Note Frog's look is distractingly busy-looking and hard on the eyes. I couldn't see myself willingly spending a lot of time in it because of that. The interface isn't XP...or even Win98. It looks closer to an early Delphi app under Windows for Workgroups, or possibly something written for a Commodore 64. At least to my tired eyes.

A pretty interface won't make a bad app into good one. But it can certainly make a very good app look like a bad app. And with all the competition in this category of product, a dev might not get a second chance if the interface is a turn-off.

Yeah, it might seem shallow, but it's a valid concern.

Valid it is... at least for me: I did not have any further look into it...

@metaroot - thanks for the comments.

Sorry for the confusion, it is my mistake ... :-[

But with adding date-time stamp, I did nót mean adding this into the body of the note, but rather as
an 'attribute' to the note, so there is a way to sort notes and/or 'browse' thru them based on date-time.

I have been using a portable trial version for a short while, but stopped using it because of the above.
Maybe the portable version is less 'complete' than the installer?

You lateron wrote
"
You can sort folder content by creation and modification (note: this feature is available in paid version).
"

Cud you possibly add a screenshot?
Or refer me to a website where I can find an example.
My google image search remained in vain, I am afraid.

By the way: I did write 2 emails to support (18/05) but have not yet rcvd a reaction.

p.s. will there be a feature to have AllMyNotes add to the context menu of various applications
incl. browsers IE/FF/Chrome.
it would go something like: select text,rightclick-> send to AllMyNotes

Thanks a lot.

Up front, I admit ... It definitely is a matter of taste, but I can't get enthousiastic about
the Notefrog layout and colors.
I am sorry.
It is a bit 'oldfashioned' XP-like.

Comparing that to AllMyNotes

Today, I checked out a number of other notes-managers that have been mentioned on this forum.
(separate post on that).

But bottomline, in spite my 'reservations' towards AllMyNotes (see other post) I think it is one of the best
and pretty straightforward and userfriendly.

=

154
I wasn't aware of sooo many 'note'-managers.
RightNote
KeyNote NF
TreeDBNotes
AllMyNotes
CintaNotes
Notezilla 8
of course OneNote

I have quickly been looking at a few.
I donot need very complex tools, OneNote and RightNote, it takes too long to get acquainted with them, too long for ME, that is.

They all have their pros and cons.

What I am looking for is something similar to the GUI of Outlook.
Meaning : left tree with folders/subfolders
Right top: the notes with caption, modified date, size, etc.
Right bottom: a preview
and all that with a minimum of clicks.

AllMyNotes looks nice, but ..
-I donot see a way to add a date-time stamp to a note
-neither can I browse based on date-time
-I am not sure if an url can automatically be added to a note

It is terribly fast in searching, regularly updated and has a forum.

Cintanote is purely text based (webpages, imagefiles, I think it is not possible)

TreeDBNotes, looks nice, but similar to RightNote has a lot of features and includes
a Passwords Organizer and a Contacts Organizer that I won't be using.

My 2cts ..

@IainB

up front - thanks for the review!
just a small tip...

1. the current release seems to be 2.6
2. on http://notefrogblog.com/ it says
"
NoteFrog V3 will be released early next year and will not support Windows XP. XP will have been deprecated by Microsoft by then. One reason for NoteFrog deprecating XP support is the improvement to the clipboard handling available since Vista. No more broken clipboard chains!
"
I have not found v3 yet, so it is still under development I suppose.

3. the link to the forum: there is nothing except 'Maintainence'

Hello - I know I am responding to an old thread (hopefully someone will read this)

Question about this software:
1)
right now it cuts by nnn characters
is it possible to make it cut back TO nnn characters instead?

For example, I want the total length of all - folder/paths etc. to be 180 characters, so whatever the length,
when cutting back length should remain 180 characters)
(a bit similar to CutLongNames.exe)

2) when cutting back a list of files, it should add a digit to avoid duplicate errors
so
files that have been cut back, should then read
longfilenamescutbackto180char_01.jpg
longfilenamescutbackto180char_02.jpg
longfilenamescutbackto180char_03.jpg

3)
is it possible to make this as a plug-in for Directory Opus (or work as a toolbar button)

4)
is it possible to add this to shell:sendto context menu.
meaning:
I would select a number of files, then select context menu "Maim The File" - and 'send' the files to Main The File so they are then cut back as per settings saved in Maim The File.

(Maim - what does this stand for?)

=

157
@skwire - am afraid there is no solution. wud it be possible to delete this thread or move it to unfinished?
many thanks.
=

158
Well, I guess there are a lot of 'tools' that are shredding/secure erasing files, most of them are free.
Lots of reviews as well. Thing that is important to me: it should be userfriendly, meaning: either a shortcut, like ctrl-w and that should call the tool and erase selected files 1 pass
Or select files/folders+context menu file erase.
Over time I have paid a LOT of time on this.

Bottomline, after quite some tests, just recently I have come to the conclusion that most the most efficient solution is to:
- use normal delete, of the Opus built in secure delete (ctrl-w with me does: dopusrt /cmd Delete NORECYCLE QUIET SECURE=1)
  (this will still display pathnames)
- then every week or two weeks, run CCleaner Drive Wipe Free Space

R-Wipe and Clean: when running WipeFree Space with that tool, it fills your harddisk entirely with a temporary file.
(e.g. you have 1TB drive, filled with 500GB, then RWC will create 500GB temporary file. This takes a tre-men-dous long time, with huge HD activity)

BCWipe does a good job, but is very very slow. It runs the entire night taking a 1TB drive, starting at 19:00 and maybe it is ready the next morning when you get up.
and ... sometimes the paths are not cleared(!)

CCleaner is doing the job in a couple of hours, pathnames/files are filled with ZZZZ's

CCleaner is a very good tool, really.
Their 'Pro' version is usd.19.95 .. on ANNUAL basis(!) which is really too much, whilst comparing with its own free tool and other free tools around.
Even when comparing with some paid software.

=

159
Below examples:

deleted testfiles from a 'test'-folder using BCWipe
(settings: wipe: MFT Records, Directory Slacks and NTFS Transactions Log File)
all 1 pass

deleted some other testfolder from a folder named 'RWC Folder'
(settings: wipe Alternate Data Streams and wipe cluster tips)
all 1 pass

=
Examples of BCWipe and R-Wipe and Clean-28042014 125439.png
=

Then run CCleaner settings:
1 pass,  wipe alternate data streams, wipe cluster tips, wipe MFT Free Space

=
CCLeaner-After Drive Wipe Free Space-28042014 125920.png
=

You see, now, folders are filled with 'ZZZ'
BCWipe, Wipe Free Space of a drive shows something like just Q:\?\

Like this

@tomos @IainB
Thanks for your comments.

I know it has a feature of secure delete. There is a small drawback though.
When running a file-recovery tool (e.g. Recuva, R-Undelete or so) using a kind 'deep scan' method,
it will display the foldername/path.
Even though the files are randomly renamed and even though they may not be recovered, the paths/foldernames
may reveal information about the possible contents of the (unrecoverable) files.
like:
file: xyttouuxblablabla.xxx
path:\ForumPasswords

=

Possibly the only solution is to run a drive "wipe free space" at regular intervals.
e.g. CCleaner fills path with ZZZ's.

So, let it rest.
=

161

In the command line you use "%1" as placeholder for the file or folder that was right clicked.  There are many examples on the web.

Okay, many thanks. will check this out.
=

162
Hang on, let me get back to you soonest.
I am investigating some other things that I am just remembering/realizing.
Reverting...  :)
=

163
Point is that in the commandline users have to define exactly what, i.e. name of files, name of folders, should be securely deleted.
Meaning that the names of files/folders are 'fixed' in advance.
Whereas my idea is to select files/folders (can be anything) and that these files/folders are 'passed on' to ccleaner to be erased.
As said, currently one has to use 3rd party tools (fileshredders) having context menu support.
Well, anyway.. it was/is a suggestion only.
=

164
I am not sure. I think the tool in the link is about adding/removing context menu items etc.
However, CCleaner has -no possibilities-  of a context menu to secure-delete files yet.
Maybe one day in future, but not right now.
i.e. it would require some programming (via autohotkey?) to accomplish this.
=

165
CCleaner is a wonderful tool with a lot of options.
One thing, regularly being asked for, is missing though.

-Select files and/or folder
-Have a context menu item to "Secure delete" the selected items.

On their site http://www.piriform....mand-line-parameters
Pirifiform does have a command:  CCleaner.exe /DELETE "path_to_file(s)" /METHOD "0-3"

On that basis, I wonder whether it would be possible to develop a CCleaner context menu/button deleting selected items.

Haven't found a solution on Internet sofar.
I think it would make quite some folks happy.
Secure Delete files/folder now requires 3rd party tools.

But then again, maybe it is not possible at all...

Nothing wrong with asking...  ;)

Clipboard Help+Spell / News about updates?
« on: April 04, 2014, 12:05 AM »

Hi there,

just out of curiosity: when will you release the next update?
I think it has been quiet since november last year or so.

Keep up the good work!

=

168
Now that is an interesting question.

Might be time to add some importing options to CHS.

But let's have that conversation in a new thread.  I've started on here: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=36599

Hi Mouser
Any developments on CHS ?
Just wonder, have you been able to tackle the export issues?
(export clips to individual text files adding date-time created)

Keep up the good work!

thanks
=

169
ClipMate is unarguably an amazing program -- only reason I even look at other things is the size and importability of CM.  It goes so far beyond the call of duty for a clipboard extender, it would probably be better referred to as a data management solution with Clip Board monitoring support ;)

ClipMate also seems to be on its last legs. No updates in quite some time. The Forum is dead – probably to fend off complaints about its lack of development. The developer has gone to earth.

Which is why I am looking for an alternative.  If Clipboard Help+Spell can handle the bits that I use, then I am on board.

But how do I transfer all those bits and pieces from ClipMate? Could take time.

-michaelkenward (November 24, 2013, 06:45 AM)

Ken, actually, what I do with CM is to export the clips to individual txt files (File-Export, tag Name file Item Title)
Use X1 on them .. :-)

The idea is that a foldername is created, named after a filename, with exception of:
date
date+time
seq.nbr+date
seq.nbr+date time
at the end of a filename.

It is almost perfect, one tiny tiny little thing.

It does not (yet) handle weird filenames like these

SubFolder-02A - AnotherFileName-01061996.jpg
SubFolder-02A - SomeFileName-01-16112012 234654.jpg
SubSomeFolder-02B - SubFolder-02B - AnotherFileName-01061996.jpg

covered by:
Rename REGEXP PATTERN "(.+)(-|\s)(\d{2}|\d{3})(-|\s)(\d{6}|\d{8}|\d{2}-\d{2}-\d{4})(-|\s)(\d{6})\.(.+)" TO \1\\\0

But that aside, all works fine.
