Screenshot Captor / Re: help with automatic file naming
« on: February 25, 2013, 12:11 PM »
I tried %quickfield% and it works well for me.  The first file in the series gets named screenshot.png.  The second, screenshot002.png, and so on.  If I delete those files or move them to another folder, we begin again with no suffix and then 002 etc.  I can live with this.  I also tried %numinc% and quickly changed to
   image%numinc%
instead, since I don't like to start with a digit, I don't know why.  This works very well, the only downside is that it gives me five digits, which is a lot, but I can live with it.

Thanks!

Screenshot Captor / how get better resolution?
« on: February 25, 2013, 08:53 AM »
I want to take a screenshot of a portion of http://www.apachefri...mpp-windows.html#641.  My ultimate goal is to include it in a wordpress page, and there the image should be 350 px wide.  Here are the choices I have thought of:

1. zoom out in the browser until I can fit the body into a 350 px wide Captor fixed frame; upload it to WordPress and insert it in full size.

2. leave the browser at 100% and make the capture at a lot more pixels.  Now I can resize the image with Captor, an editor such as irfanview or photoshop, or within the wordpress software.

What would give me good results (clear type, reasonable load time) but also give me a good workflow?

I have been saving my captures as png.

I know I've posted several questions today (sorry!), but this one is higher priority than the others.  Thanks.

Screenshot Captor / feature request: zoom buttons (+, -) - not urgent
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:59 AM »
In general, the more you can make using the software feel like other software people tend to use often, such as MS Word, foxit, firefox, and the simpler screenshot capture programs, the easier it will be for new users to start to get the hang of the Captor.  As they get comfortable, they will want to delve deeper to learn more sophisticated options.  Example: zoom.  In Word, Excel and foxit, there is a simple plus and minus at the bottom right for getting bigger and smaller.  In Captor, I need a + and a -.  They don't have to be at the bottom right.  Thank you.

Screenshot Captor / help with automatic file naming
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:30 AM »
I would like to change the folder where images get saved automatically, each time I start a new project.  And I would like shorter file names.  I do like not having to think about the file name each time I make a screenshot, though.  I would not mind thinking for the first filename in the sequence, if that would help.

For uploading the images to wordpress, it would be easiest if the filenames in the group were numbered in sequence.  It's okay if some numbers get skipped (due to me removing some images that didn't come out well).

Is it possible to name the screenshots based on the name of the folder I specified the files should be saved to?

Example.  A tutorial about installing WordPress.  I will name the folder wp-tut, and it would be lovely if the files were called wp-tut1, wp-tut2, etc.  However, wp-tut001 and wp-tut002 would be okay too.  Note that occasionally I will have double digits, but never triple.

Thanks!

Screenshot Captor / fancy border question, not urgent

Screenshot Captor / Re: having trouble with undo
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:18 AM »
So far I don't see a huge difference in Undo with the Beta, but my skills have improved.  The key seems to be "object select mode," which is a toggle.  When you're in select mode, you can select an arrow, circle, whatever, and kill it with the delete key.  I'm working on remembering to toggle out of select mode.

Thanks for responding, mouser.  I will try the beta.  Turns out my mouse problems had nothing to do with the captor.  When I switched from the optical mouse (which was behaving in some slightly different funny ways with some other software) to the corded mouse, the crop worked as expected.

General Software Discussion / forum password suggestion
« on: February 24, 2013, 07:22 AM »
The password has to have eight characters.  If I forget that, and type in my current favorite seven-digit password, it would be nice to get a message reminding me what the password rules for this forum are.

Also, new subscribers should be shown a suggestion to set a magic question.  I didn't find out about that feature until I was at the point of resetting my password.

Finally, please set "hide email address" as the default.

Thanks.

Screenshot Captor / having trouble with undo
« on: February 24, 2013, 07:16 AM »
Running Captor 3.08.01.

I did crop and then tried to add an arrow.  It didn't come out right, so I did ctl z (undo).  The thing that got undone was the crop.  How do I undo the arrow?

Alternatively, how do I delete the arrow object?

Or, how do I discard all my changes?  (I don't mind re-cropping if I have to.)

I tried selecting the original file from the panel of thumbnails of screenshot files, over on the left, but that just opens the file with irfanview.

By the way, about the crop tool: First I selected the part of the image I wanted to keep, then hit the crop icon.  The crop occurred, but I got an error message telling me to select a region before cropping.  What bothers me most about that is the "bing" noise.  (For now, I muted my sound.)

Thank you!

Screenshot Captor / Re: can't set hotkey to ctl e
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:43 AM »
Thanks, I look forward to that.  I chose ctl e carefully because it didn't interfere with anything else I was doing, and it was working great for me.  Thanks for responding!

Screenshot Captor / can't set hotkey to ctl e
« on: February 20, 2013, 10:10 AM »
I used to use jet screenshot, but switched to screenshot captor because I can easily make it put a thin black border around all my screen captures (yay!).  In jet screenshot I had specified ctl e as the hotkey to capture a region, but in screenshot captor I can't.  When I try to type in ctl e next to Capture selected region, in the preferences, a dialogue box pops up called "Save copy of image as."

I would prefer to use ctl e because my fingers are already trained to do that.

Thank you.
