I happened to see your post and while I cannot help you with the program you are using, I can offer what I think is one of the best stand-alone Hot-Key programs I have ever used.  It is hard to find as well but Free and has no ad-ware or other troublemakers.

Click this link HERE to get to Clavier+

I have used it for several years and it can be used with or without other applications to create a huge selection of Hot Keys.  Also works fine on Windows 8.1 x64

I wish a doman was an option 40HZ but I can only work with what I have.  I have requested fubndng to provide a Domain layout for many years and never got it.
It is only a headache for me to keep asking as I have already been told not to ask.  That is one reason we are on Server 2008 and not 2012 and if I had not sneaked it into a budget we would still be on Server 2003.

4WD, I 100% agree with you and have done exactly what you suggest as this was the only option offered by the new NetGear NightHawk R8000 router.  Open VPN worked so well I was amazed.  I should have known it was too good to be true.  There was a "catch" though that was not mentioned or stated in the setup anywhere untili searched for the problem.  On the HELP boards on Netgear's site, I was informed of the following:

Question: What is the maximum number of concurrent clients that can connect to the VPN service?
Netgear's Answer:  It supports a maximum of up to 4 concurrent VPN clients.

If there is any way to increase this to 15 I would be jumping at the chance but so far I can't seem to ask the right question.  No one I can find seems to understand.  I guess most people are happy with only 4 users.?

Windows 8.1 (Native VPN) is so convoluted that  all  can find about it is PROBLEMS>  I Googled it for many pages.  Windows' motto seems to be "For every Solution, there is another problem".

I have tried every thing I can think of  OpenVPN worked perfect.  But, nothing else seems to and I can only get 4 I guess unless I buy another router?

Those are the specs I have to work with and so far I can't seem to find a way to make this reliable without going to third party software such as Open VPN.  Not even sure about that
The intent is to manage to host the internal company files in the internal company network (which is not a problem at all) and provide a way to access those same files to the same3 people when they are not in the office.  As from home or a Hotel Wi-Fi.

Before Windows 8.1, this was a fairly simple task to provide a reliable VPN connection.  Since 8.1 it seems to have been relegated to the pages of history in favor of cloud storage for to provide the same access.
Unfortunately, this is not yet a reliable resource due to constraints on the speed of transfer of the internet.
When OneDrive first began offering the 1TB of storage per user, I had high hopes for it but it seems they are less likely to be a reality in the near future every day.  The space is there but access to it is nowhere near what we need.  "
Back in the day" this was a simple thing on Server 2003 and Windows XP.  Each new progression by Windows has made that same access slower and more difficult as it went forward
Any advice on the best way to accomplish this on a small scale would be appreciated.  This is not a "Domain" network, simply a need to share file access by about 30 people regardless of whether they are on-site or working from home or on the road.

This is or should be a simple task and maybe Nitro or even Adobe reader could do it.  Once upon a time, I ran across a very neat program that could take a folder full of pdfs and in short order create a "Flah" type "Flipping Book".  Nothin gto fancy but it was impressive at the time.
The actual NEED is to simply have a way to maintain the directory structure the files are stored in. This is the correct order for what is needed and preorganized to present an electronic version o9f the files in a directory organized like the printed notebook would have been.  The "Flipping book" would have been a nifty addition that the user could copy to a few flash drives to hand out at a meeting if necessary to allow each person to "flip" though their copy at the pace they wanted to.
The need for this though is to allow the Users here to have a way to actually print out a pre-organized "notebook" of sorts to carry with them on a business trip .
There have been enough times when the lack of an internet connection or failure of their laptop of some other reason left them high and dry when their only copy to present is on their website if it cannot be accessed.

To resolve this, i only needed tobe able to print out the pre-organized folder and sub folders that contain the files in the order in which they are stored.  It sounded easy enough until tried it.
I may be trying too hard but I have access to the actual web-server so the files do not require downloading for me to do something like this.  While I would like to offer the electronic version of "the book" the programs i tested for doing this took an extremely long time and so far i have not gotten any output that i could use, although i admit i have not tried that many nor for that long.

I thought i would get some opinions if anyone else has ever tried to print out a "booklet" or "notebook" in the same format as the files are stored on the harddrive.  They are all just PDF files in organized sub folders.  It seems ther should be a simple enough utility that could be set to print all pdf's in the folder and sub folders while putting in a separator sheet labelled with the name of the sub folders as they change.
If anyone knows of one that would do this I would be more than happy to purchase it.  The one very high-tech version i was hopeful for had just about every feature in the world and would probably need me to run every print job.  The program was full of features but required tech support from China and their time is a bit off from the time i normally work.
This is something i need to keep simple enough to allow the Users who own the files to connect through the server to print them out in the office.  The Old Flash/Html-pdf  Flipping book program i don't remember as being that hard but so far I cannot find the one from 3 years back.

For most of these people i need something not much more complicated than "Print"  :)  All ideas appreciate.  I have a copy of Nitro pdf and one of Adobe Pdf from about a year back (ver 12 maybe) if there is a procedure in either to handle things like this.

Thanks

Yep.   In a round about (and direct as well) way this was the problem.  This who9le setup was written or rather patched together by a group of people from various locations over  long amounbt of time.
Each one brought their own unique view on things as well as several ini files which left me ponering who had the controls at the time of the "mis" time. I finally found it (al;ong with several others all set to various world/wide timezones.  I have just never dealt with one where there wasn't a single over-all php.ini (There was one or two of those too) plus a few others.

I finally found the key to beating them all which was to use .htaccess since each module had its own copy, i was able to add the correct code to each that made the PHP stamp end up in the correct international timezone regardless of who wrote what.  This is NOT your normal DB software for sure.  Looked like a combined effort of everyone in the EU.  Plus the program that provides the MySql and the PhP and Apache modules also tries to provide the proper starting time based on UTC.

I just had to stop doing anything else to focus on tracking a single entry from satrt to display.    I originally thought it to be simplay a display artifact since if i downloaded the file it nevber had the incorrect dae or time.  But it actually turhd out that by doing a dump from the MySQ:L tables they really were being input at 12:30 min ahead.  However, if accessed through MySql and downloaded back to the place of origin, the reverse time swing put the correct ime back in due to the reverse order of actions.

The files really had the incorrect time stamp as long as they were inside the DB.  I had ben looking at the display section which was the wrong place to look.  Afetr creating a new setupand adding a few files then pulling a full dump fr4om MySQL it was easy to see that inside the DB they were 12:30 ahead.  Turned out that particular module contained inside a modified script that was done by a programmer in the New Delhi TZ which is UTC+5:30.  I am UTC-6.  A total of exactly 11:30 and forward across the dateline.

The SQL dump is how i finally fund which one did the deed due to the exact 11:30 (I originally thought it to be 12:00 hours even).  There are not many places at UTC-5:30 so...
I have to say that I learned a lot from the experience.  And to give Shaed his Due   I 100% agree that this is sloppy control.  But the place i work for is well known for not shopping for software at the equivalent of the Doillar Store of Software!  :)  Lots of fun.  N OT!

[Date]

date.timezone = "UTC"

This I have located in the PHP.ini but cannot find a  corresponding in MY.ini and the program looks to me as though it is looking to MySql for these timestamps, not to the php software.

Thanks for all the help here this is not something i have ever tried to troubleshoot before,  But I guarantee I will never forget!

307
mysql> SET GLOBAL time_zone = timezone;

OK i am getting in over my head now.  I have seen enough of this to be pretty darned sure hat the problem is the global timezone used in Mysql.  But the statement I see to set this don't look the exactly the same format as those in the my.ini. (which i finally located) Nor do I see the specific location line number where this should go

308
You are a good man Stoic :) :-*

I guess great minds think alike but i wish i had read tyour post sooner as it might have saved me looking.  But technically I needed to look in order to be able to trace the results if i make changes anyway.
Any knowledge gained is never wasted.
I just cant find the place to edit in my.ini to set anything but i have found many references to it being there.  This is MySql V5.1 too.

309
You may well be right.  I had o find a lot of tools i have not used in years like wingrep etc but I have found references that lead me to believe this may be something that has always been like this  since the beginning due to something in the my.ini file.

$row["created"] = FormatDateTimeStamp(inputMySQLTimestamp($row["created"]), DT_MID_DATETIME);

310
It isn't a time zone thing and the systems are synced 100% correctly to the  Time.Windows   clock. (though i have tried the US nationals to nothing helps)
The files even display the correct time on my local screen when I look at them in the folder on the harddrive.  But when they display in a browser they have suddenly time-shifted by 12 hours into tomorrow.  It almost has to be something to do with the software that puts the directory display on the web but I can't find any place I can see this happen.
something in Apache, Java, Php, MySql  whatever it is, it isn't "really" changing anything it just adds 12 hours so that the date change happens at 12 noon instead of 12 midnight.  That is about as clear as I can put it because I cannot prove it other than with a screen shot of the website.  The real files that are displayed from here on the server are showing the right date and time both of when they were created as well as when they were edited or modified or any other stamps.
This has to be some kind of artifact of the web-displaying software since it is only a displayed time that is incorrect.  the real time for everything is what it should be.  But the effect is exactly 12 hours of added time to whatever the real time stamp is.

Hey 4wd!  Do me a BIG favor and tell me what the heck is going on from my other posting as that is a serious bug that a whole bunch of people here are trying to figure out.  If I was to make a wild guess I would say it is a "practical joke" virus loaded into Java but the issue is getting hot and i seriously have no idea how it could be happening.

Thanks for the sort routine .  I will try it as soon as I can get this "12 hours in the future" Mal-ware or whatever it is figured out.
This re: the posting for the "website time issue" someone brought up today.  My final post I think only Shades has posted an opinion  Unfortunately he isn't quite getting the question and i know it is because somehow I am not stating it right.    It isn't a time zone thing and the systems are synced 100% correctly tot he Time.Windows clock.  The files even display the correct time on my local screen when i look at them in the folder.  But when they display in a browser they have suddenly time-shifted by 12 hours into tomorrow.  It almost has to be something to do with the software that puts the directory display on the web but I can;t find any place I can see this happen.

Add a little extra to the Mix.
If i upload a document created on the 20th, it shows that it has a date of the 22nd already.  If i DOWNLOAD that same document back to the web-server, it shows the 21st which is correct.  The only time it LOOKS wrong is when it is viewed through a browser on the website.

313
Yes, the time is perfect
the website is set to display the time of the system it is logged in on and if i am on the web server and connect to the site i see the exact same date and time that the server says it is.
Moreover, if i look in the directory holding the files and folders they also show the correct date and time.  The ONLY place i can go to see this effect is to connect to the website.  On it, the date will show tomorrow.  It does not display the time but I have run tests to prove this happens at the noon/midnight mark so it is the am/pm issue causing it.

Another odd thing is that on the website server using Internet explorer 11 i cannot even post on this site as i get constant script errors.  Using Maxthon, I am able to work fine.  I presume Firefox and Chrome would work also but have not tried,
This leads me to believe that in some way possibly JAVA is the culprit?
I am fairly sure that it isn't actually the browser at fault since the same "wrong" date shows even using safari on an Apple.

Thee fact that yesterday this (as far as anyone knows) was not an issue is all I can say.  Of course, it COULD be that no one notice until today because normally the date associated with a file or folder is not relevant

314
I have a problem that just started today where it seems that everyone who uploads files or creates a folder on a website gets the time changed by 12 hours which results in the DATE being off for anything done in the afternoon showing the date as being the following date. Files loaded at 11 am on the 21st show a date of the 22nd.

Changing the system date on the server only results in the same "effect", with the date being changed by 12 hours regardless.

SYSTEM INFO:
Windows 7
Apachi Server
MySQL
All updates for Windows are current
Avast!
Malwarebytes

Does anybody have any idea what might cause this?

Let me add to this that even accessing this site, I am getting scripting errors, and wonder if java could be involved.

315
Is there a script of utility to do this easily?
I have a text list of 100 directories I need to alphabetically sort them all by the value in the 3rd level subfolder only

316
Sorry.  My mistake.  When I originally posted this to MS tech-net, I had more wording in the subject but it got chopped of here so I had to reword.  This is all specific to Desktop Version of Outlook 2013 using MS exchange server.

The OST file definitely would contain the attached documents but if they were "copied" to a drive letter which is representing a Cloud Drive they actually go into an upload queue in a cached folder in your hidden folder named "ProgramData".  If there are any errors during transmission of the document to the cloud storage, normally, the client program would attempt to retry uploading the file from the original source.  If this original source is no longer present (ie: you closed that email) then it would have nothing to compare with.
Then depending on how your software is configured and what the error was, it may try a few more times before giving up and the file disappears until you open the email to try again.

Whether or not this is how it SHOULD operate is what I am trying to determine as this is in fact what happens in cases like this.

317
This is a question which involves a problem that to me is something I would never do anyway.  But I need to find documentation that says why even though I am pretty sure I know why it should NOT be done.
In cases where people are getting emails containing files that ware sometimes WORD docs sent through Word but sometimes Docs sent as ZIP files or PDF sent as Zip files.  There are a few people here who insist that they should be able to simply drag these out and drop them directly to a mapped CLOUD storage. folder
with No local copy, no saved to local drive.  This includes the possibility of it being a Zipped file that they open the zip while it is still in the email and then copy the contents to the cloud drive.

To my way of thinking, the problem is that sometimes it DOES work!

I have always been told that anything you are storing on a cloud storage, especially one that is a shared resource for others, anything you put there should be something you first saved to your own local system.  For one thing there is a better chance that any Viruses or malware packed into the attachment would be caught before they end up in a folder on a Cloud shared by many people who are trusting that anything put there is "clean".

But for another, since saving files to a Cloud drive requires time to upload, if you drag and drop something then close the email (or even save to: Cloud drive then close the email) I can see a lot of places where that file may not ever get uploaded and this is the situation I am trying to explain.  But I must be asking Googgle the wrong question because I cannot get a clear set of replies.

Can anyone here offer anything to this?

318
Perfect!  And many thanks for the replies.

Another day, another Wild Goose Chase.

Today I was asked to create the above from a folder containing about 50,000 files.  Many of those files are probably duplicates but I cannot just delete them even when I find them as they are the resource pool for a DB.  I just need to find out how many of them are actually in there twice or even three or four times and create a list showing the paths to all of them.

Someone else (TG!)  not me .. is going to have to figure out which ones to keep and which not.

But I have to create this list showing the full path to all the files that exist in more than one location but are really duplicates.
In the Best of Worlds, this would be done using a hash of the document and not just the filename because it is entirely possible, even likely, that the same file was entered by two different people at different places.  Yet that file would still be a duplicate meaning that the BB links should show a single location for both entries instead of having the file in there twice.

I have been testing a few duplicate finders but most of them are a bit over zealous and want to help get rid of the problem.  In this one case, I only need to create a file showing the path listings to all the duplicates but Do Nothing.  Just make the list.
I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of a particular tool to use for that.  Hopefully something you have used before for a similar task?

320
Thanksto both of you.  Two is a good start.  I expected 4WD to throw in something, he usually comes up with a script to do anything.  Most work!  :)  Just kidding 4WD your Help has always been some of the best.  I am going to check out Growl and Rainmeter.
I hope you can see what I mean by my question though.  There are any number of Important issues that are totally ignore by people where I work becasue they dont know that if the tiny icon in the taskbar has a yellow exclamation mark it means to >>> HEY!@!!LOOK AT ME <<< as I have something IMPORTANT to tell you.  Many updates and errors and all kinds of things go ignored for so long that by the time I get involved it is a total catastrophe.  When I point this out, they always say they just didn't know.  And it is TRUE.  Even AVAST and MBAM will barely 'Bleep'  if they need updates and the ones they do pop out, people are usually busy and minimize and once that is done they don't come back

Shame I didn't think of this in time for the 2015 NANY lists  maybe someone would have written it as it seems a perfect Need with no solution that could be used by many people.
It seems that something could  be done with one of the programming tools similar to AHK since all it needs is a way to match a given condition to the displaying of a matching message.

Another minor point, Is there anything I can add that will allow me to create preset error corrections on this site?  Like in Outlook, where (as a bad typist) I am always hitting the same wrong keys when typing a word, i could tell the spell-check that any time i enter "speel"  it would get corrected to "spell" and achieve auto-correct for Forum entries?   Not to mention the ubiquitous single character "i" that I always MEANT to put "I"  Took me a while to even train OUTLOOK on that one

321
If this utility does not exists it should.  I have searched through google for the pst hour or so asking the question every way I could think of an keep batt8ing zero.
I would like a way to create the exact same temporary popup with sound and everything exactly like the one used by outlook for incoming emails and be able to position it where I want on the screen with whatever sound and color and message is appropriate. Then use it to notify me of any number of important occurrences which are currently only displayed by tiny changes in taskbar icons.
Some utilities I know do come with their own.  Those for temperature warnings and such IF you have the software that uses it.
Isn't there some generic utility or at least a way to control the one used by Outlook to make similar notifications based on a wider ranges of subjects?
If Program X is in condition Y then display notice Z on screen:for n number of seconds.  That kind of thing.
The outlook utility itself, if it could be modifies would be a perfect example of How To proceed.  But it seems to be Only For Outlook.

I decided to "cast a wider net" as someone here always has the answers to anything  :)

Typical MS.  I have also been looking everywhere for a way to embed a hyper-link into that same image.  This is all part of an automated procedure that AI have managed somehow to get all the way down the final; part and I'm stuck :(
Once the images in IN an ACTIVE email  (yhe key being active as i cannot do it to one i am reading) but if I am composing, I can paste the image in from paint and THEN embed the hyper-link to the website that the image represents by simply right click, add hyper-link.
SO where does the hyper-link "hide"?  I can even copy and paste it from a received email with the embedded outlook attached into another email or onto a word doc etc.  So the controls must be somewhere in WORD as I know MS has always used Word's setup and controls inside Outlook.  I just can't find it.
Adding Open with Paint to the right click menu (or even activating the already there button to edit image) seems so insane to not have a way to use it.
I have read somewhere that there MAY be a link to permissions.  I could be wrong but i THINK I say a mention about running Outlook as admin?  And/or making changes to the registry to enable admin privileges.  It was so arcane that I left it alone for now.  Why would they do that?  It could be that the only way to accomplish this is using HTML as in a website which is what this is.  A link to a website

Oh Well. another problem for another day.  Thanks for the input, now I dont feel so bad. :(

323
If an email contains an embedded graphic, I can right click it but "edit picture" is grayed out.  I would like that to be associated with Paint.exe.  This is not an attached graphic but is embedded in the email itself.  I can copy it and paste into paint but one click to edit in paint would be the right way.  Is there any way to get that edit button to work?  If not, is there a way to add my own?  In trying a few suggestions of changes to the registry, I did end up making changes to the right click menu but it was not what I wanted and still does not give any way to link Open with Paint.exe to the menu.
Further reading shows a lot of ways to do a lot of things but I cannot find one that will simply enable the button that is already there.

MasterSeeker 1.2!  THAT is exactly what I needed!
WOW  I found my own answer almost immediately right here on DC!

BEST Place to find the answers to Anything!

Holy Moly DxCK!  I had forgotten about this and found it again by Accident. I JUST posted a need fore this EXACT trype of program. Nothing else I found would give me this exact type of readout.  PERFECT!  Many Thanks and it works Great right out of the "Box" :-*
