Any web designers out there have opinions about limits, pros and cons of using vector graphics when designing
webpages.I just stumbled upon Inkscape and the file sizes it creates are amazing. But amazing is not that amazing
if it's not universally accepted.

Nice little article i stumbled upon,i believe we've all seen forums that have lay dead after a hand full of post.

« on: December 02, 2005, 11:00 PM »
Is there a way, application, out there that can reformat an iPod without that gigantic ipod updater software?

P.S.
Will never buy an ipod again, all the software applications needed are way too cumbersome.
Yeah i got the winamp plugin, yeah you can get the foobar2000 foopod or whatever, but man, shell out 300+ bucks
for a gadget,should be better.Thats my rant.

General Software Discussion / Strange sites in my registry
« on: November 22, 2005, 07:11 PM »
I practice good computer hygene,anti-virus,anti-malware,reg cleaners,and anti-spyware.
I was going through my registry last night and found this list of sites from casinos to porn.
Could this be a preconfigured list of no-no's from a security app i have installed or could
something funky be going on?

I have spybot and adaware for anti-spyware,f-prot for anti-virus,Outpost Pro for firewall and Boclean for malware.

Like i say i'm not for censorship but you would figure google would have some sort of language filter for it's news page.I found this on the front page of google's news this morning...

106
I seen this over on digg.Pretty hokey i know but it's true, windows will not allow you to create a text file name
con.txt :o

Not Van Zant's fault obviously, but hopefully consumer backlash will dictate this out of control DRM crap.

I've been a long time user of Aheads software,Nero, but i'm starting to grow weary,no hatred,no disrespect towards
their product, just feeling a little experimental about looking for a replacement.Anyone out there know of a good
replacement.Something that can burn cd's and dvd's and dual layer dvd's,just got a dvd burner with dual layer
compatibilty and need something that can match wits with Nero.

Thank you.

I got all my hardware upgrade fix'ns today and going through with a fresh install. After a fresh install i start modifying
the OS(XP PRo) emediatly, menu's,updates, and crap i don't need or things that have been deamed security hazards,
i.e. Microsoft Virtual Machine.Microsoft actually released a tool to do this, which looks like they pulled, which concerns
me but i've checked Sun's Java site    http://www.java.com/...p/uninstall_msvm.xml and was planning
on using this method.

I guess what i'm asking, has anyone does this and are their any drawbacks?

Lord knows i can't spell worth a crap but if your in the business of selling memory and use the word memory in
your tag line you should spell it correctly.

Getting ready to install a large hard drive, and i want to expand my knowledge beyond windows but in the
same breathe need something that wouldn't be to much of a learning curve from the windows environment.
I plan on a distro i can purchase, don't want to download anymore and something under 100 bucks.
I've used various live distros in the past (let me tell downloading 300mb iso's on dialup that averages 44k is fun!)

I remember buying a version of Mandrake a few years back and it didn't recognize hardly any of my hardware.
Do commercial linux distro's,Mandrake, redhat, recognize hardware better these days,i.e.Radeon 9600 graphics
card,LITEON CD and DVD drives,etc.

 Thank you.

Living Room / What did your first computer's hardware consist of ?
« on: October 15, 2005, 11:51 AM »
Since i was going to crack open my computer for a DVD Burner install  i've decided to replace the hard drive
as well, going for 320 gig  :) This caused me to flash back to my first PC,back in 95 which was a Packard Bell,
66 mhz Pentium 1; 16 mb of RAM;2X Speed cdrom drive;and a hard drive that was 540 Megabytes! at i
believe  4200 RPM,might of been 5400 RPM,none the less noisy as hell,oh yeah let's not forget the 14.4 modem.

My mother purchased this for me for a little over $2000,which was a rip off even back then but she
wanted to surprise me and didn't know better. She bought it in monthly  payments through a catalog company,
fingerhut, who are still around but as since been taken to court for fraudulent interest practices.

First off i'm a legit owner of Windows Xp Pro.A few weeks ago i was forced to activivate (genuine advantage crap) my PC.I just bought a new internal DVD burner and have messed around with a lot of software over the past year and even though i got a grip of registry cleaners and i comb through my registry with regedit i want a nice fresh start.
In short has anyone out there run into problems doing a second activivation,i got my key and all that good stuff.

Little rant,i hate online activation schemes.Google earth plus gave me a pop up saying it had been installed too many
times,i resolved it with a simple email. The software wasn't installed too many time it's just when i upgrade, well,i don't upgrade, i rip the old version completely out of my system and install the brand spankin new one.I'm worried
about my Divx Pro doing this as well.

Don't mean to be all "farkish" or  "diggish" with my thread label but i found this interesting.

http://www.eweek.com...,1895,1869798,00.asp

I think this is good for the consumer.I feel sometimes information is restricted from some cause of the
media format selected and this will hopefully solve some issues.I wish hardware manufacturers would
follow suite.

When ripping windows media streams you'll usually find once you start playing them you can't fast forward them
or move within the file this application solves this,it's not freeware, but it's cheap, like 8 bucks and it works like a
charm for me and it's a good tool for all you stream rippers out there. ;)

Living Room / Anyone ever get Lasik eye surgery
« on: September 03, 2005, 10:03 AM »

I got that laser eye surgery over a month ago and have to say it's very freakin cool.
Speaking from a perspective of someone who was totally dependant on glassess
I highly recommend it.It cost about a grand, put it on the card.I still find myself going
to push up glassess that aren't there :)The first thing before bed, take glassess
off,the first thing when i woke up,put glassess on,for a good 15 years or so.
Just thought i'd share for anyone thinking of having it done.

Strange tidbit,in the waiting room they were showing a bootleg of Batman Begins(on DVD!)

General Software Discussion / Rostrum Camera

Freeware-
http://www.price-med...n.co.uk/rostrum.html

If you ever caught a documentary(usually where it's used)and seen them pan
accross a still image, well this software does that and allows you to save it
to an avi,a bit tricky at first but a pretty cool little app.Poke around the whole
webpage, the creator has couple of other nice applications pertaining to
webpage development,etc.

assniffer -(sorry that's what it's called) an auto saving sniffer for windows and linux

http://www.cockos.com/assniffer/
From the guy who apparently started Winamp and nullsoft,i don't know the whole story,anyway...
It requires WinPCap.I dig it,leave it running and it will cache everthing transfered through your computer,
very useful for using Firefox since the cache is all (encrypted?)or something, anyone know how to
read Firefox's cache let me know, any how...
Quote for website...

assniffer can monitor (using winpcap or pcap) a network, and for every HTTP
transfer it sees, save a copy of the transferred data.
This is less for sinister uses, and more for taking advantage of the
already-transferred data that your computer may be exposed to.
Windows users should first download and install winpcap.
Linux users should install libpcap, and tools to enable compiling.

Living Room / emulating xdrives skip download plugin
« on: August 15, 2005, 01:12 AM »
I'm trying out xdrives 15 day offer, and only reason being is the skip download plugin. The plugin, which is only availible for internet explorer allows you to right click on a link(mp3.,rar.,zip,etc.)and upload it to your online
storage drive. This probably doesn't make sense to those with high speed internet, but with 56k,that averages
about 44k it's kind of neat, espesially with rapide share, large files, and what not.Anyway i have my own site,
and was wondering if there is anyway to emulate this.Say have an open ( open anonymous ftp type setup)
with an app or plugin that would "swoop" the file off the web and onto my webserver.

Just an idea,i don't see myself sticking with xdrive,10 bucks a month for 5 gig of storage and transfer when you
already have web space seems a waste. :(
