How about a plugin to work with "Remember the Milk":
http://www.remembert...lk.com/services/api/

It's a web service that lets you set up reminders to yourself that will be emailed or sms'd to you, etc.

Similar: http://iwantsandy.com/
I'll be the first to request this?!

I'm an avid user of RTM.
I wonder how many other DonationCoders use this amazing web-tool?

Finished Programs / Re: Screensaver On/Off/Auto
« on: June 06, 2008, 11:25 AM »
SWEEET!

I was looking for a screensaver automatic thingie that would launch the screensaver when I moved my mouse cursor to a corner of my screen.
I went looking and looking, didn't find a thing! Then came upon this thread, downloaded Skrommels RunScreenSaver?

The plan, see?, was to launch it from within FARR ... hahaha, I didn't know that FARR would launch the default screensaver with no added 'anything'!

So, thanks Skrommel for some excellent software!
And, thanks Mouser for FARR! haha, I didn't know I could just launch farr and type: SCREEN :)

78
For even quicker access;

assign a keyword to the bookmarklet, for example: keyword = Q.
in Firefox, hit Alt+D (to place the insertion point in the address bar)
hit 'Q' + Enter, and away you go!

79
Getting back to the original intent of this thread: registry hack needed.

I'm interested in this too. I also have TClock running, but would rather be more of a 'minimalist' and just NOT have an application.
:)

Post New Requests Here / Re: Hide menu in Start Menu
« on: May 27, 2008, 11:57 PM »
You could try editing it by hand?!

It is very easy too, under XP just navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

I prefer to organize my favorite/needed applications by their shortcuts using Quick Launch
C:\Documents and Settings\***USERNAME***HERE***\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

5. people who treat ADHD as an excuse for their/someones behavior, and state they/someone has the condition based on their ill-educated perspective.

Please tell me you are not one of those people who thinks this is not a real disorder?
OH NO!
Quite the contrary!

I've been properly diagnosed! After seeing 3 Psychologists, they finally got it right! I am currently on 60mg daily Straterra and a high regime of note taking, Zen-like GTD and following my ADD Coach/Wife.

I mean I don't like hearing people just throw the word around, like it's just easier to say OH I HAVE ADHD -or- <THIS PERSON> MUST BE ADHD, just because the person is forgetful, or inattentive, or lazy, etc.
It's a word that nowadays gets thrown around alot, very easily so too!
Just like OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), which a close friend of mine has. She is taking her meds, and copes with her 'disorder' with the help of her spouse.

Society has become quick to slap a label on something or someone. It sucks.

5. people who treat ADHD as an excuse for their/someones behavior, and state they/someone has the condition based on their ill-educated perspective.

Please tell me you are not one of those people who thinks this is not a real disorder?
There's a difference between suffering from a disorder, and hiding behind a disorder and excusing everything and yourself because of it.. and behaving like a total jerk. Using an illness/disorder as a bad excuse for being ill-mannered is pretty unfair to the people that really suffer and try to cope with it.
In all fairness, some of us don't suffer! We cope with it just as you or anyone else copes with a bad hair day (lame example perhaps!).
Of course I speak for myself and a few others whom I know with ADHD, and anyone who KNOWS someone with a severe disorder knows how terrible it can makes ones life.
I try my best to not let this ruin my life or make things difficult for me. I takes notes when asking directions, I write things on the back of my hand, I carry a pocket notebook and pen, I leave myself voice notes, I have daily SMS reminders to take my meds, take our the trash wash the dishes. I even have a daily SMS reminder to change the babys diaper.
I cope as best I can.
So when someone takes light of this disorder, it really bothers me.

http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/

although wading through their archives is a nightmare.

search around? i'd bet there are some loyal users and fan based sites/forums/blogs, etc.

example: i just bought the T-Mobile Shadow, and somehow found this site: http://www.allshadow.com/

good luck!

I've recently moved to a new host for my site.
They require SFTP, which is not a problem, as FileZilla supports this.
My preferred text editor, Notepad++, can only connect via FTP.

Does anyone know of a work around to get Notepad++ to connect via SFTP?
Or another grreat editor that does?!

This annoys me to no end:

1. going shopping and witnessing lazy-shoppers leaving their shopping cart by their car, instead of taking them to the designated cart-corral in the parking lot.
2. software sites that dont offer screenshots of their products.
3. aggressive product fan-boiz (Apple, Ford, etc.)
4. messy people.
5. people who treat ADHD as an excuse for their/someones behavior, and state they/someone has the condition based on their ill-educated perspective.

You mentioned DOpus above, so I'll assume you have it.

The easy way:

:)
THanks for that info.
I tried that too. That will work well for further organizing of my files.
Might even eliminate my file renamer that I downloaded from JoeJoe software!

Q10 is amazing!
Just started using it tonight.
Coping with ADHD and using this utility makes it sooo much easier to write my blog articles. hahaha. weird, huh?

Now I have another tool to add to my GTD arsenal.

It runs better than the preinstalled McCrapAfee.

So far, I'm sticking to using JoeJoes Renamer for everyday usage. It works well with my methods of categorizing my photos.

But now, I've got a new dilemma: my camera outputs video files as *.mov
And as pointed out by my original post, the file names are all wonky. Is there any way to batch rename all based on creation date? There is no exif type data on these.

*AMEND TO ABOVE*

After a ONE MINUTE SEARCH, hahaha, silly me, right?
I went to LifeHacker and found this article Namexif Batch Renames Digital Photos by Date

But as always, I read the comments and came across:  JoeJoe's freeware utilities, Rename Master.
It worked like a charm.

I didn't want JUST a renamer for EXIF data, but an all-around EVERYthing renamer, and this fits the ticket!
:)

"Dup Detector finds duplicate and near duplicate images by opening and reading image pixel data. Large collections and large image file sizes can slow Dup Detector but it works well running in the background. Large image collections often are filled with duplicate images under different names. Use Dup Detector to clean them. DupDetector reads 9 image file types from a folder or its subfolders or from an image list."
THANKS ALL!

This is the one I chose to use for my needs.
I really liked how it displays the 'suspected duplicate' next to the original.

Now I just need to find a method to RENAME all my files by the creation date. Something that reads the EXIF data?
I hate DOpus, if anyone knows how. I use DOpus as a newbie, haha, I know it has super powerful features. I'm reading up on it right now, see if that's something it can do for me.

General Software Discussion / photo duplicate scanner
« on: January 14, 2008, 11:46 AM »
Between my wife and I, we take lots of pics using our nice little point-n-shoot Panasonic Lumix.
Living in a new city, new friends, many new sites to see, and a new baby girl (5 months). So about once a week we transfer all our photos and many .MOV files from our SD cards to our desktop.

Usually, files would retain the cameras default naming system. EX: P1010368.jpg, or P1000952.mov.
But for the past few weeks, my naming system is messed up. Now I have dozens, if not hundreds of hi-res photos that are duplicates (average size of 2-3MB per photo).

I'm not sure if this is something caused by my constant app install/uninstalls or not, but I think it can be solved.
Rather than manually scan through my photos, I recall having seen or heard of an application that does it automagically? and removes/moves/renames/copies duplicate photos?

If there is an app like this, what are its features?!
hhmm ... I just came from this thread. But it didn't offer anything I need.

... Mainly for simplicity and ease of use by someone who's more of a mouse person than a keyboard person ...
I don't mean to sound mean/rude but ...

I imagine someone wanting to make a note. They have their hands at their keyboard, then take a hand off the keyboard to grab their mouse, position the mouse at X,Y area on screen, and right-click, move down, select, click, and resume typing with their hands BACK at the keyboard.

Now I imagine someone wanting to make a note. They have their hands at their keyboard, and just as swift as the type normally, hit a key combination to create a new note, and resume typing.

:(
I don't get it.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Resident random filename generator
« on: January 14, 2008, 01:05 AM »
My Methods:

1) I create a new graphic.
2) I choose File|Save and call it MyFile1.ext
3) I choose File|New and create a brand new grphic.
4) I choose File|Save and the save dialog is already populated with MyFile1.ext.
5) I append an incrementing number sequence to my files (MyFile-001.ext, MyFile-002.ext, MyFile-003.ext ... )

What's wrong with that?
I think THAT is farr easier than ...
... hitting blindly the keyboard to get filenames like qweuriquerqwer.jpg
or asjdajsdjhasgdhjgasd.jpg ...

I've been doing this for many years.
A logo revision would start with this:
logo_.png <~ the _underscore_ denotes an original Fireworks file
logo.gif denotes an exported file
A few revisions later, I'll have:
logo_080112.png <~ original logo Fireworks file modified on Jan.12,2008
logo_080112-2.png <~ original logo Fireworks file modified on Jan.14,2008 revised a second time same day
logo_080114.png <~ original logo Fireworks file modified on Jan.14,2008

Or you could just do this:
logo_000.ext <~original
logo_001.ext
logo_002.ext
logo_003.ext

??NO??

Living Room / is someone stealing my bandwidth?
« on: January 08, 2008, 02:02 AM »
For several months now, I've had some blazing fast wifi connection.
Just the other day, it began to get extremely slow. I've called my provider, and they state that there is no maintenance going on (this was the cause last time).
My wife suggested, that because it IS wifi, maybe someone is using my bandwidth?

How would I go about checking that?
I surf on a Gateway notebook running Vista (poop i know).
I was thinking there's like a small widget or app I can run that views my network ... orrr something?!
