The only keyboard key used is the ctrl key. The rest is either long click or double click of the right mouse button.

« on: November 30, 2012, 02:06 PM »
This is nothing big, but something I have been wanting to try and so far it's working out...

How to use. Download and run PasteButton.exe below (no install, just put in a safe place :-) ).
Select some text, Right click and hold for < a second and you will see a tooltip "Text / File(s) copied..." The text will then be in the clipboard.
Double right click in an edit box to paste the text.

Select some file in a windows explorer window and hold for < a second and you will see a tooltip "Text / File(s) copied..." The files will then be in the clipboard.
Double right click in an empty space on a explorer window to paste the files.

If you hold the Control (ctrl) key on your keyboard while doing a click and hold, the text/files will be CUT instead of copied.

Coding Snacks / Re: Alt+Tab on the corner

The best I can come up with is a window with a list of visible windows like this: http://cl.ly/image/1E3u472R1X1n

When one is double clicked, it activates it. I am not able to get the icons for each app though, sorry. :-(

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Paste As File 3.2.0.1
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:53 AM »
Yep, another update already! :-) In this version I added an optional popup menu to allow faster pasting to a file type (registered version only), you can now change the default file name from Clipboard_<date> to whatever you like, and there is also an experimental feature; URL to PDF. It will attempt to take a URL found in the clipboard and convert that site to a PDF (registered version only).

You can update Paste As File by doing a Paste As File and clicking the About/Update button and then selecting Options > Check for update or you can download the setup from my site http://starpunch.net

You can see a video of the new features here -> New Features Video

Please let me know what you think! :-)

Edit: If you downloaded a few min ago 11/11/2012 (11:30 CT), try again. I forgot to include a file in the last install. :-(

« on: November 10, 2012, 10:11 AM »
Paste As File 3.1.0.0 is now available. If you have a previous version you can click on the About button and check for update to update to the latest or you can download from my site. Http://starpunch.net

I added back RTF support as an option. I have has a few reports that RTF support caused Paste As File to crash. Now you can easily turn it off if that happens.

RTF support is disabled by default, but you can turn it on by doing a Paste As File and click on the About/Options buttons. Select Options > Enable RTF support.

Yes. I am going to be doing an update, but with the "success" of Paste As File and being busy with real work :-) I have not been able to get to it. I also had to make some changes on my site, so the update is broken until I update CMF. Sorry about that and again I hope to have it back up (an listed on my site) soon.

Paste As File 3.0.0.5 is now ready for download. It includes formatted HTML and PDF file support. Thanks to PhilB66 for the help testing and for the ideas.

Paste As File allows you to paste the contents of the clipboard to a new file in the current folder or desktop via the context menu. It can paste as a text file, Formatted HTML, PDF file, or image file based on the contents of the clipboard. Supported image formats are jpg, pcx, png, bmp, tga, gif and tif.

Visit http://starpunch.net/?page=8 for download.

No body is interested? I may just have to release it as is then I guess...

587
Paste As File 3.0 is ready to be tested! I added formatted HTML and PDF file support (registered version only). I am going to make a small How To video soon, but for now:

Formatted HTML: that means when copying text from a web page or document you can paste to a HTML file and (optionally) keep the formatting. It will keep the text formatting and any images (linked) that were copied.

PDF file support: just select some text as normal and then Paste As File, change the extension to PDF and it will create a PDF from the text copied. It also will keep the formatting copied from a web page or document.

Since the PDF file support is in the registered version only (made to help recoup some costs) I need 5 to 10 people to test it out for me. If you are interested in testing, I will send you reg info to register Paste As File and test it out. I do need people who are going to give me good feedback please. If interested go to http://starpunch.net/?page=7 and submit your info. I will then send you the download link and the reg info.

Thanks!

Not a problem. I'm glad it can help out others and I know that it is an app that I use almost every day. It has had such a great response all over and to have a video review and a few awards. I am now trying to think of any improvements I can add. In the help file can you put a link to my site so users are able to check for updates and see my other software?

Also, I just released Copy Contents. It's like Paste As File but in reverse. :-)

True. I'll have to look to see if I can find another way.

Nope, it breaks if it is decompressed... trying to hack Self Note, eh?  :P

F0dder: I'm not good at writing encryption. There was a post on a forum I go to so I decided to use that as it was the only good one I could find that I did not need an external library for.

I have an app that is similar if you want to check it out. It's called Self Note and it supports tabs to allow multi notes. It is free also.

http://starpunch.net/?page=12

592
I have update Run And..., You can now have a shortcut created on your desktop and also use it via command line.

RunAnd.exe "Full path to EXE + parameters" "And..." /Autorun

"And..." options are Reboot, LogOff, Shutdown and ForceShutdown

/Autorun is optional, it will auto run the app

Example: RunAnd.exe "C:\Windows\notepad.exe" "LogOff" /Autorun

593
I should be able to do that. I'll add that either later tonight or tomorrow.

594
I made a quick app called RunAnd... it can run an app, then when the app closes it can Reboot, Logoff, Shutdown or ForceShutdown.

You can add parameters to the end also. So you can use "C:\Program Files\SyncToy 2.1\SyncToyCmd.exe" –r in the App To Run box. Use at your own risk as if you use ForceShurtown it will NOT allow you to save any changes to open documents and as stated by @MilesAhead, make sure to use the correct parameters to the App To Run.

Gives a 10 second count to give you a chance to cancel.

As per request I added CSV support to Link Snack. Create a CSV file in the following format:

Target file, Link Name, Start Dir, Location, Parameters, Icon

Start Dir, Parameters and Icon are optional

All file options require the fill path (i.e. Fill path to target, icon, location and Start Dir)
Start Link Snack and drag and drop the CSV file onto the dialog and it will be processed immediately. If there are any errors creating a link, a file called LinkErr.txt will be created in the same location as Link Snack.exe.

Download Link Snack 2.0

Enjoy!

Power Up Your Copy & Paste Functions With These 2 Tools

PasteAsFile is a neat little tool that will allow you to create instant clipboard files using Windows Explorer.
Using Windows 7, you can simply right click on your desktop area or on a folder in a Windows Explorer window. You should see the PasteAsFile option in the context menu.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Paste As File 2.2.0.0 Beta
« on: September 07, 2012, 02:17 PM »
I have made a few changes/updates to Paste As File. In this BETA version I have added a preview panel so you can see what text or image is in the clipboard and I added a way to allow PAF to suggest a file type/extension. It is called Suggestions and if any of the "words" in the Suggest string matches the text in the clipboard, it will suggest the file type/extension that is associated with the Suggest string. There are only 3 built in HTML, PHP and CSS, but you can also add your own. So if you are a programmer you can add specific "words" to look for and PAF will suggest the file type/extension. I have not updated the help file yet, so you will have to play around with it a bit. The Suggest strings are searched in the order they appear in the dialog, so if you have HTML before PHP in the dialog and you have text in the clipboard that contains HTML code and PHP code, it will use HTML since that is what it would see first.

To edit the suggestions, RIGHT CLICK in the extension edit box when pasting to a text file.

You can download PAF Beta here https://www.box.com/s/45mc57vv5kbeqj01s8pd

Please let me know what you think! Thanks!

I was contacted by the editor of German c't magazine, and he want's to put a write up in there. If there is a way to get this set up soon that would be great so people have a place to download without crashing anything. Thanks a lot!
