I apologise for this up front

Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.
   
A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu.  The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts.
   
However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car.
   
MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.
 
The Ornithological Behaviorist very quickly concluded the cause: when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger. They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Truck"

I think you guys are forgetting who you are takling to...

First thing I did when i got the car was get an OBD2 scanner.. Then torque for android to let me analyze data further.
Read my car manual cover to cover several times, got the service manual for it and browsed through that.
And then I watched dozens of videos over and over about doing maintenance.
Then read 1000s of forum posts on my specific car, and cars in general.
Then bought several large books on how cars work and how to maintain your car and read them cover to cover.
Etc, etc.

most of the jobs you're probably going to tackle are pretty basic, and certainly nothing to be afraid of.  Rental agencies will generally look after their cars pretty well (they're depending on them after all - renters, not so much ) so most things should be ok.

Modern cars are generally pretty reliable so the stuff you're probably looking at to start with is oil and filter changes, and spark plugs. 

Check the users handbook that came with the car for servicing schedules (download it if you didn't get one).  It will tell you the recommended intervals and what to change when.

You should also be able to get away with a minimum of tools for the basic stuff but as has been mentioned previously safety is paramount.  NEVER EVER EVER get under a vehicle resting solely on jacks, ALWAYS use an approved jack stand and remove the jack.  Also you shouldn't need to buy a jack, there should have been one in the car when you bought it. 

You can build a basic tool set piecemeal but a plug socket, a ring spanner (for the sump plug), a filter spanner and a 'drip tray' to catch waste oil will cover the basics.  And probably some feeler gauges to gap the new plugs...

+1 to what Chris said, but instead of taking notes, take pictures!!  A picture tells a thousand words and digital cameras make it super easy to document a process and will make it much easier if you want to tackle bigger jobs like brakes.  Plus if you want to compare something against what you're seeing on the net...

...only using the functionality built into this discussion board for our use, with the objective of focussing the comment subject line more specifically on the actual content of the post, so that people could get the sense of the content from the subject line without having to read the actual post.

seems kind of redundant to me.  Writing a substantial description of an individual post in the subject line kind of defeats the purpose of writing the post.

Surely the subject line belongs to the thread?

they might get somewhat lost in the unending series of posts entitled with the generic "Re: Firefox Extensions: Your favorite or most useful."

Goodness!    I had no idea that it might be de rigeur in this forum to leave subject lines well alone because they belonged to the OP originator, or something.

FWIW this threads been running for about 9 years (about!! that's really got to get up the noses of the pedants out there!!) so there is a history of continuity, regardless of who the OP is or was. 

let me be clear - I am not trying to be the arbiter of good behaviour here.  I don't have that right any more than anyone else here. 

I made a simple request, that's the end of.  If you feel it's justified you might comply, if not, you won't (I'm guessing the latter) but it's not that important.

using the example link you provided, and for one to one reproduction, the anchor point would be in the centre, ie at the apex of the outer arms, and you would trace with one end, and draw with the other.

What made you put the Low setting at the top and the High at the bottom?

no reason, other than the fact that it seem natural to me, eg low/high, left/right, up/down, etc.

there is nothing to say the settings gui needs to be in that format, it was just easy and generic.  If you wanted to reverse the layout, or put it side by side, or in something more esoteric that's potentially all doable, it's really up to you.

I included the source so you can look at the code and have a play if you're inclined, otherwise just post your preferences and I'll see what I can do

Uses the WIN key instead of the function key so it doesn't interfere with the original functionality

default values are 25% and 50% and can be changed via the tray menu

and to wander off in search of wherever this thread was going, I understood this was a cheap printer, but compared to the inkjet my wifes been using it will have paid for itself a few times over even if I throw it out when the toner runs out.  I'm under no illusions about it's servicability, but so long as its reliable I don't have a problem

Also ad hoc networking is a topology. Ad hoc networking can be done in a number of ways. It's not dependent on specific hardware per se. And it doesn't need a wireless capability to make it work. You could do an ad hoc network with a crossover cable and two NICs. Or with multiple PCs, cables, and a dumb network hub or switch - no router required. That's how it used to be done before wifi came out.
