Convert the word file into a pdf or jpg file ?

Pdf has some compression builtin, while for jpg you may use IrfanView to resize it to say 800 x 600

Sorry Curt

What's on BDJ today is the Viewer Pro @ USD 17.50 , not the full PDFXChange Pro(which includes the Tools) that was USD 44.40 on Oct-23,2009 only

But as you pointed out even ViewerPro is a good deal, tho I am not sure if it compresses pdfs like the full PDFXchange Pro/Tools editions .

Apologies for offtopic, but would appreciate if anyone with Thinkpad T61P/similar notebook has used Macrium Reflect
without problems to clone Vista 32/64 bit to a new disk ?

It seems there's something special on Lenovo hard disks/hidden partitions that traps many imaging softwares

Nuance's PDF Converter Pro 6 has a a feature to save as MRC pdf (compressed) which gives quite smaller pdf sizes. (on special price USd 69/- only in November 2009)
http://www.nuance.co.../relatedProducts.asp

Docutrack's PDFXchange Pro /Tools claims to create "smallest" pdf sizes:
http://www.docu-trac...ools/pdfxchange_pro/

Both are paid programs, I dont know of free programs that do this better than above two.

Darwin - thanks !

I use Paperport's SET tools daily (I find Irfanview more difficult) and PDFPro 6 as well.

If Omnipage 17 is better to get edidtable docs than PDFPro 6 its certainly worthwile- must try it after I get Win 7 installed.

May I ask: If PDFPro6 has built-in OCR what's the point of using Omnipage 17 ?

I have v17 but never installed it as Paperport and PDF Pro 6 seemed enough for me.

Is it worth to install Omnipage - does it add anything to PDFPro 6 ?

As you're a Nuance expert, any thoughts, please ?

THANKS ! By "searchable pdf" I thought it meant indexing of some sort - I'd never have guessed it could be a way to OCR'ing an image pdf. You really do know your softwares well !

Darwin

I upgraded to PDF6 Pro since last 2 months and IMHO it saves to doc files much better than older versions.
But still unable edit pdfs made from jpg files - is it essential to have Omnipage full version also  installed ?

I am looking for special upgrade offer for paperport 12 Pro as I have not got any offer from Nuance.

See yr PM - thanks

Google Chrome Frame boosts IE speed up to Chrome levels
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=5580

A reader comments under thsi article :
"Microsoft may even be a little happy about this
Google has developed a solution that:
    1. allows IE to maintain support for existing, IE-dependent apps/sites.
    2. brings all versions of IE into full compliance with the latest web standards.
    3. brings blazing-fast JavaScript performance to all versions of IE.
    4. brings the latest HTML5 functionality, to all versions of IE.
    5. reduces web development & support costs (no more IE "customizations").
    6. reduces/eliminates the need for Flash/Silverlight (devs can use HTML5 audio/video/canvas, etc.).
    7. reduces/eliminates the need for users to change to another browser, to get these enhancements.
    8. reduces the need/urgency for Microsoft to do it.

I think Google deserves a lot of credit, for figuring this out."

But: MS warns that Chrome Frame makes IE more insecure/trojan-susceptible ?

Has Google done the impossible(bested MS where others like Netscape/Mozilla couldn't) ?

My interest has always been on a tool that would take a directory tree of flat files and make a website out of them.

Mouser, would Treepad X Enterprise/Business Edition help you for this ?

What do you think of  - http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=1235

BTW I thought chkdsk was used all the time by windows before format for a clean install ?
(maybe not chkdsk /r which seems to be at issue here)
