Circle Dock / Re: Lingua Italiana
« on: January 01, 2010, 07:21 PM »
Rigel,

I appreciate your effort which arose, I think, because the original Italian translations still contained some words/phrases in English. This has been rectified in Version 1.0.2.2 which is available for download.

I found, maybe, other bug. I translate in better Italian but some things are not translated as lists in dock shape.
When I translate i find<section name="MainContextMenu">...   <entry name="Explore">Explore Item's Folder</entry>, it's a future feature?
The feature is there, and I believe it was you who requested it! However it would appear that for some reason that text did not get translated originally. I've just checked the latest translation files - there are two for Italian - and one gives "Esplorare cartella dell'oggetto" and the other "Esplora cartella dell'elemento".

1- Loading Setting splashscreen backgrund is wait and not trasparent (I think is an error)
The splash screen is not intended to be transparent.

2- If setting window is open and you click setting again the spash screen appear again instead of moving on top the setting window
I'm not seeing that here although that was a bug in a pre-release which I found and removed.

3- Dock item initial positions:
  • Using thier Deafult Position, from top and from bottom: draw item correctly but when you scroll the item jump to opposite side of a ring
  • From right and from left works.
Sorry, I am unable to reproduce that behaviour.

4- Label opacity don't work, always 100%
Quite right! But then, it never has worked! Labels are about the only section of the original source code I've not made any modifications to.

Okay Guys

I (am sure) I have finally worked out why Circle Dock wouldn't work on 64-bit Windows 7: the DLL was marked as "Hidden, System". Simple as that - I think! Though why this is only a problem on 64-bit Windows 7, I'm not even going to hazard a guess.

I've uploaded a "Refresh" (v1.0.2.2) which clears that problem (the DLL is no longer marked "Hidden, System") and the two other issues reported thus far.

Thanks Rigel and Sarge for your assistance!

Bug # ????

Attempt to rightclick and adjust "Item Settings" and I get the following:

That one has already been reported (Issue #42) and for some mysterious reason a whole section of the language master file - that defined the texts for the Dock Item Settings - was missing.

Mark

256
Which version of the DLL works? The first one I uploaded or the second?

Mark

I just used ResHacker to take a peek into the DLL you sent along.

Because it opened...I have to ask.
Are compiling in 32 or 64 bit.
This makes a huge difference in Windows 7
Normally ResHacker will not properly open 64 bit DLL's
The DLL is compiled as a 32-bit Assembly and marked as "x86" which is what is required for running under 64-bit operating systems.

The following is from the Config.ini:
That is a temporary Config.ini which the installation program creates if there's no previous Circle Dock installation on the hard drive. CD reads this and uses it to initialise the new Config.xml file which is where the settings are now stored. The contents of yours are what I would expect to find on machine with a Pentium-based processor.

I noticed that the error keeps referencing the DLL as 1.0.0.1
and the current version just sent is Version 1.0.2.2
????
That's fine. The .Net Framework doesn't use Assembly Version numbers unless the assemblies are digitally-signed - which these aren't. (The "refresh" I'll be uploading in a few hours contains CircleDock.exe v 1.0.2.2, the DLL v 1.0.2.2 but the Help Browser will still be 1.0.0.1 as it hasn't changed.)

I'm rather bemused by this 64-bit problem as a friend of mine is using CD on a 64-bit Vista installation and he hasn't reported it not working.

Mark

Update: I've just uploaded a new version of the DLL (same location as before). This one is marked slightly differently - but I hope (and will be amazed if) it works!

258
Sarge and Rigel,

Please download this replacement DLL and place it in your Circle Dock Folder. It has to work!

;D
Nice! So glad the 1.0 is released.  I found two problems in windows 7.

1. When the language is english, CD can't show unicode strings such as chinese.
but alpha and beta1 can do this.
Good catch! Logged as Issue #43 and this has been fixed.

2. when CD was first installed, drag some shortcuts into the circle, the new shortcut can't be shown until being reordered or refreshed.
Logged as Issue #42 and due to some missing texts from the language master. I've fixed this also.

A refresh release will be uploaded shortly, in the mean time, I've removed the download.

Where can i get the latest source code? is this open -source or .. ?
Please read the Help!

Circle Dock / Version 1.0 is now released and available for download
« on: January 01, 2010, 05:51 AM »
A very Happy New Year to our current and future users!

We have now released version 1 which has a host of new features and enhancements, not least is its multi-lingual support which extends not only to the product itself but also to its built-in Help Browser.

Circle Dock supports over 50 languages and the more popular ones (some 40+) are supported by its installation program, "SetupCircleDock". When you install, you can choose which language to use for the installation and this choice will automatically be set for the Circle Dock program (and its Help Browser). If your chosen language is not supported by the Installation program, select "English", install the programs and then change the language within Circle Dock's Settings dialog.

Please refer to this Topic for the download link - that Topic also has links for the online version of the Help pages (to which you may wish to refer before deciding if you wish to download the product) and to our Issues Tracker.

Caveat: there may be an issue with certain 64-but operating systems: if, having installed v1.0, you are affected, please post a reply to this topic, giving us as much detail as possible - including which operating system you are using (XP, Vista or Windows 7).

Thanks - and enjoy the rest of the Holiday Season!

Chinese language is not properly translated.:(
There are in fact 5 language files for Chinese so I'm fairly sure you'll find that one of them suits your needs :)

Circle Dock / Circle Dock: A truly multi-lingual program
« on: December 27, 2009, 11:39 PM »
Circle Dock Version 1 supports more languages than ever before and (probably) supports more languages than any of its competitors! A total of 53 languages, including the default English language, are available and to save you the trouble of downloading separate language packs, all the language files are included as standard.

Here are a few example screenshots of the same page in the Settings Window, starting with English:

CD-English.png

Now here's that same page in Chinese, French, Korean, Russian and Spanish:

CD-Chinese.png CD-French.png CD-Korean.png CD-Russian.png CD-Spanish.png

And we don't ignore users whose languages are written right-to-left. The same page in Arabic and Hindu:

CD-Arabic.png CD-Hindu.png

As you can see, for "right-to-left" languages, the Window has been re-laid out to appear consistent with other RTL-supporting applications.

Needless to say and in spite of our best endeavours, we do not support every language spoken in the world. There are some notable exceptions. We don't, for example, currently support the Brazilian dialect of Portuguese or French Canadian or Urdu. But we'd like to and if you are a native speaker of any of the languages we don't yet support and you are prepared to translate in excess of 400 text items, please let us know, we could use your help!

Sarge,

Seems like a couple of emails went astray... I'm rebuilding the translations and as soon as that is done, I'll upload a new install set for you. Watch your PMs!

Mark is working on it diligently, and we are coming along with testing.
In the mean time, I can tell you that we've completed the translation of Circle Dock into over 50 languages. Apart from English (the program's native language), the translations include Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Welsh; in other words, all the main European languages and many Asian ones too.

Furthermore, the help pages now include a "Translation" widget which you can use to translate the help into any of the languages supported by "Google Translate" - again, about 50 languages are currently available.

Sarge, if you need anything from me, please let me know asap. I'm scheduling the release for January 1 and it should be available from one minute after midnight, GMT.

I suggest you download the Net Framework version 2 from the Microsoft Downloads site and install that (it will install).

Don't work, I reinstall Net Framework, no changes aplication crashes.
Which version of the Net Framework did you install?

Circle Dock / Re: Coming soon - Circle Dock Version 1.00

I've added a new experimental option which will only be of interest to you if you are using a non-English language version of Windows, especially one that uses a non-Latin character set (eg: Kanji, Arabic, Chinese, Korean etc) and where the System Locale is set for your own country. And it's true to say that this affects mostly XP installations where the MUI pack is not installed.

The new option should ONLY be used if you get an error message on startup that states that Circle Dock can not find its "Config.ini" file.

Instead of calling Circle Dock with (say): C:\Program Files\CircleDock.exe
Use this form of the Command line        : C:\Program Files\CircleDock.exe setlocale

In other words, append "setlocale" to your existing Command Line.

This amended form of the Command Line instructs Circle Dock to use an English Locale. Note that this setting affects only Circle Dock; it does not modify your System Locale for any other program.

hi Mark, I finally found the problem, it was just me, unable to follow instructions carefully.
I reread the steps on top, and realized, I never placed your beta version into the proper folder of the old installed version.
I apologize for the confusion this caused, and will now go and do it properly!

(Modified to fix quote tags)
Ahhh! Well at least you got it working, well done! And thanks for telling us the solution!

the search engines shouldnt have any trouble spidering the dcmembers sites.. ill check to see if there is some robots directive that might be blocking it. but it may just be that they dont scan it as regularly (yet) as some other pages.

but please do host it wherever works best for you! the dc space will always be here for you, and you can always use it as a backup.
Thanks mouser!

A good friend of mine here - who's in the "web business" - has had a look at the test site I put up a week or so ago (you know where it is  ;)) and he truly thinks the Google spider (at least) should have visited it at least twice since, but there's no trace of it if you Google "Circle Dock dcmembers". Now that site does have redirection (the default index points to the actual site) but, according to him, the rewrite/redirection does not break any search engine rules. As the Home Page has search engine friendly tags and content, his only explanation is that the search engines don't have the correct permissions - given the high-level of security you've imposed on that domain. Just a thought.

I went to the settings, and checked, but every setting I can see, says German, or Germany.
I can change the country, but I don't see, where to change the "unicode" setting?
I've just rebooted my PC with Germany as the locale and Circle Dock is, I'm afraid to say, working as it should.

In the error message you get when starting Circle Dock, what character are you seeing for the file path that should be a back-slash ("\")? You should see something like "C:\Program Files\CircleDock\System\Settings\Config.ini". Maybe the answer to that will give me a clue.

as for CircleDock web space, etc., you guys absolutely will have anything you need from us in that regard.  both you and markham have web space on dcmembers.com, though i understand that markham has been having a bit of trouble uploading to it lately.

maybe a good solution would be to give circledock it's own dedicated page, like circledock.dcmembers.com or something like that.  you could just put up static page and downloads there, or we would be happy to set up a wiki page for it there, or cms, whatever.  if you coordinate with markham and let me know what you would like i will make it happen.

Many belated thanks for that! Incidentally I do now have FTP access to dcmembers.com once more, a change in ISP has restored my access. Apparently my old provider had a problem with FTPES.

As you will have read in the Sarge's latest post, he/we do now have access to the Circle Dock website (on Wikidot) and as this is regularly trawled by the search engines, that site comes up within the first few entries of a search. I may be entirely wrong here, but it would appear that dcmembers doesn't grant access to the search engines to look at and index any sites it may be hosting. I've run a few tests and this would appear to be the case.

The good news is that version 1.00 will be released "real soon now (TM)" and we will be announcing the opening of the Redmine pages at that time.

Many thanks for all your help and hosting abilities!

I do not want to change any setting because my other installed software work properly with the current settings. Please improve your software so that it works on any Windows XP and Vista and ... what ever the locale settings. This is the 1st time that I encounter a case where locale settings must be changed so as to install a software.
First of all, I do happen to know that there are Circle Dock users in China, Russia, Japan and Russia and none of them have reported any similar problem to yours. We also have users in other non-English speaking countries who run the program without problem. I'll let you ponder as to why that might be.

As to whether Circle Dock modifies the Registry or stores its data outside its home folder, no it doesn't. It will set an entry in the Registry if you opt to start Circle Dock with Windows, however; all other settings, however, are stored within data files stored with the application. Circle Dock is, by default, a portable application. The "Portable Application" configuration setting modifies the pathing information used and should only be enabled if running from removeable media whose drive letter could change.

Finally, I'd like you to remember that both the Sarge and myself are here on a purely voluntary basis and that you can download and use the software without paying even one Yen for it. Perhaps you would bear this in mind when making future posts and not be so over-bearing.

Thank you.
