Well at last I can show my gift.

It took time as the 'model' was busy with exams and I was not getting the perfect photo with both the gift and the certificate.

Below is my gift and the certificate, being checked by my son.

Living Room / Re: Apple v Samsung Verdict is in
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:17 AM »
The problem with all war is that one wins!

No matter who wins here, we the user will lose. The winner will pass the expenses to us.

Monopoly increases the price and competition decreases it. We have seen that in mobile service recently.

I hope better sense prevail and the common people do not get to suffer. The billions asked by one and paid by other is peanuts to them. It is just media frenzy for trp.

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox Spikes
« on: August 22, 2012, 02:55 AM »
No you are not alone TaoPhoenix, I too was facing this problem suddenly and after trying whatever I could, I just made backup of my extension list and bookmarks, I uninstalled FF fully and re-installed fresh from the latest FF installer.

Well it fixed the spike problem and I have since loaded few must extensions. Still working more or less without major problem.

I read this thread after I have done the clean up so did not replied as I felt that this was the extreme measure to take.

It looks like some extension or tweak was causing the spike in FF14. Till next time, all's well now.

Hi DyNama,

SAN keeps the notes in individual text file in the program (exe) folder. You can browse from explorer and view, edit or delete them. The notes are separated on based of the window title given. Since these are small text files in the folder, the number is limited by OS only. The problem may be how fast it can search and load the respective text file, when a window comes in focus. May be with too many number of files, this will cause some delay in displaying the notes.

If you find that wrong notes are shown for a window, I suggest, you explorer the program folder and check for the file named SAN_<window title> and delete it. The <window title> is cleaned up from '\*' etc. characters, if exist in original window title.

Please let me know if you are facing problem after the clean up.

I am sorry that I have not been able to fulfill my promise of making the explorer/finder from SAN within for the notes, due to continuous project work pressure. Still I like to thank all well wishers that the project work is helping be to reduce my liabilities.

Regards,

Anand

Good idea, thanks Ath.

So the website will have the hash for zip file and also the exe ; and mention so.

The zip file will have hash text for the exe, as usual. This to help if a user's machine gets infected, and he/she wants to verify the exe.

Regards,

Anand

632
Yes, the checksum is for the exe, as the values are also in the hash.txt file in the zip file, for anytime reference by the user.

I will mention so on the website, to clear any misunderstanding in future.

Anand

Thank you IainB, for this very sweet review of SAN and the five stars  :D

I am sorry that I missed this post earlier, I found it from the Newsletter today (Thank you Mouser).

Yes I have plan for an option to search for text in all notes and display, UV does help in achieving it without the inbuilt one yet.

Thanks once again.

Anand

Find And Run Robot / Re: Windows 8 and FARR
« on: July 04, 2012, 02:03 AM »
Well I am still using Xp as my main system. After I started using FARR, I forgot that the 'Start' button has other use than 'Shutdown/Control Panel'. Even I do not care how many level deep a program is installed in the start menu, sometimes 3 levels like 'Company > Brand > Program'.

Using FARR I do not need to worry all about it. Just type the few letters of the program name and it is there. I use FARR in my Win7 system too, when I need to check some compatibility issues of any app.

Now I am happy that FARR works in Win8 :D, and I will me at home when I use Win8.

Contro,

From the 2 hr video of my son's school annual function, I needed the good shot, for making the photo of him receiving his certificate.

I used "iWisoft Free Video Converter" http://www.iwisoft.com/products.php, to generate the sequence of png images from the selected portion of the video.

This helped me to select the image one which was the best for the photo.

You may give it a try.

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Generate sequential serial numbers
« on: June 25, 2012, 07:07 AM »
Good going. Must be global warming effect  :)

Need to change the thread to something 'Generating sequential point counter-point'.

Though I have similar years, company etc., I still find myself learning. I learnt from the code that AHK auto converts to string if string is added to number. Since I use a lot AHK, AutoIt etc. code, this tip will reduce my code.

Just read it http://www.makeuseof...o-your-pc-via-gmail/

The idea looks simple yet terrific. Just try to add mobile / pad with camera and gmail and you get something very interesting. Though the app is for Windows only, we can be sure of an IOS / Android version with similar idea very soon (or is there already ?).

Congratulation Renegade for the new bundle of joy.  :)

Do not be afraid by all the comments. Today's baby are more smarter than we were. Very soon she will guide you how to use the new touch walls.

My son expects a computer as obvious item at any home, and I still remember the first black and white TV, at the rich neighbor's house.

barney,

I use Free Belarc Advisor http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html to get html list of all installed programs. It gives much more information, but I use it for the program names and versions to compare between two machines, if both are having same set of program and versions.

See if it helps you,

Well I was looking for the 'new features' too, when I got the alert for TD 8.0 today.

Since the history is a long list mixed with fixes, I filtered out the 'Added:' lines, to read only the new features, which is about 115 lines.

I have been using Outlook Express in MAPI mode to clean up my GMail accounts from the early time when it had 2 GB quota, and still use it.

I download just the header of all mails from GMAil. It comes pretty fast in MAPI mode even from a 90% full GMail account, in less than 2/3 minutes. I can download headers of just Inbox or All_Mail or any other labeled mails. No timeout or so message, as just the header gets downloaded, which shows the from, subject, date and most important size of each mail.

I flag (which shows as starred in GMail) all those which are bigger or just drag them to GMail/Trash folder in OE which is similar to deleting mails in GMail. Please note that deleting mail by pressing delete key in OE will not work, you need to move/drag them to GMail/Trash folder.

Some of my GMail account which I use for all types of subscription, gets filled up too soon, as I do not check them regularly. So when ever GMail informs me about the quota full, I use OE to clean up.

Another reason of using OE instead of any other 3rd party app or web service is that the password is not given to any other app/service, even I do not save it.

Give it a try and you may be surprised by the speed and simplicity of it. You may use Outlook instead of OE and it should give same result, but I have never tried it.

Anand

Well I have ready solution for controlling the 'off topic' messages.

Give a link 'Off topic' at bottom of each message, beside 'Report to moderator', which will notify the moderator, who will check and make the message 'yellowish' or something, so that everyone knows it from the rest. Just like inserted ads in search results.

Then ones who do not like it will skip it or give it a glance. It will also make the poster of the message to be more on the topic next time.

Anand

Ok.. after chewing over everyone's comments, I decided to abandon the one month ad experiment for now.

Ahhh... After generating all the curiosity,... cold water. As a husband I am, and hopefully other husbands too, have experience of same.

I was hoping to see the result and then get an idea how good / bad is to go this way.

You see, in mobile platform, users are accustomed now to get ads, if the app is free. But the scenario changes here and the  data of result may have thrown some light on it.

Anyway we will find some better or similar experiment.

Regards,

Anand

649
Now I am feeling curious.

Let us see what happens in one month.

Regards,

Anand

Mouser, after all the discussion (we may continue), I think you got green light for the experiment. Only thing 50-50 is type and placement of ads.

While the discussion here was going on, I did a little research and found that we (the geeks, if you allow me to say) are more worried or rather know about the type / placement of the ads, but the general users take it as the norm and not exception or do not care about it.

In my office when I pointed out about the ads slowing down the page load or looking annoyed, most gave me surprised look. On saying that I can hide these ads with some scripts, they did not show any enthusiasm. In fact they put me on dock that if their work is hampered, I will be responsible.

Good Lord. I know, I use many scripts and addons and may not even see the ads on DC pages, and these people just plain accept it.

We know html, so we know ad script and placement. They do not know html but know that their site opens and works ONLY in IE6 and they will use it, period. Forget about security and html5.

BTW, I am not going to poke my nose to them again.

Regards,

Anand
