The best part about DC though is what i said before -- DC is not trying to be a "profitable business"  -- and that means we don't have to make decisions like a corporation would and figure out what's the best way to make money.  Instead we can reverse the equation and say: let's do what we enjoy doing, and try to raise enough so we can continue doing it.

A Men

agreed.

But there is something to said about wishful thinking.

And do not think for a moment that I am ungrateful to all those that have helped, especially with the economy in the shape it is in. Times are hard for all, with few exceptions. Time and money have both become very precious commodities, that can not be frivolously departed with, by anyone I would think.

Grateful does not even begin to explain what I am feeling.
I am a new member here, and after several communities over the years, I have never witnessed what I just witnessed over the last few days.

If this site ever needed a selling point, then it just made it.
Word of mouth is everything in by business, and word of mouth sells!
And actions speak louder than word!
All those who support with money, time, assistance, and code: it all just added up
And to think I just came and signed onto to get more information about CirleDock and Screenshot Captor, but I stayed, and found that I could help, and help I have.
I also found others that have helped me.
I just celebrated by helping and individual with CircleDock, before my surgery, When I got home, I found that I did indeed help.
For the first time I am understanding what it means when you hear; "The greatest pleasure is to serve"

Apologies for all the therapeutic nonsense :-[

I am beside my self, not quite understanding what I got myself into by joining this community, but am happy I did so.

The statement of I am not worthy comes to mind!

Ya know, there is a slim (albeit very slim) chance that 15 is attainable, with where the donations are now, and that there is  approximately 13 hours, if we could just get $100 an hour until midnight!

wishful thinking :)

629
By donating, in our own way, we are all celebrating.
Do not worry about it, just do what you all do.
And we will be here.

What more can be done?
Because you do what you do, we have come to celebrate with you

If you want something dramatic, how about something simple?
A scrolling page of the donators, with a simple thank you from Cody.
Nothing fancy, just the user images, and statements, that you have up, but with a scroller (or slide show), with Cody holding a banner that says thanks for your support.
No amounts and no RL Names, as I am sure people have donated what they can, so an equal thanks to everyone for this 4th anniversary, and you can place it a small area of the page header on the right hand side. This will be part of the replacement banner once the thermostat/gage is gone.

By the way;
There is now less than 24 hours or Cody gets it.
Right in the fryer.
 :hanged:

So all you out there Donate, and don't stop

630
Now you lnow that's not going to work, but I Have an Idea.

Official announcement:
I have taken Cody hostage.

Cody will be returned to DC upon the site being donated $1,000,000.00

If theses terms are not met in the next 24 Hours.
I will donate Cody to KFC.

April Fools Everyone.
Thanks for all you have done

631
I was wondering how many of the 160,000+ users on the site have donated???   couple of thousand?

I did not realize there are so many, if everyone would have just donated $2.......

Circle Dock / Re: "Circledocks" open at windows startup

My first suggestion is to take all of Circledock out of the start up file.
Make sure that all of the Circledock files are in a file labeled circledock.
If for any reason you are unsure, you can download and unpackage the program again, even over your current install.

You can now place the file in any directory you wish. I have mine in C:/Program Files/CircleDock.

Once you have placed your Circledock file, go into the file and make a shortcut of the CircleDock.exe

You can then place shortcut in the start up folder.

Now depending on your OS, this can be easy, or can get a little annoying.

If you are using XP, just cut and paste, or drag and drop the shortcut into the start up folder, in your start menu start up folder.

If you are using Vista you will need to do the following:
First off you can not properly just drag and drop a shortcut to the start up folder, as everything you put in here will create a start on logon registry key, that being said it can still be done.

Right click on the CircleDock shortcut you just created and in the context menu click "cut"

Next open the Start Menu and click on "All Programs"
scroll down to the "Start Up" Folder and right click.
In the context menu Click "Explore"

Once the folder window has opened for the Start up folder., either go to edit and then click paste, or in the body of the window right click and in the context menu click paste.

Now you should get a question box to allow this, if you have your UAC turned on, it will ask for administration privileges.
Go ahead and allow.

Close the window, go back to the start menu, all programs, start up and open the file to ensure the CircleDock shortcut is there.

If it is, then restart your computer, and CD will be there upon boot.

If it is not in the folder, or does not come up on boot, let me know and we will go to the next phase.

Good Luck

$13,100.00

Let's keep going, if we can

635
$13,000.00 :o

I know it is asking a lot, especially with less than 36 hours to go, but wouldn't $15,000.00 be nice?

Apparently there are a lot of folks doing what they can, and I must say it is a better turn out than I had expected, especially with things being tight these days.

I have been a member of this community for a short time, but in that time I now wonder where I was that I was not a member sooner.

I want to thank all of you, not just for donating, but for making this site worth while. A great atmosphere and place where I can find good stuff, good people, and ask questions without embarrassment.

Enough of the mushy stuff :P

Let's push this thing and see how far it can go

636
Skip all that; I say donate now, donate more.
Anything that makes it all easier for all of us.
And there is still the economy to worry about, so a heavy buffer is a better thing.

There is still more than 24 hours left here, and I say Push the limit.

Let's see how far we can go with it.

I say; let us not be done yet

Push folks, push

Portable Launchers are also great for another portable item; Portable Harddrives

If you are like me and sometimes a 16 or 32 gig thumb won't do the trick. You can also use your portable launcher from external portable harddrives.
I have a 320GB portable WD, with about 83 gigs of portable software, and another 110gigs of documents, pictures, and pre-preped presentations.

Especially when I travel to give a presentation, I carry it on a portable HDD, and I have almost no limits on th esize of the presentation.

I know that portable launchers push the concept of software on a chip, but I carry my OS and everything on an HDD, and portable app launchers helps me keep very organized while I am on the go.

PAL are not limited to thumbdrives, I have a friend that keeps an 8GB SD drive for his portable Apps.

How do you use your PAP?

643
After my surgery (when ever that happens), I will apparently have a couple of weeks, or more, to look into this, all I ask is that you send me an e-mail in about a week to remind me.

Also "word of mouth" is still the best sales pitch. In the forum; I would suggest and area where folks that are DC goers can list technical jobs that they are aware of that need to be filled.

I work by Los Alamos, NM, and 90% of the careers filled are not advertised, they are listed by "Word of mouth", to friends and family, who then apply.

These folks tend to get preferential treatment, as the "labs" have saved the advertising budget. These folks tend to get paid better as well.

Therefore, let someone who is employed at Volt Industries let us know there is a job opening at Volt Industries, rather than waiting for the employment sites to pick-up on the add.

Perhaps SC should be actively promoted on the Portable App sites?

I am in agreeance of this, or at least a note in the product download, or possibly a forum to address what is and is not able to be portable, concerning all software available here at DC.
The forums would also address what needs to be done to make the software portable, and any issues that may arise, to correct any portable limitations of the software as portable.

We list these software packages as portable, but I am really just and old unix/linux user that has fallen in love with the self-contained App., and the self contained app allows me to change my portable apps as needs, plus the un-install is as simple as deleting the containing folder.

minus some app folder data serches to ensure the program and all related attachments are gone.

If you have 7zip in your context menu just rick click the exe file and extract, if portable, open 7zip find the exe, and extract.

Any zip extractor will work

Just make sure to make the necessary ini changes listed below.

Works like a champ and impressed the heck out of a potential client that may wish to have training books made, and a presentation created. Since taking my laptop to this most recent interview was out of the questions, I took SC on the OCZ Diesel, and captured a handful of screens from the interviewers computer(concerning their programs), and added some "SC" WOW, and bingo, I think I have a new contract. Will know better in a couple of weeks, and if I can get the doctor to quit putting off my knee surgery.

That is because CD will actually try to open the software base.

I do not believe that CD supports the Windows controlled based Icons yet, although I maybe wrong ob this.

If someone else knows different, and how to achieve the adding of the RB, My Computer, etc.
Let us know.

Good luck with the surgery sgtevmckay!

Thanks should be a same day thing, but estimated to be laid-up for about three weeks, so I should have some time starting this weekend, and the next couple of days, as I intend to take it easy, have some fun, and do software stuff :D
