And there are places where Firefox is not even allowed, companies lol

That's like if you call your ISP to tell them your connection is unstable.  They ask you, "Are you running any 3rd party software?"  to which the only valid reply is, "No, I sit in front of the machine and wait for the screensaver, which came preinstalled, to kick in."

(You could check the oil in your car before going on a long trip.  But, if you pop the hood your warranty is void. )

I do think though that Firefox needs a few additional mechanisms to handle Windows more effectively. For example, moving tabs more efficiently between windows, an alt-tab type mechanism for windows perhaps....

Do you mean working like Opera now?

It seems like there's always a fly in the ointment. I like Opera. I like the Wand.  I like that I can go to AllMusic.com and play samples without installing anything. What drives me nuts is there's no way(apparently) to make a simple thing like AutoCopy. I just can't abide triple clicking the mouse to select a line of text.  I'd end up with CTS for sure. So I end up only firing it up when going to AllMusic or if I'm going online to buy something using the Wand(I wrote a little AutoIt3 gizmo to encrypt the [Personal] section of opera6.ini so my info isn't sitting there in plain text when not in use.  I don't have heavy enough form usage to justify RoboForm or something similar at the present time.)

My point, I guess, is I'd use it more if I could get some small changes to make life easier.  Doesn't look like they're going to happen though. I'll have to search again in case AutoCopy clone for Opera is out there but it seems like it would be contrary to the ethos or something.  I don't comprehend the resistance to it.

People are so used to tabs now that if they opened a link in a new browser window it might seem like a revolutionary experience. :)
You might be right.

BTW It just came to me but: isn't "too much tabs" just a mental problem?

I see it falling into the same category as hundreds of icons on Desktop or entries in Start menu.

Could be in the eye of the beholder.  Funny thing is, since I mentioned opening in another window, I went to Netflix, where I tried out the dual view FF addon a while before.  Turns out browsing the new releases, picking one and opening it in another window was the best way.  After that I just dragged the pic of a DVD with the left mouse button onto the new window and got the details without losing my place in the slider gizmo they have. Also it was much easier to read the copy and user reviews.  The old becomes new again. :)

I've just browsed through web (Flickr mostly) and must say that many ideas are strange because most of the people are trying to reinvent the wheel. They focus on tabs only by grouping them or creating strange lists. It is no longer usable IMHO.

Why does nobody bother to i.e. use simple list view as overflow panel on the left side on the screen? With thumbnails and transparency it could be pretty nice to use. Just hover left area and it is shown. No magic needed.
-fenixproductions (May 19, 2009, 07:07 PM)

I believe there's a TreeView side panel already.  Also I tried a side panel that shows images of the tab and kills the tab bar when open.  Conceptually it seemed worth trying but I didn't like the feel of it.  Then again, I rarely use the side panel.

DC Website Help and Extras / Re: Invalid password errors?

Seems also to keep logging me out if inactive for 5 minutes.

7331
I wonder what wil users show and will anyone post a link to Tree Style Tab addon ;)

Honestly: I might have few ideas but I will not definitely go into troubles of creating movies for a browser I don't use so often. Come on, what happened with just writing ideas down or creating fake screenshots? Please, Mozilla, do not expect me to learn Flash or programming just to allow you to rip me off ;)

Hmmmmm, the next step could be a Monty Hall. Like, you have to dress up as a chicken when making the video!!  ;D

DC Website Help and Extras / Invalid password errors?

Just wondering if anyone is getting a lot of invalid password errors logging in lately?
All of a sudden I get these intermittent errors logging in.

7333
Hmmmmm only thing that comes to mind is a split view like file managers use.  But googling I see there's already a FF AddOn for it.  Maybe I'll try it.

edit: just tried it.  Seems usable if you maximize the browser. It will take awhile to tell if it's solid. Good for the occasion when you need to compare posts in a couple of forums maybe.. Or do cut & paste.

I cannot seem to get colored output from Gnu Grep. I tried the color option maybe standard ms console does not support such thing. Does anyone know a solution?

Depending what you are doing, you may find this useful:

Figured I may as well do up the About Box with some Glass

Being a DOS application/device driver, ANSIPLUS doesn't sound like something that'll work (properly) with NT-based operating systems?

'sides, I'm fairly certain if you use Win32 Gnu bash stuff all that Linux color output will work.  It's not that big a deal to set it up. It's just it's been a couple of years so I'm not sure which LinuxOnWindows type site is the one to go with.  My memory lags. :)

I think the same guy that came up with that graphics chip is the guy who did the Flintstones instant camera with the woodpecker inside. :)

Both Folder Cache and ReOpen have been updated.  The Vista Color select dlg now changes color when you select a color from the combobox, to preview.  Also I added a delay when double-clicking the tray icon to avoid a stray click to the icon that moves underneath it when it disappears.

Both app updates have been uploaded.

Edit: added a few more colors to the combobox and put them in alphabetical order.

Seems ansi.sys isn't installed on Vista.  You may have to run bash shell and use --color option on the grep command. I know I had ls output with color so there must be a way to do it.  It's been a few years though. There should be a way to set up an alias in bash so that the --color param is appended automatically.  Something like:  grep=grep --color  and ls=ls --color   plus whatever other default params you want to stick on.

See bash win32 docs for alias commands

Both ReOpen and Folder Cache have been updated and uploaded

If Glass is enabled, there's an additional command in the tray icon menu to choose the background color from a combobox.  No need to edit the .ini file anymore. Also I added a few more colors.

7342
Much quicker, thank you.

Another bug through. Right clicking on the system tray and quitting doesn't quit while the folder cache window is open.

It quits as soon as the window is then closed but not as expected. I can certainly live with it but a known bug is better than an unknown one...

I took the direct approach.  While stuff is busy, the Tray Icon isn't there. :)

7343
hehe.. that's why we're here.. :D

Hmmm, sounds like we could be replaced by a database.  Not a pleasant prospect. :)

I refuse to get rid of my Epson Stylus C88 because I can get refurbished cartridges for $5 or $6 ea. at http://www.123inkjets.com/

I probably wouldn't have tried such a thing except I had been buying clone cartridges at a big savings from them for a long time.  The only issue I've had so far is maybe one in 40 or 50 cartridges turns out to be dry.  But for that money it's not worth worrying about.  I just chuck it.  Plus they have deals if you buy 4 or 6 at a time. I can reload all my cartridges for the price of one new name brand ink cartridge from Best Buy.

Like anything else, if it works for you it's great.  If it doesn't then it sucks.  I don't print in large volume but I've been using that source over the years so take it for what it's worth. :)

Hmmmmm, just thought I'd follow up so this post wouldn't be added!!

I have some adjustable colors now when Glass is enabled as I did for FolderCache.

Here's a screen shot with purple background color

I uploaded v. 2.3  I put back the window color customization via .ini file for Vista and W7 if Glass is enabled.

As you can see in the screen shot, I got rid of the semi-transparent color and have the thick Glass border I was going for.

Anyone running W7 or Vista with Glass enabled please let me know if it looks ok.

The currently supported colors are listed in the Readme.  In XP or if Glass is disabled, then the default system window color is used. If I don't run into any surprises then I'll update ReOpen also.

I'm trying to figure out how to do Glass without getting the see-through color of the form background.  As you can see in the screen shots, if the background color is black, glass likes it.  Otherwise you get the see-through region instead of real shiny glass.

What I'm wondering, since I'm not adept at painting the form in AutoIt3, is if there's a way to paint the region that will be glass, black, and not let the system repaint extend the form background color into that region.  The link shows the Vista Glass autoit function by James Brooks that I'm using, with my comment asking if there's a way to modify it as described.

Edit:  got it to work.. nevermind :)

If you look in the About dialog it says about caching not being performed while the window is open.  The same loop that runs the tray icon does the caching. Likewise while the About dialog is up, nothing else is going on. I think it's likely that a convoluted way of trying to monitor 2 window loops would be more likely to mess up.

Part of it is due to the fact that AutoIt is an interpreted language.  As an example, I have an ActiveX Control to does MsgBox with unusual background colors. Optionally it has a Help button.  When you press the Help button in Delphi, or VC++ or C# or VB 6 it fires off the help context event.  I can display some help info while the MsgBox is still open.  I've tried it in AutoIt and Python and it fires the Help event after the MsgBox closes.  Not very helpful... just one of the limitations of running code that's not truly compiled. Of course there are advantages too, like Hotkeys that are easy to change on the fly. :)

That's also the reason there's no minimize button on the window frame.  Sort of giving the hint that the window is not meant to be left open all the time. Just pop up and launch, and disappear.

I'm hoping eventually I'll figure out how to have adjustable background color to the window and still have Glass work the way it does with black.  Depends how complicated.  I have a feeling I'd have to paint the glass area with solid black etc..  pita :)

Fixed another quirk.  If app was starting with Windows then paths with a network drive letter would be seen as invalid and purged from the list.  I delay path validation until the window opens, rather than during reading the folder and programs lists.  This gives the system, or user manually, a chance to map the network drive(s).
