Cfont Pro is a kind of pet project of mine that was the first application I ever released.  Its a font manager that does everything you need in a highly customizable interface.  Its free so there is no harm in checking it out.

Whats New:
  • Now supported on Windows Vista
  • Redesign Font Browser to include an always displayed Folder Browser
  • Brand new Quick Detailed Viewer lets you see all fonts with key information in a single location
  • New Zoomer tool lets you see the details of any font and any character
  • Added a Property Toolbar to let change some properties instead using the Property Window
  • Glyph viewer lets you see how a font character is constructed

Check it out at:

Any problems or issues please use the support forum at:

To make sure you download the latest version:
On the Cfont Pro download page use the 'Direct Download from CfontPro.com' option at the bottom.  The download locations and alternate download locations take some time to get the newest version.

I wrote up a large blog post exposing a company called CD Earth, LLC which seems to be ThinkAll reopening their doors.  This company is doing the exact same thing with the exact same software.  Giving away free software for $2.95 shipping and shipping you extra CDs that if not returned in a prompt manner you will get charged $14.99/ CD for.  Then you are agreeing to be enrolled in a Software Library Club where they will automatically charge you $5.95/CD to ship you CDs that you either have to return to them in a given time frame or be charged $14.99/CD.

This company is doing nothing more then preying on people and ripping people off.

Lets get the word out and put a stop to this company.

Create a bookmarking system where the user no longer bookmarks a single website but instead is bookmarking a highly perfected (over time in the system) search engine query. What this does is prevent the annoying 'page not found' you get when you recall a bookmark. Instead you are always presented with the best possible websites for your topic.

Mouser wanted me to post this to get others thoughts on my idea.  I was going to keep this idea a secret and develop the website but I have come to the realization that I just don't have the time and wanted to put it out there.

I would love to hear your thoughts and feel free to ask questions if I failed to explain anything well enough.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / PAD Database
« on: June 13, 2007, 09:20 PM »
I thought I would let everyone know of the PAD Database that I maintain.  The PAD Database is one of the largest, and most importantly clean, database's of PAD files.  PAD files are basically very small XML files that fully describe an application or software.  What this allows is developers to easily update information on their software and have that information propagate around the various software websites.  The PAD Database allows developers to submit their PAD files and software / shareware websites to get a copy of the complete database.

Right now I am listing over 48K PAD files and have written a fill suite of custom tools to maintain the database: from crawling to cleanup work (blacklisting, invalid PADs, unreachable files).  The database is well maintained.

So, developers make sure you are listed in the database and everyone else if you would like to see something added just drop me a line.

Just wanted to let everyone know about a new company that is preying on novice computer users to get them to buy a one year membership to download free software.  This company has 27+ domains and is relying on Google Ads and I'm sure other sponsored ad sources to get there pages above developers pages.  I was tipped off when doing a search for Irfanview and with a little research I found a lot of information about the company.

Read about them:

Digg the Story to spread the word:

This kinda of stuff bothers me so much as it makes people distrust the internet and small honest companies.

A fun little online application that calculates the distance between two zip codes.  The distance is calculated and general information about each zip code, a map for each zip code and approximate driving time is displayed.

Why?

Like most stuff I do its practice.  This one was practicing with Zip Codes and calculating zip codes that may fall within a certain radius of others.  The best way for me to practice is to make something and usually after its made I create a website out of it in case others find some use.

As always, if you have an idea for something please let me know.

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / Whats Its Color - December 25, 2006
« on: December 16, 2006, 04:16 PM »
Whats Its Color - December 25, 2006

Online Application

  • First public release

WHAT IT DOES:
Whats Its Color is a fun little online application for getting the primary and complementary dominant colors of an image, how many visually unique colors are in an image, and the top ten visually unique colors in an image.  Why is this useful?  Well, if you were creating a website around an image or using an image as the primary inspiration for any type is design it can be very helpful to know what its primary dominant color is or what are the unique colors that people can see when viewing the image.  The final results will display your image on a background that is best suited for that image.  This application is just fun to play around with.

KEY POINTS:
  • Images are resized for display purposes only.  The original image file, and all its color information, is used in the processing
  • Font colors used in the results page are adjusted based on the colors that are in the display
  • Full support for JPG, GIF and PNG
  • Option for discarding the background from being used in calculations.  This lets you process an image on a solid color background without the colored background affecting calculations
  • Information on the amount of visually unique colors are displayed.  This includes the top ten
  • Additional color information is gathered but currently not displayed.  Open for suggestion on what else to display

Check out the website to see it in action

If you find a problematic image then please contact me so I can look into it.

Make Password is another tool I threw togther quickly for a personal need and figured I would release in case others had a need. What this online tools does is create lists of random passwords and hash values. Its kinda of useful for individuals looking for inspiration on creating passwords and extremely useful for developers who often need to setup default passwords in a database.

You control the password length, character sets, hash values, quantity to create, and even the method to display the results.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

Quick Thumbnail is an online image resizer.  This one not only provides resizing by percentage or by pixel but it also allows you to create mulitple resized images in one go.

As this is the first release, there may be things that can be done better but I think its a great start.  Over time I may add size options based on user feedback so please let me know how it may be lacking.

Anyone that knows me knows that I like to create application where I think there is room for something better.  I also create things that perform a specific function. I'm not too into the swiss army knife approach to application design.

This application falls into the category of do one thing and do it well.  Its was created for my clients who have other ventures where they need to convert digital camera images to something more web ready.  To help them out I created Quick Thumbnail and decided to share it with everyone else.

Enjoy and as always comments welcomed

General Software Discussion / Finally made a descision
« on: September 27, 2006, 10:04 AM »
I have made a descision to convert all of my software to 100% optional donationware applications.  I tried the donationware / registration process, shareware, freeware and even postcardware and nothing seemed to work that well, with the exception of the freeware applications.  Since the freeware applications do so well with downloads I decided to make all of my applications, in a sense, freeware.  I just released the next version of Cfont Pro which removed the registration process.

All downloads:

Enjoy!

This application makes things that much easier.

Just wanted to let the group know that I released a new version of a popular color picker application (Pixeur).  I redesigned the interface to include a color selector since I found myself requiring this alot.

Its being released as donationware but includes no ads, nags, feature limits, or registration code.  Basically after you install it you have the full and complete version.

I would love to get some feedback on features that you would like added.

(one thing that has been added and not released yet is allowing the user to type HEX codes in and change the selected color.  Also, I'm thinking of adding an Import / Export color history feature).

Pixeur:

(I'm going to be heading out for a bit but will reply to all when I get back)

General Software Discussion / Looking for a few beta testers
« on: December 12, 2005, 10:10 AM »
Just looking for a few beta testers for a new, major, release of some software.  The software will review all bookmarks or favorites in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape and identify whether the links are valid...

Anyone interested can email me at (place Beta Test in the subject):
soft ware @ veig n.com
(remove spaces)

I just want a few people who can run the application and give me their point of view of the functionality, usability, and any bugs they might find.

Would be nice, and a great fit with this website, to have a compiled list of Open Source alternatives to commercial / shareware applications.  Basically a nicely categorized list that gives someone an alternative application (reviewed and recommended from users of DC) to commercial / shareware applications...

Just an idea to keep this site growing...

Living Room / Download site in a box
« on: September 18, 2005, 06:54 PM »
Just curious if anyone has access to or knows where I can get a PAD enabled shareware type site script (in PHP or ASP).  I recently purchased two domains: Share64.com and DownloadDB.com with the intent to put up some specialized shareware type sites.  Share64 was going to be geared towards 64bit aware shareware and DownloadDB I had some ideas but unsure of the direction.

I am finding out I just don't have the time to create the site.  I thought I could find a pre-made site template that is PAD enabled and then just customize the look and feel.

I looked around but can't locate anything and thought I would check if anyone knows of a source.

Basically I am looking to create sites like http://www.softpedia.com in functionality..

Thanx in advance...
