Haven't tried this yet, but apparently the app SilentNight's description is:

Configure the phone to go silent and/or airplane mode between two times of the day.

Note: one can get the apk from that page or install via F-Droid -- see the page for details if interested.

BTW, there was a finally a concrete case here for using Stacked Git.  For maintaining a number of simple patches to some "upstream" it is working pretty well here.  There is even an Emacs interface (perhaps a second one that works with magit -- though that's not what I've tried).

Trying to keep the patches "grouped" isn't something I've figured out though -- heard that topgit might be better for that sort of thing, but so far don't know how to work sanely with the generated history so have been sticking to Stacked Git.

Anyone else using this type of thing?

Unfortunately no luck reaching the three under "Lots of screencasts/videos… Here are some interesting URLs with a few fun tricks"...

I have been using it for a long time. It has helped me a lot in transferring text to my mobile (Nokia 5230, non IOS or Android), via QR reader.

Good to hear from someone who has been using it for a while.  Thanks for sharing :)

I transfer big text of SMS (festival, birthday etc. wishes) from searched sites, url of a site to check in mobile browser etc. I found it much master to type my required text in the QR box and then QR read it in my mobile.

Ah, so input is being done where it is easier to do?  Nice coordination!

I definitely find input speed to be significantly different between a pc and a phone.  May be I should measure the difference...though the experience of input being perceived as slow/awkward may be more of the problem here than the speed.

You can also click the arrows at the bottom which will give you some more options

Not sure if I understood appropriately -- the arrows to the bottom right of the QR code?  Clicking that just sends me to a page with the QR code on it.

Hovering over the QR code pops up a couple of small magnifying glass icons to the top left corner -- those seemed to work ok for me, but may be once I've made it smaller, until the browser is restarted it works...

So far Offline QR generator has been pretty decent.

Just noticed today that in the QR code window that pops up, there's a text field with a URL -- IIUC this is filled in by the add-on but it may be edited and the QR code is regenerated (as one edits even).

This feature can be handy when there are few things about the URL one would like to alter (e.g. removing certain unnecessary tracking info).  The text field can also be filled in with things other than URLs too ;)

I've also found using PostIt notes in conjunction with a whiteboard to be very productive.

Aha!  For a while it was just whiteboards then post-its in a notebook...but somehow "post-it" and "whiteboard" didn't spend very long in the working memory here...

Thank you for mentioning this!

FWIW, taking photos really only started to work well here once the cameras in the smartphones had improved to a certain level.  Now if the previous whiteboard state could be automatically restored :)

I could try to finally write a plugin for use with my Clipboard Help+Spell tool, which some have asked for in the paste..

It's all connected :)

Firefox users can gradually learn more vi-like commands via the likes of VimFx...AFAIU, it's not the only one of its kind.

Note: The key sequence to enable / disable was Control-Alt-v here -- not Shift-Alt-v as suggested via the link above.

Once accustomed to the key bindings, can even move on to the many browsers with vi-like key bindings :)

Started using "View as text" -- handy for viewing certain files right in the browser instead of having to save them first and then open them to take a look...

Haven't figured out if it's possible to type something into the address field and have this add-on do its thing after typing "Enter" -- at the moment, have to find a link to right-click on...

Developer's Corner / Service: Proof of Existence
« on: October 14, 2014, 11:39 PM »
Any one tried Proof of Existence?

service to anonymously and securely store an online distributed proof of existence for any document. Your documents are NOT stored in our database or in the bitcoin blockchain, so you don't have to worry about your data being accessed by others.

All we store is a cryptographic digest of the file, linked to the time in which you submitted the document. In this way, you can later certify that the data existed at that time. This is the first online service allowing you to publicly prove that you have certain information without revealing the data or yourself, with a decentralized certification based on the bitcoin network.

The key advantages are anonymity, privacy, and getting a decentralized proof which can't be erased or modified by anyone (third parties or governments). Your document's existence is permanently validated by the blockchain even if this site is compromised or down, so you don't depend or need to trust any central authority. All previous data timestamping solutions lack this freedom.

One of my favorite features in programs / applications is the split view...here's a page that discusses it for the program(s) under discussion:

  Split screen in vi

A brief summary:

One kind of split:

Switching:
Control W Control W

Closing:

Ah, didn't know -- now I know to look :)

Personal preference is that Ctrl+C behaves as before (context-dependent), FWIW.

447
On a related note...how does the idea of provided some kind of feedback indicating (via text of some sort -- e.g. some delayed balloon with text) what kind of a copy happened and how it might be changed?  With the ability to turn this off easily ofc :)

448
my tablet (res 2560x1600, Octs core, 32GB) and can have infinite sheet size using Papyrus;

Mmm, seems nice!

FWIW, a number of times that I've drawn these sorts of diagrams, I've felt that I run out of space -- and part of the point for me is to be able to take in stuff all at once.  Scrolling or paging is a big no-no for me.  Where's our full-featured VR gear? ;)

449
I haven't had much luck with feel, speed of response, and resolution on tablets so far.  Some day perhaps...

I've been using a small whiteboard for sketching things out and a camera to take pictures for later viewing :)

Yes, definitely, some software that automatically restores censored content, with an option to generate humorous and/or serious alternatives - extra credit for anonymizing the original content by tracking down and scrubbing the tracking db content.  Plus health, happiness, and peace for all!

Now, THAT would be cool!
