Hmm, only thing I can suggest right now is to try what this guys did:

Backup strategies have been covered in-depth in other threads.
Hmm, yep sorry, you're certainly right about that. Well, thanks for sharing yours anyway :)

Makes me wonder how you guys back up your private projects (or data in general). I've got some of my projects on a public source hosting server. So if that server was hacked (or burned down or whatever) all I would have left is my local copy of the source files on my laptop. I've got some other projects on my NAS only, which I backup onto a second NAS sitting right next to the first. The local copy is on a notebook right next to the two NASes. So if all of the three got stolen, I would have nothing. Although the backup strategy could be better I feel reasonably secure.

I wonder how other people ensure the safety of their private data.

dantheman,

it sounded like you were able to resolve the problem. Would you mind describing how you did that?

Thanks.

No idea what the problem could be. I found the following thread:

Don't know if that is of any help though.

I have an HP 48GX. Served me well when I was studying (electrical engineering). It's lying here next to me on my desk, telling me that it wants its batteries replaced. I sometimes still use it to add up some numbers. ;)

If you have a Windows Mobile phone (or Pocket PC), you should add YaRPNcalc to your collection. You'll find a link to it in my signature. :)

I think I understand and it sounds like a very good idea to me! I'm just no sure I was thinking about investing that much time ;)

1008
Thanks for the feedback guys! It helps me decide if I should invest any more time in this plugin.

1009
Are you using any FScript-based plugins? If yes, make sure to update them to the newest FScript version (see here)

WS seems interesting, especially with content search. On the other hand, I am a heavy user of locate32 (which with FARR provides a nice „two-tier” search structure). I would rather not run two very similar tools at the same time, so it would have to be one or the other... So probably the question is: is WS a good replacement for Locate32?
Looks like you'll have to try them both yourself and answer your own question for the benefit of the rest of us ;)

1011
Check out the two new options 'Highlight exact tag match' and 'Highlight search term'. Still wish I could use bold for highlighting (like Firefox does) ;)

1012
You're welcome! Glad to hear you got it working.

I had to edit some Visio files lately and was surprised its MRUs were missing in the FARR MRU plugin. I've added them now.

Hi drking

To use this plugin, you'll first have to download and install Windows Search from the Microsoft website:

http://www.microsoft...search/getitnow.mspx

then download and install the plugin as described in my first post.

Then you'll have to wait until Windows Search has indexed all your files. If you're running Windows XP, you'll see an animated tray icon (a magnifying glass) while it's indexing. If you're running Windows Vista chances are you already have Windows Search installed and your files are already indexed. When indexing is done, launch FARR and type ws search terms to query the index.

If you need further explanations just ask again.

I'd like to bring this idea back for discussion. Scrolling as suggested by justice would obviously be cool (to do without the extended result list), but something simple to toggle between the normal/extended result list (preferably with a keyboard shortcut) would probably do.

1017
Thanks for the update, phitsc.
Thanks for horizontal resizing. Would it be possible to also add vertical resizing?
I guess it would but obviously only if using FARR with the auto-shrink option disabled. Is that how you're using it?

Dungeon Siege a good game?!??!

6 Months after release Games drop in price tremendously in Holland...which is why I bought my copy of Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 (one box, 2 versions of the game) for the nice sum of 5 euro's from the bargain buckets in branches of toy store chains. After playing the complete first part (which was ridiculously easy) I couldn't be bothered to play part two any further than the beginning stage.

The game is way too forgiving towards the player and hands out treasure by the bucket. Too easy to get rich and be able to buy each time the best available armor and whatnot...if you didn't get it for free during the gathering of treasure. It's unfortunate, but this game was truly a waste of time and money.

Never Winter Nights 1 with all expansion sets (which I could buy for the nice sum of 20 euro's from a music store shelf) runs circles around Dungeon Siege. Better story, nicer graphics and puzzles that require the brain to actually work. Dungeon Siege did not do it for me at all, while I love Diablo 1 and 2. And I have an action figure of Diablo 2 to prove that  :)
Different experiences, different tastes, they are a fact. I might not be a very good gamer, nevertheless I like doing it very much (although I don't have much time for it since I got kids, will hopefully get better again when they are a bit older :) ).

I remember I started Warcraft III twice and was stuck on one of the very first levels. I can only try a level so many times. Or Bioshock (5th rank on Metacritic). I stopped after only a couple of hours into the game because I didn't like it.

So Dungeon Siege was just about right for me :D

The biggest problem I've got with WDS is that there's no real GUI for it, you've got to know all their secret incantations for any specific filtering.
-CWuestefeld (May 07, 2009, 04:26 PM)
Well, if you're not using the Windows Search Deskbar but the GUI that comes up if you double-click the WS tray icon, you are provided with a limited set of filtering options.

I was actually thinking about adding something like this to the FARR WS plugin. The plan was that if you typed 'ws' the first entry would be 'Search for...' and if you selected that (i.e. hit enter), you'd get a list like:
Appointments
Contacts
Email
Files
Music
Pictures
etc.

but as the interest for this plugin seems to be fairly limited I saved myself the work. And then hamradio would obviously also have to provide additional icons.

I loved Dune II too. Maybe because I also liked the books very much. It's one of the few games I didn't pass on or throw away after I had played them.

And what about Morrowind? I very much liked the 'cultural diversity' of that game. Every race with its own 'architecture' which looked completely different than the others. Much unlike Oblivion, where everything looks more or less the same.

And what about Dungeon Siege? The only game ever that brought me to tears. Sounds weird but it's true ;D. I've been playing it on a weekend with almost no breaks, almost no sleep. Then there is that scene, where an elevator takes you out of the mines, you step out and snow starts falling on your head, and sentimental music starts to play. Unlike DS2 the original also didn't have these boring teleporters (whatever they are called). You were what felt like days in the wilderness, not knowing how far from the next town, or settlement, or hut even. The feeling of 'remoteness' was overwhelming.

And what about Far Cry (as already mentioned), where you constantly think you're on holiday somewhere in the Caribbean :)

And there are many others I could think of which I would prefer to some on that list.

Something which I find interesting is that I can't play a game twice. I've tried with several and only managed one or maybe two. The problem with games that have a (decent) story is that once I know that story, they kind of become unattractive for me to play again. I sometimes wish I could selectively erase my memory to overcome that problem  ;)

I realize it might be a stupid question, but how WS compare to Locate32 or Everything (I do not mean content search, of course, just files...)?
With 'how' you mean concerning performance? or something else? (I probably can't answer your question anyway, but maybe someone else can...)

1022
If a FARR search plugin could usefully include Google Desktop Search that could be v-e-r-y interesting - I use GDS quite a lot. It is brilliant.

However, If FARR included the MS Index Search, I have to say that I wouldn't be able to make use of it. The MS Indexing is the biggest resource hog and performance reducer I have ever come across, and for those reasons it is the first thing to be disabled on any PC that I use. Because of that, I thought that nobody actually used it! (But I guess some people must do, no?)
You might be confusing the Microsoft Indexing Service with Windows Search. The FARR Windows Search plugin will let you query the Windows (Desktop) Search index, which I think is different to the Indexing Service. I have Windows Search running and to be honest I don't think it is influencing my machine's performance noticeably. I have the indexing service disabled as well by the way.

1023
I thought FARR was for "keyboard maniacs" ;) Well, you can do Ctrl+Shift+Left and then Delete, so fair enough.

1024
I could imagine it being useful when used with plugins that take several "words" as input and one wants to delete one that is somewhere in the middle

Thanks for your feedback guys!
