General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 7 -- ribbons for everyone!
« on: September 22, 2008, 07:05 PM »
I would like to see mouser's ScreenshotCaptor done with a ribbon interface. I think it would be a good fit.

I agree for simple programs, they shouldn't use the ribbon because it takes up too much screen space.

I also think that it's not a good idea to put the ribbon on Internet Explorer because it would crowd the screen. However, from seeing some people's browsers with their bookmarks and toolbars.....

What's the definition of sports? Isn't boules a game and cycling an activity? Phil is  :-\

That's a subject of much debate, but I'm more geared towards hearing about participation in the "pure" sports. ie: things that get your heart rate up for sustained periods of time or spike your heart rate to it's max like in sprints.

This isn't actually a random question, I have something big in the works that is related.....However, it's still far off.

I'm an avid bicycle racer on the road. What sports are people around here involved in?
When you say a racer - do you mean sprinting / long distance / mountains or a bit of all ?

I primarily race on the road, so typical ride lengths are 80-120 kms here. I also do a bit of track cycling races. I'm a lightweight sprinter type, which means I do good on courses that are not too hilly, but also not too flat.

Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock 0.9.2 Alpha 8 is Officially Released!
« on: September 22, 2008, 02:07 PM »
Hi,
I downloaded CD 0.0.2 Alpha 8 yesterday, love it! I was wondering, is there a way to make the dock icons zoom out then the mouse hovers over them (like on RocketDock or ObjectDock)?

Terrific work! It's a great program... Nixo

Not currently. I'm working on Alpha 9, which is focused on giving Circle Dock better performance and more animation so I expect to get that working for it.

How would one go about uninstalling this program?  I can't find it in my add/delete new programs in my computer.  Also, it goes away when I click on an icon.  How would I get it back up???

You can uninstall Circle Dock by simply deleting it's folder. It doesn't write to the registry or anything. To toggle the visibility of the dock, click your middle mouse button, move your mouse to the edge of the screen, or press the visibility hotkey (F1 by default). This can be changed in the settings panel if you right-click the tray icon for Circle Dock.

I've coded Custom Desktop Logo that I think will suit your needs. I've tried searching for other desktop logo programs out on the net but didn't find anything that actually did a good job of rendering the graphics, particularly with PNG images. I think Custom Desktop Logo can be considered one of the best desktop logo programs out there based on what I've tested.

For a desktop logo program, you will only want to use PNG images because:
PNG images have alpha channel data as part of the image format and Custom Desktop Logo uses this data to create smooth, professional looking graphics. Most other popular image formats, such as GIF, JPEG, and BMP, do not have alpha channel data and if rendered to a desktop setting, look unprofessional. It is possible to render other image formats to the desktop but during coding, I chose not to allow it because of the poor results that would occur otherwise

I think Custom Desktop Logo is quite useful in it's current state and is very stable so you can use it in presentations. I think many professionals will find this to be a useful tool to help brand their company.

Note: .Net Framework 2.0 or later is required to run Custom Desktop Logo.

Features of Custom Desktop Logo
  • Create static or animated desktop logos using PNG images. Use it for presentations and fair booths to help brand your company or product.
  • Renders professional looking logos that can either stay on top of everything or stay on the desktop.
  • Multi-monitor support - create logos across all your monitors.
  • Many display location options for the placement of the logo on your screen.
  • Control the logo opacity, size, animation speed, and delays between animations.
  • Multi-language compatible. Simply translate the English.ini file in the Languages folder to a language of your choice.
  • Your mouse movements and clicks pass right through the logos so it doesn't interfere with your work.

What Sets Custom Desktop Logo Apart From Other Desktop Logo Programs
  • It is a high quality program that is open source and free to use. Donate to the project development if you like the program.
  • It correctly renders professional looking graphics from PNG images using alpha blending. This means that the logo appears to be part of your screen instead of having borders that appear all pixelated and off color.
  • Stable and easy to use. Run it all day long without problems.

I've posted instructions on how to use StandaloneStack on Circle Dock: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=15006.0

And yes, I will implement regular docklet support if I can code it.

Currently, Circle Dock does not have plug-in support for docklets, but you are able to replicate one of the most popular docklets out there using StandaloneStack by Chris 'n' Soft. Download here: http://www.chrisnsof...com/standalonestack/. Instructions for using it on Circle Dock are at http://circledock.wi...ot.com/stack-docklet

Thanks to R Alperen Torun for the heads up.

There are no immediate plans to code plug-in support into Circle Dock just yet. After Alpha 9 I'll look more into it.

As for the stacklets thing, give me a few minutes, someone sent me a heads up on something I forgot existed....

Thanks!
Ok, i'll try to translate them all, if I have some free time. As a matter of fact, I am studying Economy in France. So I could also offer you the translation in French for the other programs. I hope it won't be so difficult for me to understand the code, since I have some basis in Basic and Pascal.
And what's more, I have a blog which introduce some fresh ideas in using computer. I'd love to invite you to participate and update something in English. But if you don't have time, it'll be okay. Though I am considering being a part-time blogger. I was so impressed of your pretty new ideas in developing all these programs. Here is the original link : http://www.ultra-app.info and here is a translated link.
Hope we could chat sometime in msn or gtalk. Mine : [email protected] Gtalk: [email protected]

I'll put you onto my g-mail chat once I get through some of the coding snacks I'm coding. I'm making all of them translatable right now and I'll list them in the sticky of this board.

Another issue, though I'm not sure if this is workable to get around: if I have the taskbar set on auto-hide, then whenever I click the center button to call the start menu, CD seems to have to wait for the taskbar to slide back into view. This makes it take about a second to appear, and in fact sometimes does not even work (the taskbar will unhide, but no start menu will appear) unless I have made the regular start menu appear recently. Any idea if there is a fix for either of these issues?

This is related to how CD gets the start menu to show up. I still haven't found any code that reliably calls up the start menu like in regular docklets since none of the code is published.

Some animations will come in Alpha 9. I don't have a definitive time frame for making Circle Dock plug-in compatible right now but it will be sometime after Alpha 9, or if someone can provide code....

Hmm, I've been thinking about the third option you suggested as a possible solution and I think I will code that two and I think it would look quite nice for the idea I have....

I'll have to see if it works out in practice.

Did you try putting the mouse over the title bar of the window you want to extract? You could also try just putting the mouse right over top of the display area in the window and try to extract that.

If that fails, it means that your CAD program has dependencies on those windows and won't allow you to extract them no matter the method used.

Window Extractor uses the SetParent windows api function so it's success will depend on the success of this function.

There was a little bug in the language loader of Window Extractor 1.0 and I have released version 1.1 to fix it: http://windowextract...wikidot.com/download

On some computers, version 1.0 may not properly load the language files because it was using a short hand version of the file paths. Version 1.1 uses the complete paths for the language files.

Filter keys is also in Windows XP: http://www.microsoft...lity/filterkeys.mspx

However, I think the best solution is to fix the short because all software solutions are bound to let some keys through at some point. Have you tried popping out your keyboard and finding out where the short is?

That's weird, I could have sworn I clicked on it yesterday and it worked. Anyhow, it's fixed now: http://circledock.wi...download-circle-dock

I've coded a program called Window Extractor that will allow you to extract those windows in your CAD program and make them full screen with no borders and you should still have some of the normal functionality of that window, such as rotating and zooming in objects.

You can also use it to extract YouTube video's like with Detach Video. I'm not sure if anyone else is having a problem with Detach Video where it isn't replacing the video in the same spot that it came from, but I find that Window Extractor pops out and replaced online videos reliably and in the same place it comes from. I've tested it on IE, Firefox, and Chrome.

Window Extractor is actually able to extract any object in Windows that has a window handle. However, not all programs allow for extractions without crashing so it is best to test it out before use on a presentation.

Window Extractor is written in C# and the source code in on the website: http://windowextractor.wikidot.com. You need .Net Framework 2.0 or later to use it.

* Window Extractor is activated by using two hotkeys that can be changed in the settings panel.
* Hold your mouse over a video or window title bar and press F10 to extract it.
* Press F11 to restore the extracted object.

Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock gets path to applications wrong
« on: September 17, 2008, 01:35 PM »
It looks like you turned on "Portability Mode" in Settings -> General. Uncheck that option, then it should work. I have a C:\ and a D:\ hard drive on my computer and Circle Dock can file files on both of them.

"Portability Mode" is used when you have Circle Dock on a portable drive where the drive letter can change and it makes Circle Dock use the drive letter it's on to search for all the files it should execute.
