Good luck with it!

I hadn't heard of kidney stones since my friend went through the experience about 40 years ago. When the blurb in WebMD indicated how big they can get I almost passed out. Wow!

Does everyone have a copy of Godmode?
it's almost as good as a start menu.............

Click create folder.

Name your sparkly, new folder this, "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" and press enter.

Blink as the folder changes form to look like the <a href="http:/

Open the folder and bask in all your godly, control panel-y power.</p>

Use everything between the quotes but NOT the quotes for the folder name.
 :)

I have it working in Win8.1.1, Win7Pro 64, Win7Pro 32 and I think it worked in XP

All the same numbers.
Evidently somebody was thinking........... how unusual??
You can put the folder on your desktop, on your root drive, or both.
Straight to the control panel, neat and sanitary!
Works anywhere and nothing is installed. These are just shortcuts to various applets in control panel.

I read these numbers "billion"..........
then remember that it takes 100,000 light years for light to travel from one end of the Milky Way, our Milky Way, to the other end, go out and step on an ant, flex my muscles, yawn, and come back in and pour a cup of coffee. meh!! 8)

I don't think Google is ALL bad!

ahlsimers........
alhzimers...................

Google came up with alzheimers!
Game over

We all appreciate what you guys are doing in an effort to stamp out kidney stones? Thanks again ;D

Kidney stones?
I don't have, nor have I ever had, to my knowledge, any stones.

I saw in the newsletter "pingpong ball size".....
friend in the past........ passing a couple of pingball balls??
hey wot!
it'll take C-4
led to Google.....
led to beer...
led to resident brewmasters...
they are happy to read the numbers...Kidney stones are on the way out!
end of story.
Sorry if I misled anyone.....hard to wrap my head around passing a couple of pingpong balls

Edvard,

Thanks for your input here........ no salt and no spinach gives me some ammo. My doc took me off salt years ago because of high blood pressure. But the spinach, she's (I've got a female doctor) got that at the top of the list for my diet. Maybe with this for ammo I can't cut out the spinach.  Maybe not though.... she's into this you are what you eat bit, supplements, fish oil capsules, yecch. Some of those things aren't fit for human consumption, I don't think.
I'm thinking of changing doctors anyway. With all the chit-chat about colon problems and  prostate problems I chose a female doctor when I had to change the last time. Females usually have smaller hands and shorter fingers so it was a no-brainer for me. Keep as comfortable as possible was the name of the game and I thought I'd made a good choice.
Now I'm not so sure! Initially all these exams were part of an annual physical but then she started scheduling a prostate exam once a month. Now we're up to once a week!
I'm just not sure how much longer I can stand the gaffe??? :-[

When I read that newsletter and saw "pingpong ball size stones" my eyes popped, I remembered my friend, some cold sweats, lots of screaming, and I wondered what they had prescribed to make him pass his stones.
My imagination got there first and the only thing that came to mind was a quarter pound of Comp-C and a long fuse!
seems like a good time to get some facts.....?
Google turned up the bit about the beer and I thought the tenant brewmasters here would appreciate the ammunition when mama screamed "quit drinking that damned home brew, you're gonna get kidney stones". It's always nice to have an extra clip of ammo!
.. besides, it's always nice to share........ :-[

I subscribe to health newsletters.

One has a report that kidney stones can get as big as ping pong balls!!!

I had a friend that passed some kidney stones.

He was NOT a happy camper.

Today I bring big tidings and great joy!!!!!!

"On the other hand, people who reported drinking beer and wine frequently had a 41 percent and 33 percent lower risk of developing stones respectively than people who did not consume the alcoholic beverages."

Bad capacitors is old news.
I was trained as an electronics tech by the U.S. military in 1953.
Vacuum tubes and paper caps were the order of the day then and you could usually spot a bad cap visually because the oil in the electrolyte drained down and soaked the cardboard. They always seemed to be soldered to the board with a teaspoon of solder?
We're a long ways down the road now and caps are prettier at least, but I have no idea if the failure rate has improved in relation to the time?

Did everybody see this at Makeuseof?

If I didn't know everything already I think I'd take a real close look at this deal.
..... except I don't seem to be able to learn much from a video?
Follow along with my finger and read out loud seems to work better for me.
YMMV

Windows 8.1 Update 2 Rumored To Appear on August 12
http://redmondmag.co...-update-2-rumor.aspx

The latest "confirmation" of that rumor purportedly comes from a Russian-language PC Portal Web site. An article on that site is said to describe an "August Update" that's planned for "release as a standalone update on 8/12/2014 and will include new features and functionality." Various media reports on Monday showed a screenshot with that language. For instance, this Neowin article shows the screenshot.

How does Russia get the word before we do?

I know nothing about program windows but thought I might inject an idea about your memory issues. My doctor suggested memory exercises, something to make your brain jump through hoops and keep your brain out of idle. Windows is good! Win8 has a game that works for me. It's free and quite effective
Try 2 Deck Freecell from the Windows Store. I've been using it since I installed Win8.0 and it helps. It has unlimited "undo" so every game is winnable and the trick is: don't quit... play or undo and try a different play. Make your brain work at it!
Been playing it now for less than two years and already my memory has stretched out almost to the end of a sentence.
Try it!

Please insert 4,294,967,295 Formatted Floppy Disks..

Joker
I've only got about 300 floppies available and 8 or10 drives I could install and use.
BUT, I have an old IBM Winchester drive available. With indomitable courage, natural ability and a helluva lot of luck I could maybe connect that to Win8.1.1? I'll have to take a look at it!

tomas,

Digital River wouldn't let me in with that URL but I mentioned your name and got right in. Evidently nobody has ratted me out over there!

I DL the product key utility and it agrees with the numbers provided by Nir's Produkey.
The snag we hit originally was with the Windows Media Center, free with the original Win8.0 offer, available now for $10 ???,
and it has it's own key. Install WMC and it changes the key from COA to Win8.0 /with WMC. That's the key reflected by both these key utilities. If you don't install WMC your life will be a little simpler. I installed it and it warped my brain, apparently permanently, since that was a couple of years ago and I'm still having problems!
YMMV,

I'm here to tell you the subtle insinuation that I had insider information about the internet coming to an end is unfounded!
I had no idea until I read the post above and the post is available to all.

I must admit, if I had received the word sooner, I might have done something sinister???
With the only copy of the internet in your possession negotiating with Google, Facebook, Microsoft and rest of the vultures would be be a life altering experience beyond compare.

A click-thru world with no end. ahh yes!! (how much do you get for each click?)... No matter, just keep clicking!

MDL wouldn't let me in with that link. I'll check later and maybe subscribe?

I'm a firm believer in the little utilities that solve such big problems. I'll endeavor to snag the one you mentioned!

and..... to reiterate.. look at WSCC......http://www.kls-soft.com/wscc/index.php

What shocked me when I ran Produkey was it was running next door. Win8.0 was dead in the water and I never dreamed I could recover those keys, but I slaved it together with another O/S and it tripped on over and came back with the keys.
I'll run a little test on the one you use if I can get it.

And guard those numbers............ write them all on an index card and keep it some place safe and handy.
SIW or Belarc Advisor will get all your numbers for you too.  I know from experience they'll keep a grown man from crying.
The price is right with the stuff being freeware and when you see "Windows is activated" when you're having problems the relief is so satisfying you might wet your pants. It's worth it, just go change and come back and boot Windows!

For anyone working with Windows and it's inevitable updates I would recommend that you keep a copy of Nir Soft's  "Produkey"
at hand. It saved me from buying a new copy of Win8.0 when the Windows Store update to Win8.1 trashed my install of Win8.0 because of a mix-up of product keys, replacement keys and semantics about "original" keys.
Produkey searched the trashed, unbootable, O\S when I slaved it to a Win7 install and returned with the actual keys that were used to activate the system. With those numbers I was able to reinstall Win8.0, including the Windows Media Center, download the upgrade ISO for Win8.1 and get up and running, without incident.
Produkey is included in Windows System Control Center, WSCC, which is a frontend for Nirsoft Utils, Sysinternal Utils, and Windows Utils.
Total of almost 300 essential utilities.
It's freeware!
It was discussed here months ago but I think it come up in the world since that discussion. For one thing it now supports 64 bit systems.
Just search DC for wscc or Google will find it for you with just those four letters. It updates often. With so many utilities something is always being updated so punch the buttons for All Items and keep it current. It will get you out of trouble!
If not today, soon!

P.S.
It will recover passwords too and password recovery utilities usually return as a virus in your AV program. You may have to whitelist them so they will be ignored on a virus scan.

As I recall, those old DMPs had open reel ribbons. This battery powered typewriter uses a cartridge, sealed cartridge, but a wide X-Acto razor saw works nicely to split that plastic cartridge. It will reseal with regular PVC cement. Some specs on ribbon width are in order and I might get lucky and get that old typewriter working. Then I could send it to the Museum of Natural History with that last ribbon!

Thanks,

I'm beginning to think this is a bad idea. I've been playing with Google, trying to get a URL for the internet, but you get nothing useful. entrance to the internet doesn't come up with anything you can work with either. There's just no specific place to start printing!

And then, after you get it all printed, how do you file it? Dewey Decimal System? It's been years since I've heard that even mentioned. How much will it accommodate ?

Too many questions that I can't answer. I think I'll leave it alone awhile until I have more answers.

Thanks

I may have to settle for black and white!

I'm having second thoughts, anyway. Think of the file structure alone to house the entire internet. Look at DC, and the Library of Congress, and Google!!! Wow, a directory tree to handle everything would make the Win8 registry look like a pimple,
I gotta find another hobby!

If you're really printing a *lot*, you could set up one of those IV style systems where you have the ink in bottles piped directly to the cartridges.

Try http://www.printerkn...ous-flow-systems.10/ for more info
I read a piece by Vic Laurie recently that printer's ink is about $3000 a gallon. May be better to pipe in crude oil?
