Find And Run Robot / Re: Focus Problem
« on: March 08, 2006, 06:03 AM »
I find that adobe acrobat reader causes more focus problems with alt+space than for e.g. Word - I can almost reproduce it.

mouser, can you tweak the "always maintain focus" routine to force focus after X seconds?

Also, is it possible to use ALTGR as a trigger - I tried ALTGR+SPACE in the custom trigger key but it wouldn't work...

I use SSH and VNC; CopSSH is good and free SSH server for windows - if you want to pay cash then WinSSHD is an amazingly well coded and thought out SSH server. Then you can tunnel a VNC connection over the secure SSH connection. But that is NOT "zero-configuration"! ;)

Regarding the connection - I believe they negotiate initially via the server which ports they can tunnel their protocol through, though more details would be nice. The point is they are very clear and open about their security mechanism and encryption. It would be easy to check their claim that there is no traffic to their servers using ethereal...

Yes indeed, ALT maybe a possible issue. I find CTRL+SPACE far less accesible - I'll try ALT+SPACE in the new version and see if it happens still...

Find And Run Robot / Re: Performance in New Version

I can confirm the excessive disk activity on startup using history list is fixed:

https://www.donation...cking/view.php?id=77

Now FARR performs only ~500 disk operations compared to ~3000 before. Most of that activity is scanning files for icons and doing something with desktop.ini in the monitored directories.

Thanks mouser!

Yes!!! I've tried ALL focus options to see if anything works but I still have this. I also notice it happens more frequently on a multi-monitor setup for me. I can never reproduce it so refrained from reporting it, but three of us at least means our delusions are consistent! ;)

Best Text Editor / Re: evolvEd - General Purpose Text Editor
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:39 AM »
Hi, just like to say evolvEd is a nice little editor! Here are some constructive wishes:

1) PCRE regex (what is NFA Traditional by the way, maybe it is compatible I didn't test it yet?).

2) MDI or at least tabs.

3) Line height changeable (critically important in readability, many studies done).

4) Regex in keywords - I want to highlight INI file sections which are ^\[.*\]

Best Text Editor / Re: thanks for Notepad2 !!
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:07 AM »
being able to use ESC instead of Alt-F4, does anyone know how willing the author is to implement new features?

That is already possible! Settings > Esc key functions.

Note that Notepad2, just as Scite and Notepad++ also uses Scintilla.

My Opera config tries to minimise lost screen space, and uses my Breeze II skin, Web Developer MICRO, customised mouse gestures and the wonderful Designer keyboard config; several panels from different sources also used:

Opera_config.png

Not visible in the screenshot, but I'm using the unicode and md5 widgets. I also extensively use Opera's new site preferences to tailor customised CSS and javascript to each page I visit, restyling them as I please. I do use the personal bar, but toggle it off using a custom mouse gesture (up-left-right to try if you installed my mouse config). I've lots of custom mouse gestures to keep moving the mouse to a minimum. The designer keyboard setup has many intuitive one-button shortcuts for extremely efficient navigation, but it takes a while to learn...

I use Firefox as a backup, and so I haven't tweaked it as much, but I give you my list of extensions (most considered essential apart from fasterfox (I can manually tweak much better) and adblock (Proxomitron is much more powerful)).

There is a review here: https://www.donation...alMachine/index.html

What is the difference between Workstation 5 and GSX Server?

The problem you are facing is because of javascript routines. Once a page is loaded they change the focus.

Opera allows you to use user javascript to override this. You can set this on a white or black list to allow some sites to use focus and all others to not be able to change it.

You can find an appropriate user js extension here:

http://userjs.org/sc...ents/stop-form-focus

You may need to manually edit the include / exclude list to specify what page you want this to work on.

User Javascript is a hugely powerful, you can modify any page, changing its behaviour. GreaseMonkey is the equivalent for Firefox, though it is limited to altering onload behaviours AFAIK.

General Software Discussion / Re: Multiple desktops

Damn, Vern is excellent, but sadly it has a bug in virtual desktops on my Matrox two-monitor setup (though it is supposed to support multi-monitor). A real shame as otherwise it seems excellent! Any other virtual desktops working on multi-moitor setups?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Per-Object Smoothing
« on: February 10, 2006, 03:17 PM »
OK, submitted: https://www.donation...king/view.php?id=181

I assume it is a feature request, though you mentioned that you thought a copy/pasted bitmap should not be antialiased so maybe it is a bug?

If I turn off prefs > object > use antialias when saving, then the blurring disappears. But then so does the blur on the text wheich I want to keep.

Transparancy set to 255 and Size set to 100%

I get the same thing if I turn off smoothing completely. All I've done is copy/pasted:

General Software Discussion / Re: Best Executable Compressor Programs
« on: February 10, 2006, 11:37 AM »
Well, my only gripe with compression is specific to certain apps, as compression forces all code into RAM at startup and stops another running instance share any working set. In your case your apps are small when in memory and normally run one instance so those negatives don't really count. I'm certainly not opposed to compression for your apps, just curious on the reasons. Thanks :)

Screenshot Captor / Per-Object Smoothing
« on: February 10, 2006, 11:25 AM »
Hi All,

When I cut and paste bits of a screenshot, I noticed that SSC applies a smoothing filter — note the first opera line (which is a copy-n-pasted object from another bit of the screenshot) is fuzzy:

Performance TP2 v.png

What I want is in the object properties to specify whether smoothing is applied to that object. This allows one to keep smoothing for other bits but turn it off specifically for other screenshot part objects (that look bad when smoothed). I know there is a setting in preferences but I assume that enables/disables app-wide, which I don't want.

Cheers

mouser: why do you compress your programs out of curiosity? As far as I can see (I'm no programmer, so anyone tell me to shut ;)) the benefits in general are no so substantial.

Not to pour cold water, but download accelerators have quite a fair pinch of snakeoil about them.

At least for HTTP, multiple connections really adds robustness and not speed to downloading, yet they've been hyped for ages.

EDIT: it seems to be a peer-to-peer as it claims using networked computers, or maybe it's server-peer based - that will speed you up but the details are very unclear on their site, which I find worrying.

I use FARR to trigger nircmd with the following:

monitor (on/off/low) $$1 | nircmd.exe monitor $$1

524
No, you need to change the File version=n string at the top of the file to something larger than Opera's default. This is the way Opera tests to update it. Set it to 20 manually, then use opsed and it should stick...

525
The search interface is nice, but actually a step back for me -- I'd been using a third party editor that has a bit more flexibility, particularly the ability to reorder them.  I dont' think it's compatible with search.ini anymore, so looks like I"ll have to manually reorder them.

This has been requested on the forums. It is also missing an encoding option which can be important for some searches. The format is the same as the old search.ini AFAIK, so as long as you edit the File Version= string you should be able to use opsed...
