App, that's basically what he's saying, actually  :)

죄송하지만 기본적인 번역을 할 수 있습니다. 우리가 어떻게 도와 드릴까요?

Actually, I'm with you, superboy. I have to have all my data locally. I would never, ever, trust my (or my company's data) on some server out there on the interwebs. What if they are hacked? What if they catch fire? What if my internet connection goes down? What if a disgruntled employee erases random data? What if they have a hardware failure and restore an older backup? What if they are DDOSed? What if they suddenly raise their rates by 10x?

All of that I believe is covered here by me personally with a UPS, shadowing, and off-site daily backup.

Plus, I do so hate going to some website to run an 'app' - for me, an application launches instantly on my desktop.

Shades: yes, although it sounds like you're doing some pretty hardcore coding if you're dealing with SAP: the very mention of which fills me with terror.

Superboyac - if it's just one or two templates that you need, it would be reasonably easy to create you a sample from which you could get a good kick-start. Once you see how to do the basics, the formatting etc. would be up to you, and very similar to creating an html page.

Actually, I was going to remark on the absence of a fifth column but I didn't want to provoke a row.

Crainioscopical...shows up on 'queue' as always!  ;D

omg  ;D

So - is there somewhere that we can browse the wares? Like a one-page summary of what to look forward to in March?

So if its it's isn't 'it is' then its it's isn't it's, it's its?

Got it. :P

Damn, he's good...

How annoying! I would expect regsvr32 to do the trick for you - there is in fact an installer in this archive, but it's incomplete.

It's not "it's" unless its "its" is "it is" not "its", otherwise it's "its"

I am travelling a lot in March (mouser, I'm coming over your way)

a dc gathering in march!  anyone else want to visit champaign IL for some dinner and board games?

Well, I'll be in Chicago for a week - it would not be out of the question if things go to plan. I know you're outside the city, but not that far eh? Couple of hours is it?

310
Can this Bat of yours be customised, plug-in'd or otherwise extended? If so there may be a way to shoehorn in a better editor while retaining all the other fine features of the program.

Wow!
-cranioscopical (February 25, 2011, 11:32 AM)

You're impressed that I can count, right? I can actually make it all the way to 21, thanks to my vestigial 6th toe.

312
Good point, and getting back to that:

1. A new application that will help you to read the DC forums 'offline'

2. A full review of a large software application

3. An HITC cartoon strip if anyone wants it  :-[

4. A 'How-To' or 2 if I have time... I am travelling a lot in March (mouser, I'm coming over your way) but maybe it will give me something to do between schmoozing sessions

313
Yes, I would definitely not want to say goodbye to the DC brand in any way. But multiple domain names and landings would be nice perhaps. Once someone's interest is piqued, one would hope they'd look around and discover the forums etc.

All this really leads back to the re-design conversation. And app's offer of building the software page could be a huge part of that.

314
Something that occurred to me last night (and apologies if this has been discussed before) is that one issue is the site's name itself.

Any of my friends who are not coders would probably never visit a site called DonationCoder simply because the name suggests that this is a place where coders who earn or expect money from donations hang out, NOT somewhere to find amazing software, reviews and how-to's.

Has DC ever considered a more 'usery' alternative name, leading to a landing page that eases them into the site?

Welcome to DC, DJ Azero. Nice to see the old traditional meaning of 'googol' there  (correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't "googol" the first $1,000,000 answer on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?')

e.g. c:\Program Files\Auspex\Auspex.exe -inifile t:\portable\auspex

Hm, that doesn't look really portable, I'd go for:
t:\portable\auspex\Auspex.exe -inifile t:\portable\auspex

Good one. I've edited my post.

317

In a thread like this, often we forget to compliment you on all that is good in Auspex, and growing better.
[If only I could think of something… ]

How about the icon? That's quite nice.

p.s. Be nice to see a double-click on the tray icon bring up the GUI.

Ah yes - still on the list.

318
I did a few google searches for pretty recent posts, and I'm getting hits now - this is good, right?

319
events that was. A little more accurate and complete version of events was right before KenR went to the hospital, etc. etc.

Off-topic I know but if we ever launch the "post of the month" competition, I vote for this one from Ken  ;D

EDIT: oh balls, I only just noticed that post was 1170 days ago  :-[

Or, as Frink would put it:

#2011-02-24# - #2007-12-12# ->days
1170

Interesting, but I can't get past the fact it's a very patronizing tone.

Folks, new Auspex is up. I'm wondering if we should lock this thread and move everyone over to the other one here:

Yes, here

@mouser, what do you reckon?

Living Room / Re: Show us your desktop
« on: February 24, 2011, 06:52 PM »
Well, you've shown me yours, so I'd better show you mine:

TimDesktop.jpg

I have 3 screens in a row, and I use them in a very strict way.

Left Monitor: this is my "info screen". At a glance I have time, date, system status, etc. I also keep my browsers, todo list, and scratchpad over here.

Middle Monitor: this is where I have my IDEs, CRM, email etc. to hand.

Right Monitor: this is the DOpus, SQL and message screen. Calls, skypes etc. appear here, and this is where all the filing, copying, uploading etc. goes on. And random deletions from important client databases.  :-[

I should make a special mention of a couple of things that didn't show up on the screen: FARR of course, and skwire's marvellous DropMove thingy.

You can now use Auspex from any location. Simply set up your icon with a path similar to this:

<YourPathTo>\Auspex.exe -inifile <YourPathToItsDataFiles>

e.g. t:\Program Files\Auspex\Auspex.exe -inifile t:\portable\auspex

The rest is just mini fixes - but you folks who have to "wake up" the program before it starts to work: it should get itself going straight away now.

324
That is a very interesting read indeed. Unfortunately I have to agree with a lot of it, even though I don't want to  :(

General Software Discussion / Re: webpage change notifier
« on: February 24, 2011, 03:20 PM »
I can think of 2 off-hand:

Check & Get

Website Watcher

Both are very powerful, lots of features and will definitely do what you need (with a bit of faffing) - but they are both also (relatively) expensive. There are other solutions too - several freeware thingies let you set up a simple monitor to watch for changes to a page. For example I believe RainMeter can do that, but not tried it.
