Find And Run Robot / Re: Skinning?
« on: May 24, 2005, 12:37 PM »
No offense intended to anybody, but I personally really hope you never skin your applications.  The list of reasons not to is quite long, but at the top are the facts that it degrades performance, and leads to undesirable side-effects for those of use who count on forms operating in a standard, expected manner.

Just say what it is.

Any chance DropCount could be made to accept a path as a parameter?  By that I mean "DropCount.exe %1", e.g. "DropCount.exe C:\"  (I was hoping to create a shell extension out of it--easily achieved with a simple registry addition.)  This would also enable for a folder to be dragged-and-dropped on the DropCount shortcut itself (e.g. if that shortcut were on the Desktop).

Edit:  If version 1.03 is supposed to do this, I apologize.  I just downloaded the current copy, which is marked 1.03, but the EXE is marked 1.02 internally.

I was kidding; I know you wouldn't do that.  Is it something to do with auto-filling web forms?  (Hey, someone had to take a shot at it.)

That was my first thought, too, but I didn't go there.  :)

Oh, umm, just kidding.  :)

I've long felt that I was the only person on earth who'd never used ebay, and probably never would.  Oh well.

I guess valhala is still staring at the drawing board.

Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Automatic Copy when highlighted
« on: May 22, 2005, 11:16 PM »
The auto-focus feature drove me nuts.  In just a few minutes, it caused me to make several mistakes, due to focus changing without me noticing.  I don't think I could get used to that.

Anyway, the crash I had could be a conflict with the other shell/hooking software I already have (and I have a few).

Just a warning:  On my system, True X-Mouse Gizmo 1.4 makes Explorer.exe crash, at least sometimes, when I close it.

By the way, I'm never blindly trusting of obscure software like this; but I did scan it with Jotti (it came back clean), and surprisingly, the file is actually digitally signed (which in itself means almost nothing).

Is this it?

If so, may I have the official title of "Resident Googler" affixed to my user name?  (Just kidding :))

I tested this utility ("True X-Mouse Gizmo") very briefly, and it seemed to work.  Perhaps unfortunately, it does things other than what is requested here, which is to automatically copy selected text.  I recommend reading the entire page linked to above, even though it's about 5,000 times wordier than it needs to be.

WTF?  If anyone can make any sense out of that, my hat is off to you.  Otherwise, I'll smoke about 5 pounds of crack, so I can make something similar.

I use "eeemale", just to be different.

I personally did know the difference between the App Paths key and the %path% env var...  Just thought I'd mention those utils in case someone found them applicable to their problem.  Sorry if it didn't fit here.

--thought better of this post.  move along, move along.  sorry.--

Nice job on System Path Commander.  I tried AppPathZ (as mentioned above), and didn't like it at all.  So I thought I'd mention another freeware alternative for editing the "App Paths" registry key: AppPaths.

221
I am too tired and lazy to do more than skim the original post, but as mouser said, doesn't this exist already?  I think I've used a few that fit the bill...  One was TxEdit, which I haven't used in years.  There have to be freeware options as well.

Suggestion for (potential) future version: Roll off log entries after a certain number exist.  Otherwise (and as I'm seeing here), memory consumption continues to grow over time.

Other ideas...  Ability to change the user agent reported, ability to randomize the number of minutes between submissions, ability to randomize the URLs (maybe by reading a second TXT file, one that contains a list of URLs).  I'll shutup now.  :)

These are suggestions, not requests.  As I've said a billion times, I really appreciate all that has been done already.

I can't say much; I'm an incredibly-anal ultra-neat-freak myself.

I'm not sure if text is getting cut off on submission, or when it is displayed in the Log.  Here's the "URL" I'm using:

http://www.google.com/search?q=$RANDFILE$ "$RANDFILE$ $PRANDFILE$ $PRANDFILE$" $PRANDFILE$ $PRANDFILE$&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wg

And here's an excerpt from my Log:

5/21/2005 , 9:21:51 PM -> http://www.google.com/search?q=interliners "tintinnabula immaterial settee" epeirogeny&safe=off&sa=N&tab=w
  Submission completed.
5/21/2005 , 9:21:54 PM -> http://www.google.com/search?q=phototherapies "psyches scrumping" somas&safe=off&sa=N&ta
  Submission completed.
5/21/2005 , 9:21:58 PM -> http://www.google.com/search?q=indexer "mayan organologic"&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wg
  Submission completed.
5/21/2005 , 9:22:00 PM -> http://www.google.com/search?q=booted "grumpishness"&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wg
  Submission completed.
5/21/2005 , 9:22:02 PM -> http://www.google.com/search?q=radially "englutted" sainted&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wg
  Submission completed.
5/21/2005 , 9:22:12 PM -> http://www.google.com/search?q=coupon "taeniae vitellogenesis clamourous" hr assailants&safe=off&sa=N&tab
  Submission completed.

Looking at the end of each line in the log output, it seems that sometimes, the last parameter gets truncated, and other times, it doesn't, though it doesn't seem to be caused by URL length.

Living Room / Re: Getting Started with C#

Cool, thanks.  I installed it, and now I have that feeling I would have if I sat in the cockpit of a 747.  :)

From the looks of it, Learn to Program with C# by John Smiley is a good choice for newbies.  Time to go to the bookstore...
