Living Room / Re: I'm getting married, wish me luck!
« on: October 07, 2018, 09:21 AM »
In the 13 years of DonationCoder, I've been pretty reticent about talking about my own personal life.
It's not that I don't view everyone here as family -- it's just a general shyness and reluctance to talk about personal details.

But I wanted to share with my donationcoder family that I am getting married next week.

 :-* :-*

It's definitely not something I expected to be doing a year ago, but we found ourselves in a rather unusual situation after a couple years of dating where we were either going to be separated on different continents or try to make it work as a married couple, and we've finally decided on the latter.  After almost 50 years it's a very different kind of adventure we're embarking on, and I'm excited about it and wanted to share it with all of you...

(I hope this explains why I may not have been on the forum as much as usual over the last couple of months -- but I hope to be back to my normal activity later this month).

It's just a court wedding so don't expect any fancy photos, and there's no reception to attend, but here is a photo of us during a recent hiking trip (I'm on the left!):

Bonus points: Can anyone identify where the photo was taken?
I wish you many years of happiness.

General Software Discussion / Re: Malwarebytes 3.0 out
« on: February 04, 2017, 09:45 AM »
At first the program was so bad I could not install it on 2 of my 4 computers.

But now since 3.0.6.1469 became available all is well.

The folks at Malwarebytes were a little too quick to release the program to the world.

I have many licenses for EaseUS BUT every time I get a FREEBIE it takes a couple of days until they tell me that the license is used on another computer.

Because of this - I pass.

Nonethe less, good luck to you.

Living Room / Re: Zip Drives revisited
« on: May 31, 2016, 12:29 AM »
I had 5 Zip Drives - 2 parallel port and 3 USB ones (100 Meg)

Loved them but when they became obsolete I just had to scrap them.

Couldn't even give them away.

Oh well, it was fun while they lasted.

I am, sad , like so many others but I've given up whining and crying.

I'm staying with Outpost Firewall Pro until they pull the plug on it and if I am still around (i'll be 82) I'll worry about it.

I see I am repeating myself.  :) :-[

Big disappointment on my part.

I really like Outpost but it is soon to become toast along with my 6 licenses.

I have no interest in Kaspersky. :(

My little 10 pound baby is growing great.

Only guessing but he is probably 40 pounds.

I fear these sites like I fear the Devil.

What has happened to the Internet that we once knew?

Living Room / Re: Show us a picture of your.. CAR!!!
« on: October 31, 2015, 11:45 PM »

This is my 1997 Toyota RAV4L which I purchased for my Basset hound, Fred on August 8, 1997.

It has since passed on to Fred II and now Fred III.

I have never kept a car this long before but since I drive only a little less than 100 miles a month it is silly to even think about replacing it. It still looks and runs like a new car.RAV4.jpg

I can't spend any more money for a while because I'm saving for my girl friend's 18th birthday present.

Yeah, I'm 81 years old--gotta problem with that? ;)

17
That's my favorite.

I could do a screen capture but I know you believe me. :)

I have 4 computers and 4 SSDs.

Honestly, I don't need 15 Tb. :)

Okay, given the name, and the breed, I have to ask ... Does this have anything to do with (Jerry Reed) Snowman's dog in Smokey and the Bandit? To this day - Hang on to your ass Fred... - is one of my all-time favorite movie lines.

Believe it or not, it was not brought about by Smokey and the bandit. Great movie, by the way.

I'm a ham radio operator and a day before arranging to pick up Fred I in July of1997, I went on the air with my gang and asked for suggestions for a name for my soon to be Basset Hound. Someone suggested I name it after one of the senior members of the group who just happened to be named Fred.

The rest is history.

By the way, that picture of Fred I was taken in a 1997 Toyota RAV4 which I bought especially for him because of the room behind the back seats. I still drive that 18 year old car and all the Freds have ridden back there.

22
Thanks. I've had 3 Freds.

Here is Fred I (the KING)

23
For the record, this is Fred II

24
Fred II went to heaven on May 7th.

Went searching for Fred III and found him on June  4th. It was love at first sight.

25
Good one!
