FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: System Tray plugin

This is by design. Currently I have issues retrieving the icon of FARR, so I ignore it. This defaults to a folder icon instead.
OK, thanks.

By "hidden" do you mean they are visible in the tray, but are hidden the by << icon? Or are you using a program to totally hide them?
Sorry I wasn't clear - hidden by the << icon.

The volume and other system icons are only an issue on Vista, not XP.
Ah yes, I should have read more carefully what you originally wrote. Sorry.

What software or such does not display a tooltip?
This icon is for the internal ADSL modem.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks. I hadn't realised that a .lnk gets its target's score, as well as its own.

I have done a quick test to confirm this :

* uncheck the "Remove duplicate links to same target" option
* set %MYSTARTMENU% and %PROGRAMFILES% to the same score
* type the leftmost few letters of an executable name

The .lnk appeared above the .exe in the results list and the difference in scores confirms what you said.

Thank-you for looking at this, mouser.

Hi, joshuawood,

I tested PS Tray Factory recently but it didn't quite work for me, so I was very interested to discover your plugin.

A few things that are not quite working yet (on my system - XP Home) that I hope will help you :

* FARR itself appears as a folder icon in the list instead of the default white F in the blue circle which is how it appears in the tray
* I have three hidden XP icons right now - two appear in the plugin's list, the other doesn't
* ZoneAlarm which is not hidden doesn't appear in the plugin's list
* FARR doesn't disappear once I have picked an entry
* I do see Volume, even though you said that you didn't know how to get system icons such as this
* trying to select an entry with no tooltip and therefore no title causes an Access Violation - I won't do it again but maybe you could hide them in the first place.

I am planning to continue trying the plugin, so if you need some help testing a new version then let me know.  Thank-you for your hard work so far. I hope that you find some more time to spend on this project.

czb : Thanks for taking the time to reproduce my problem.

mouser : As my non-contiguous search option was already disabled, I tried enabling it.  The scores for the two items in question didn't change.
Do you think you will be able to look into this for me or is it not high enough on your list of things to do?

Hi, Mouser,

Thanks for your welcome to the board and your kind comments on my first post.

Yes, I noticed that IrfanView - Thumbnails.lnk includes the substring mbna, so I wasn't surprised that it appeared, just that it appeared at the top.

I already had the non-contiguous search option disabled.

If you could reproduce my problem that would be cool.  ;)

Thank-you for your help.

New user of FARR.

When I type mbna the top two entries that come up are :

IrfanView - Thumbnails.lnk878C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\StartMenu\Programs\IrfanView

I don't understand how Irfan can beat mbna.rfp. I have tried looking at the scoring options and have come up with:

Search Folders
K:\XXXXXXX (Subdirectory depth = -1)100
Heuristic Scoring
History bonus (both are listed in my history)200200
Exact match100
Leftmost bonus150
Percentage of Search String25 (??)
Whitespace Removal00
(The other entries are not explained in the Help file and I can't work out how to use them.)
Pattern Scoring

These scores, although obviously only part of the story, are so heavily in favour of mbna.rfp (which is what I want) and yet it comes up second. Please could someone help me understand
i) the other entries in the Heuristic Scoring options
ii) what other tests are affecting the scores.

(The Help file is badly out of date in many ways - the screen prints are of a previous version and some new features, such as the extra heuristic scoring options, that have been added to the application have not been added to the Help.  This makes it very difficult for a new user such as myself to make the most of what is obviously a very powerful program.)
