Find And Run Robot / FARR doesn't display icons for exes in path
« on: October 28, 2020, 04:36 AM »
I've noticed that FARR doesn't display an icon for programs that are in path.

I have an alias with lists some consoles:
1000>>>>->Windows Terminal | wt.exe>n>Conemu | D:\util\conemu\conemu64.exe>n>Powershell as admin | pwsh.exe /runasadmin>+>^cmd$

The icons for pwsh.exe and wt.exe aren't shown in the result list.
2020-10-28 10_01_28-Window.png

Powershell is located in C:\Program Files\PowerShell\7\pwsh.exe, and when I set the absolute path in the alias, the icon is shown. I am guessing that FARR doesn't know how to resolve the exe when it's in path to get the icon from it?
where pwsh
points to the correct location from cmd, I am sure there is a way for FARR to determine the exe location as well.

Windows terminal is a whole other beast, since it is installed as "Windows10 app", however it's called. The actual exe is located in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsTerminal_1.3.2651.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\wt.exe, which I guess changes with each version. The wt.exe that is in path is located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\wt.exe, and that is a zero length file. I am guessing it is a link of some sort, but it doesn't look like a symbolic or a hard link. This file however doesn't have an icon. I have no idea how to even try to solve this.

I am currently getting arround this with setting custom icons with /icon= alias keyword, but it would be awesome if FARR could manage on it's own.

Find And Run Robot / Bug: drag and drop files doesn't always work
« on: November 13, 2017, 07:22 AM »
I've noticed that sometimes drag and drop is not working as intended. I can usually find a file in FARR, drag it from the search results and drop it to some other app to do an action.
For example dragging an mp3 to foobar2000 will add it to the playlist, dragging any file to desktop will copy it there etc.

I've noticed that it doesn't always work, for example dragging and dropping to a new message window in Outlook doesn't do anything. I expect it to attach the file to the message.

Hi,
I've noticed a bug with the display of result list.
When scrolling trough results with keyboard, the list doesn't scroll down to show the selected item.

Steps to reproduce:
  • Search for something that has more than 9 results (or whaterver results are visible in the list)
  • Press keyboard down arrow to browse trough the list
  • Try to press down to select item that is offscreen (ie. the 10th item in my example)

The item is actually selected, but you can't see what is selected, because the list doesn't scroll to show the selected item.
If you now press the up key on the keyboard and try to go past the first item, the selected item is now the last item in the list, and the list scrolls to show it. When pressing up further the list follows the selected item.

So works for up, broken for down.

I hope someone understood my rambling.   :-[

Find And Run Robot / Display issue after latest update
« on: May 26, 2017, 02:55 AM »
Hi, after the latest update I noticed a small display issue with FARR.

Basically, after the first start the window looks like this:
395d781145334544858c4e1f87261ca5.png

After the first search, it resets back to normal, and then it works normally until FARR process is restarted.

Find And Run Robot / Using alias action keywords
« on: August 18, 2015, 03:12 AM »
I am wondering is it possible to use alias action modifier keywords but to use the selected file's directory as an argument for the action, istead of the full filename?

I have an alias setup to search my projects folder, only for sln files. This is my use case:

Input:
cc demo

Result:
C:\projects\MyProject\MyProjectDemo.sln
C:\projects\Other\DemoOther.sln
...

Now, I want to be able to append +cmd to the search string and basically the results don't change, but if I press enter on one of the results, I would get a command prompt open in the folder containing the selected sln file.

I've noticed yesteday that FARR hangs when i have %SPECIALSYS_DOCS% included (and activated) in the search folder list.
I assume that this was added in some of the newer versions, but I haven't noticed that it affected me up until yesterday.

I assume that something changed in the %SPECIALSYS_DOCS% folders themselves so the search is hanging.
I am wondering what actual folders and documents is FARR searching when searching this folder?
I did not find anything in the docs that relates to the %SPECIALSYS_DOCS% search folder.

Find And Run Robot / Plugin management not working
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:18 AM »
Hi,

FARR does not save settings regarding plugins. For example if I disable a plugin trough FARR settings dialog, the plugin remains enabled.
Also some plugins have additional settings (ie. Timer plugin) and changing those settings also doesn't get persisted.

I am running FARR on Windows 8.1. I don't have UAC enabled, and FARR is not running with elevated permissions.

Find And Run Robot / Live alias reloading
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:46 AM »
Hi,

I wanted to request a feature for FARR v3 that alias files can be reloaded on the fly, when I figured out that this already works perfectly in v2.
Now I can set up shared alias file between my home and work computer, and sync them automagically with Dropbox.

So I just wanted everyone to know about this feature and make sure that it stays in FARR v3 :)

Great work Mouser

Find And Run Robot / Aliases calling aliases
« on: November 22, 2013, 04:50 AM »
I am trying to create an alias that will execute commands in console and display output in FARR.
I am trying to reuse the builtin runcap alias for that.

I have an alias defined like this:
1000>>>Flush DNS>->Flush DNS cache | restartsearch runcap ipconfig /flushdns>+>flush

With this alias I have to press enter twice to actually execute the alias, and the search string changes after the first enter. Also the alias is not working without regex pattern.
I am trying to eliminate the second enter press and the search string change. I tried using dosearch instead of restartsearch but then the alias doesn't trigger (it just changes the search string to the alias name)

Also is it possible to this but to run the alias with admin privileges? When I try /runasadmin switch it just passes it to the runcap alias that in turn passes it to the ipconfig command and that just fails.

Probably I am missing something obvious  :tellme:

Find And Run Robot / FARR settings and "hide on focus lost" option
« on: August 12, 2013, 03:09 AM »
I have FARR running with Hide when focus is lost option turned on.
Only problem with that is that the FARR settings window also hides when focus is lost. Can the FARR settings window always behave like normal windows (or ignore focus changes)?

I noticed that the user variable value length is limited to 1024 characters. It is not a problem in itself, but it causes the Timer plugin to stop working when you have enough timers in the history.

This is probably not so much a FARR core issue, as it is the Timer plugin issue.

Quick fix is to set the timer::archive uservalue to an empty array, but it would be great if the plugin could handle this automagically.

Find And Run Robot / Launching win7 start menu items
« on: April 05, 2011, 02:26 AM »
FARR doesn't seem to be able to launch some of windows7 start menu items (ie Snipping Tool). When I launch it nothing happens.
Items like installed applications work fine.

It seems to me that the problem is that the shortcut target is %windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe. I think that the %windir% in the path is confusing FARR.

I tried using ShellExecuteEx as Launch method but then I got this error: Windows cannot find 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Snipping Tool.lnk'

Any ideas?

Find And Run Robot / FARR launch problem
« on: September 13, 2010, 11:29 PM »
Sometimes, FARR just refuses to call the plugin on execution.

For example, I invoke the Network Connections Plugin and get a list of available network connections. Now when I try to execute one of the connections I get an error message saying something like: Windows cannot find "No help available.". Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.

I am pretty sure that FARR is just trying to execute the path value of the result on its own, as status bar displays path of the selected result item and it says "No help available.", instead of triggering the plugin to execute the result.

I don't know what is causing that behavior but when FARR once enters that state none of the plugins that supply non-executable results work. And nothing helps, save FARR restart.

Any ideas?

Find And Run Robot / FSubScript plugins acting strange
« on: September 12, 2010, 04:04 AM »
When I invoke any of the fsubscript plugins from CZB pack that use html view (jscalc, timer, tableDataSearch...) it outputs itself as text, so you can see the source code in the result list area.

Other plugins from CZB pack are working fine. One more thing, the plugins are working fine, for example i type in "tm at 12:00 do something" the alarm gets set, but the plugin is displayed as text instead of html.

I've tried putting a new version of fscript but it just reports an error in the plugin. BTW, it is working ok on my work computer, so it is probably a plugin clash of somekind or something.

It would be very cool if FARR could access other application's menus, like Quicksilver for Mac does. I was looking through the window api a bit and there is a possibility to get window menus using window handle, but I was unable to make it work. I could see problems with getting the menus of some apps like Office 2007 etc, but what I am really interested is to make it work with at least Notepad++.

Ideas?

Can it be done so when user selects a file and types in + that all of available aliases and search modifiers be listed in search results?
Eg. I have an alias Zip that zips selected file. What I would like to see is: I select a file, then type in +, and a list of available aliases is shown, then I can select Zip from that list and Farr executes that alias. Then eventually, a plugin or something could be made to add all the context menu items for a selected file/folder to that list.

Additionally, can FARR become aware of what was selected when FARR was called? For example - I select a file in explorer and open FARR. FARR opens up with the file typed in the search bar.

Combined it would look like this. Click on a file - open FARR - +zip [or select from a list of actions] - enter. And my file is zipped.

Find And Run Robot / Context menu
« on: December 11, 2009, 09:22 AM »
Is there a shortcut key that goes directly to context menu of the selected item? Ie. right click on an item opens FARR menu, ctrl-r does the same. I've configured ctrl+# to open windows context menu. But, what I am wondering is: can I use something like ctrl+right click to open context menu?

Find And Run Robot / Weird bug
« on: September 18, 2009, 07:09 PM »
Today FSubScript is just not working anymore. As a matter of fact - FARR is not working because of it. A quick view at the logs showed that fusbscript is the root of all problems, so I deleted it and everything was working normally. What is weird about that is that it was working yesterday, and the day before, etc. And I haven't made any changes to the system (no new apps, drivers etc, no new plugins, not even my development versions - nothing) - it just refused to start.

Any ideas?

Find And Run Robot / FARR alt tab 2.0 beta
« on: September 06, 2009, 08:29 AM »
I've made some modifications to the FarrAltTab plugin (with permission from Vitalyb) to prevent opening multiple instances of an application. For example - if you already have Firefox open and you try to run Firefox from FARR, it will switch to an already open instance of Firefox instead of opening another instance.

Plugin idea and known bugs are discussed here.

This is still a beta because I currently have no time to implement options for the plugin but I still want to share it with you and maybe get some feedback about bugs and desired options and features.

Installation:
Go to c:\farr-install-dir\plugins\
backup FarrAltTab folder
extract the contents of the zip to that folder.
restart farr.
enjoy

Find And Run Robot / Custom context menu items
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:08 PM »
As I understand it, plugins can add custom context menu items, right? Can those menu items be assigned a hotkey? For example I want to add a delete command to context menu and assign it the Delete key so when I press a delete on an item that would cause some action (in this case delete a file).

My idea is for adding basic entries like cut, copy, delete and paste to the context menu, and more importantly assign them a keyboard shortcut for quick access. I know I could just click on Shell context menu and then copy but that's just not it.

Or should this maybe better be a core FARR feature?

Find And Run Robot / Enso - Another FARR similar app, but not quite
« on: August 26, 2009, 02:34 PM »
I just stumbled upon this launcher and i must admit that I like it. It is really different from anything I've seen before. I love the idea that it is displayed like OSD rather than a full app. And I can't decide if I love or hate the idea of Enso Quasimode. That is - it is active as long as you hold the modifier key.

Of course, it is not as nearly as powerfull as FARR but it has some interesting features. For example - the learn command. Basically, what it does is automating the creation of aliases. You open the app you wish to automate, or select text or something, and then activate Enso, type in learn <alias name> and you have a new alias.

Find And Run Robot / FARR html view
« on: August 13, 2009, 01:33 PM »
Is there an option to run some javascript to parse a webpage before it is displayed? For example I want to check the weather forecast from http://www.weather.c...veler/local/HRXX0005, but I want to extract only the relevant data.
Something like greasemonkey for FARR :)

Find And Run Robot / Fsubscript doesn't play well with others
« on: April 14, 2009, 03:16 PM »
I have noticed that if Fsubscript plugin is running, i can't scroll down the results in Process Kill, Network connections, or KlipKeeper plugins.

For example, I activate the ProcessKill plugin by typing in "kill", the list of running processes shows up, and when I press down to pick a result I get this:

error1.JPG

Note that if I just press enter in the input text box (without pressing down to pick the results) the first result activates normally. I can even execute other results by adding text to filter them out until the desired one gets to the top so I can execute it with just pressing enter. If I disable Fsubscript everything works as expected, and with Fsubscript active there is no problem with my other list displaying plugins (Calendar and Clipboard).

Any ideas?

Find And Run Robot / What happended to Ctrl+Alt+Enter?
« on: March 18, 2009, 04:13 AM »
For some time now (last version or two, I am not sure) FARR will not launch all results on Ctrl+Alt+Enter. Am I doing something wrong, or is there an option that I accidentally turned on/off?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / FARR displaying html code in results
« on: January 10, 2009, 01:27 PM »
Mouser, is it possible to display html code in result window? I am trying to make a copy of KlipKeeper plugin that will display html and remove white spaces from the clips when displaying them. But html code doesn't show. For example i copy "<head>", and all that is displayed is blank space. If I replace < with &lt; then "&lt;head>" is displayed.
