Living Room / Cheat Sheets for Developers
« on: September 24, 2014, 04:47 PM »
This may of  interest to some....
http://blueblots.com...wnload-cheat-sheets/

12 Websites to Download Cheat Sheets

A cheat sheet is a short and clearly written notes, using a few words as possible to give the necessary information. In other words, the notes are compressed in order to be brief. Well, that’s cheat sheet literally, but in internet language, a cheat sheet is a list of shortcut tools used on the web to achieve a specific task. There are many computer applications that have included cheat sheets in their documentation. Keystroke or menu of commands serve as a reminder for web developers to make their work easier because it will help them save some extra effort from looking into the entire manual to search for the keystroke required to execute a command, like for example locking your window.  :)

Use this Free Utility to Help Make Your Windows Files Easier to Organize and Find

Posted: 03 Sep 2014 03:12 AM PDT

"Do you have a lot of personal files on your PC? Want help keeping them sorted? One useful way to help organize them is to tag them in various ways with metadata. In Windows Vista and up, only a few file types normally allow their metadata to be edited. However, there is a free program called “File Meta” that allows you to add tags, comments, and other types of metadata to most files in Windows 7 and 8.x."

Here's a chance to get PO'd and frustrated for a couple of days and then experience great relief  :D (Better than Rolaids )

It works in Win8.1 but it takes a couple of days to index all your files with any new meta-data you add. They don't mention that when you sign-up  >:(  Set it up with any additional file types that you want additional tags added to the Properties Sheet and then "WAIT", yeh, wait  :o
You also have to customize your Menu bar to show any categories you want displayed, along with Name, date modified, size, etc.
and you also have to wait
It bugs the hell out of me to set something up and then have to wait two days to find out if you did it right  :(
It works  Give it time  :D

Living Room / Free eBooks
« on: August 16, 2014, 10:29 PM »
http://kebooks.com/2...-deals-sat-aug-16th/

There was a discussion in another thread about free ebooks but there's information here that may interest people outside the U.S.A..
I don't know if this is a change, a big change, or even of interest to anyone.

There's lots of info in the page but at the very bottom is some info regarding people outside U.S. signing up for free ebooks, depending on the country where you reside. Some countries are listed by name and there's also an International area.
I get an email every day listing free ebooks and you can also get the list by genre.
If you sign up, I would suggest you select the genre you're interested in, but get a list for each genre. Scrolling through a long list of book titles every day where you may find nothing of interest gets old fast. Sometimes if I'm busy I delete the whole list without a glance  :-[
To get the free books you need an ereader for your PC program. All free, take your choice  :)
You need an account at Amazon... also free.
And a warning........... the list is daily and the books may only be free TODAY. When you select a book it opens in your Amazon account where it also shows the current price. If it's not shown as Free don't select buy unless you're prepared to pay the listed price.
Clear as mud but if you have questions or need help reply and I'll try. I've been getting the How-To list for a long time and I've accumulated a sizeable library  :D

Living Room / HDMI vs Football
« on: August 15, 2014, 09:40 AM »
I had planned to spend the weekend researching HDMI cables, trying to clear up questions remaining in my mind, but Google comes up with over 7 million hits. A little much for one session so I checked the TV schedule to see how I might break up the study session.

Apparently we're coming up on the "football season" and since I don't know anything about football I turned to Google again for some answers. I found this explanation which seems to sum up the game and it only takes 5 or 6 minutes to understand it.
I don't mean to interrupt your research time but if you need a break this video may answer any questions you have about football.

I studied this article carefully

Found Deals and Discounts / SharewareOnSale newsletter
« on: August 09, 2014, 11:00 AM »
http://sharewareonsa...k-powerdirector-sale
Here's just one item on a long list and again to give you an idea of what it is and a sign-up option.

Many of the giveaway sites limit the time you have to download and install a program but in many cases this one doesn't!
GiveAwayOfTheDay for instance requires you to download and install to register a free program. I don't really want a partitioning program installed until I intend to partition something and SoS emails the product key so you can install when ready.

The sign says ShareWareOnSale but many items are free and you pay a fee for lifetime updates if you want them.
I've never paid for anything there........ the giveaway always seems to come around again before an update is necessary.
YMMV
Give it a look.. 8)

Living Room / How do I boot from CD/DVD/USB in Windows 8?
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:14 AM »
"This is actually a pretty common problem that has recently become more complex.

Your computer’s BIOS needs to be instructed to check for a bootable CD or DVD before it tries to load whatever is on the hard drive. Right now, your computer is configured to either ignore the CD/DVD at boot time or check the hard disk first.

Oh, you don’t have a BIOS? You have a newer machine running UEFI?

Well then things get more complex"

As more people move to Win8 and beyond this question will be asked more often.. ask Leo, I'm busy!  :D
