thanks a million too!

[BugFix] Hotkey option to not clear search text was not being obeyed.
about this, er...i don't mean to be an ass/idiot, but how do i disable it now, lol. i have gotten used to farr showing historys on toggle because it's surprising faster instead. when i untick windows option>when using hotkey to focus window, don't clear search text, it still shows my last inputted text.

sorry for the trouble, mouser.

another area where farr is great. u set it to portable mode in your config file, and everything you need are all in 1 folder. your configs, serials, program files and alias.

in fact, there's no need to even install farr, which is a huge huge plus.

how do you tell them apart? there must be some clue for you to determine if it's a shortcut url or not.

I was able to give preferred links higher scores by putting them all in alias name "*". It's a little troublesome if u have lots of links to add. But add them as they appear, and it shouldn't be that hard.

sorry then. that's a first for me. all my internet shortcuts end with .url. Those ending with .lnk are just file/folder shortcuts for me.

edit. oh. i manged to make a internet shortcut with the lnk extension, like "c:\firefox.exe" "www.google.com". no idea how to filter out these then. sorry.

There seems to be a plugin callback to resolve the link, which one can code to filter out web address, but that's beyond my league. The second way is to manual exclude ".url" from search with "-.url", or give a very low score to .url extensions so they appear at the bottom through pattern scoring, or -9999 to exclude it. The third way  is to put all your shortcut urls in 1 folder and exclude the folder.

I believe the pattern scoring method should be the simplest.

ops. sorry. guess i have a spelling disability. Farr it is. No offense, Mouser.

i have a lot of files named xx-01, xx-02, xx-03, yy-01, yy-02 and so on. i often want to launch xx-01, then xx-something, then yy-something, u get the idea. I don't really need the history list as much as the history of inputed text. I gave the alias "h." with results "dosearch historys -h." to bring up the historys, and ctrl+up to retrieve the last search text, so it's not really a big issue. Mouser has made Farr so great with all the possibilities that I've officially switched over. And I wonder why i've only heard Farr until now. Sorry for that.

Thanks a lot for this again.

edit: changed faar to Farr. no offense, Mouser.

I have a folder, say "e:\downloads\" which is assigned the alias "dl". Now, i want to do a folder search. When I input dl in Faar, the folder appears, I press Alt+Right Arrow to make the input box switch to the path. However, there's a additional space after the path "e:\downloads\ ", which prevents Faar from recognising it as a folder path when I continue typing. How can I resolve that other than manually doing a backspace? Thanks.

edit:
found the solution with dosearch & tab. thanks for the great software, mouser.

edit2:
even better with dolaunch restartsearch. thanks a million, mouser.

ok. just wana thank you again Mouser. after some poking around, Faar works exactly like launchy now and more. The "second-guessing" nature is just as good, memory usuage is a little smaller, and things seem to work little faster with history and search string history tracking and less to type.

Still, if the text input box could remember our last inputed text, it will be even faster. I wonder what I did wrong there. It still keeps going blank.

Thanks!

oh, i sure have. thanks a lot for the help.

Thank you so much for the response, Mouser. with your advise, Faar now works the way I need it to, and perhaps even faster once I get used to it - the use of search folders with modifier keywords + history (ctrl+up). Plus, the keywords typed automatically appear in the search box, saving me time typing all over again for the next search/launch. Thanks a million.

I also tried out the portable mode. It works beautifully.

This is a very fine application/folder launcher indeed.

i heard Faar was way better than launchy and here i'm. Strangely, I couldn't get Faar to remember my last entered text despite having the option "don't clear search text" ticked. The input box keeps going blank.

May I say a few fair words for launchy, if the author don't mind. The "second-guessing" nature of Launchy is very very misunderstood. In Faar, the use of keywords to launch something is very explicit, done through alias. U must first instruct Faar. However, in Launchy, the use of keywords to launch something is both implicit and explicit. We tell launchy the folders where they can guess, we type in something, and it gives us the nearest match it can find. After the guessing, launchy remembers the keywords in it's ini file, which users can edit (but is never taught to users unless one pokes around). This part works the same as Faar.

I like Faar. It seems to work very fast. Now, if only I can get it to remember my last inputed text.

Oh, I would really appreciate it too if Faar doesn't add the small registry entries to remember the registration dates.  I'm a sucker for self contained portable designed softwares that doesn't leave registry entries and files in other folders.

Thanks for this great software!
