Necessity is said to be the mother of invention.  I wonder if this could produce the next super hit! 8)

Permanent = well, you know what it means...
Latrine = a military word for the "privy" or camode...
Orderly = a low-ranking enlisted person, usually involved with the menial tasks.

PLO or Permanent Latrine Orderly was a fictitious job that was created by a not-so-scrupulous sergeant in "No Time For Sergeants" to keep a particular private from causing trouble, get the potty cleaned up and get a decent nights sleep.  The movie is kind of zany, but it's fun.

Ok, what's the next question?

Living Room / Cinematic Abbreviation Trivia... just for fun :D

Anyone have any movie trivia that is particularly interesting... just for fun?

Ha! a fellow sailor that has the courage to try to get on a boat designed to sink!  :D  I actually never qualified, but I sure tried!

Welcome Pyr8!

Developer's Corner / Freeware EULA Addendum
« on: January 11, 2007, 03:18 PM »
Here's something I came across, but I can't remember where it was?    Oh well...

"Freeware" is software you do not pay for, ever, in any way.
  • It is not "Shareware," which you eventually must pay for.
  • It is not "Nagware," which tries to get you to pay for something that was originally offered as though it was free.
  • It is not "Crippleware," software that perpetually tries to annoy and tease you about features only enabled in the commercial version.
  • It is not "Adware," an increasingly popular form of software that is actually a vehicle for advertising, and that is much like the modern Internet itself.
  • It is not "Spyware," a sleazy kind of program that opens a channel of communication between your computer and someone who wants to know what you are doing.

FYI - this is something I copied somewhere, so give him/her/them the credit, not me. :)

Oops!  I forgot to ask if this was connected to the RONCO VegWeb-a-matic?   :P

Call now!  Operators are standing by...  :D

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions, but be careful... you might be surprised when you see the real numbers! :o

959
Thanks again for the help.  I wonder if there is a way to make them work like one would expect.  Things like this in software always provoke me to wonder what they were thinking?

960
I'm sorry to see you folding on this, especially when so many others you know share my sentiment, but I won't attempt to dissuade you from your decision.  You know best.  I will tell you that you remind me of how I sounded when I rolled my truck (fuel tanker).  I was very discouraged.  I wish I could have sent that day to the recycle bin because my boss has never spoken to me since that day.  Neither I nor anyone else was hurt, but once I my boss realized this things were heated.  I was actually pretty disappointed because he was such a wonderful owner to work for and I hated messing up his day... and his truck.  I sure could have used your app that day!

961
Ok, am I missing something?  I created the boxes and I applied the "Labels," but it doe not look like anything moved.  Most curious?

962
Thanks for heads-up!

963
Hey Mike!  Ever had a crack at the *new* UE Studio?  I'm curious as to how it adds, if anything, to the standard UE?

Site/Forum Features / "Labels" in the PM area... what are they for?
« on: January 10, 2007, 01:45 AM »
Can someone tell me what the "Labels" on the PM page is for and how to use them?

TIA

The real acronym goes this way... Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. <CT winks at f0dder>

Maybe an exploration into the world of coding would be most instructive and helpful?

I might want to participate.  Will I have to be interviewed by the head bird?

Ok...here it goes I am Carroll from the Oldest Town in Tennessee, USA.  There is a little research for some of you...I am an amateur radio operator and have been a licensed one since 1998.  I also like programming simple stuff, website graphics/designing, and a few other things.  :)

My Dad was a ham.  WN5TOE (originally, WB5TOE way back when...)

BASIC: Beyond All Sense, Incomprehensible Crap. Donald Knuth, iirc, has quote where "BASIC" and "brain damage" go together. Yes, fortunately today's BASICs are less hideous than the original ones, but it's not something you should touch unless you have to (ie., VB required for a job).

I agree the BASIC on the old C64, TI994A, etc. was arcane, but the Emergence BASIC that Mike has crafted his fine app with and I'm really getting excited about is a whole new animal.  For me, it has made programming fun again.

969
Ok, right... I thought I just didn't know how to read the instructions on the Redhat box. :P

@Josh  -  Solid!  :Thmbsup:

@Zaine  -  The architecture of programming itself is really very simple. Read >> Process >> Write.  The only difference is really just syntax, so pick your best (most comfortable) language and have at it and see what happens.  Does that help?

Ah! Yes, I've used the venerable Proxomitron before.  Worked great too.  I can't recall why I ditched it?

Wordstar is a very powerful writing tool once you can master it.  The ability to never have to let your fingers leave the keys is huge.  I can only type about 18 wpm (with errors), so I am no great ad for it, but I do understand the value.
