ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander

Ah!  You are right, it is Mmm (I actually purchased the license to Mmm+ back then for my XP), I stand quite corrected.  No, I am running Windows 7 now, and do have FileMenuTools (and now I see that quote from Mouser - no, I didn't all of the thread; guess I should have!).  But what can take the place of Mmm?  ContexMenuCommander is a good name.

Screenshot Captor / GoTo last captured image
« on: October 05, 2012, 03:30 PM »
Salvete!  If I capture an image and then open the editor and rename the image from there, the image gets renamed okay, but then it gets lost from the editor, and SC loads a different image.  As I have lots of images in that directory (30-day cleanup...), it is hard to find the image again in the scrolling file list.

Here are my suggestions:
  • Fix it so that when an image gets renamed, it remains focused in the editor.
  • In the GoTo menu, add "last-captured image".

Also, I would like to add a global hotkey that will display the editor with the last captured image.  I like to take a lot of screenshots that get autonamed and autosaved and autocopied to the clipboard, that way I can paste them immediately into an email in Thunderbird.  The files are there if I need them.  However, sometimes, after the capture, I need to add little circles or whatnot to the image.  So I have disabled the option of capturing that you get on single-clicking the tray icon - that way I can double-click on the tray icon to open the editor.  I would rather single-click on the tray icon to open the editor, however.

For this, I suggest that it be added an option to open the editor to the last-captured image, and to add this option to the "hotkeys" options in the settings window.

Thanks for listening!

Salvete!

I have two instances of firefox open which I've started using the profile manager.  My problem is that if I take a screenshot from instance #2, which is not the default instance, the auto-name gotten by Screenshot Captor is a name from the other firefox instance - which means that the autoname has nothing to do with the image I am capturing.

Example
In Firefox #1 (default), I've a tab opened to panda bears.
In Firefox #2, I've a tab opened to chickens.

I push the printscreen button and draw a box over one of the panda bears.
The screenshot gets captured and saved with the name of "screenshot_chicken.png".

I've a related problem due to firefox instances on the browser-tray-switcher application.

Ha!  FileMenuTools does most of the things named here.
I say that if you REALLY wanted to call a program "ContextMenuCommander" that you would be able to create subgroups of *existing* context menu items inserted by other applications.  There is an application that does this called, "Mmmm" - no joke, that's its name, but it lets you edit anything in the context menu.  It has a free version and a full version.

Thank you for answering.  Yes, I did miss that Mozilla KB page.

Salve!  I, too, am very interested in this.  I use two firefox profiles - one for browsing and one for development.  And I use the addon called "ProfileSwitcher" in both profiles.  What that does is that it always pops up firefox's "choose profile" dialog that asks me which profile I want to launch.  It also gives me a toolbar button to allow me to launch another profile - but it doesn't do anything at all about which instance is the "default browser".

Now, whichever profile I launch FIRST on the system - that one will be the default "Firefox".  And if you go to settings and tell ANY Firefox instance to check whether it is the default browser, each and every one will say that it is already default.  The system's "default browser" is only for the browser, not the instance.

This may be a useful link for this thread as it refers to some registry settings.

So I would like to choose which instance of Firefox is the "default browser" via this nice Browser Tray Switch.

I created a thread for this at SuperUser.  We'll see if anyone comes up with an answer!

[I originally posted here, but nobody ever answered... I guess the thread was too old].

Also, it seems that the "default instance" is controlled by Firefox in Application Data\Firefox\profiles.ini.  There is an ini entry there for "default=1".  Problem is that you seem to have to restart all instances of Firefox...

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / Re: NANY 2010 Release: ClipTrap
« on: July 14, 2012, 03:01 PM »
Skwire,  It happened again, and this time, I did some testing and narrowed it down to the point where I can successively reproduce the failure.

The GUI is fine as long as it is running, but if there are too many characters in clip.txt when ClipTrap starts up, the GUI fails to load completely - the application starts, and it still captures, but GUI doesn't function right.  (I have some screenshots I can email to you if you like).

So, to reproduce the GUI failure, close ClipTrap, create an empty clip.txt file, and paste "some string in this here line" (without the quotes) till you have 14922 lines of that phrase.  ClipTrap will start okay with this.  Now close ClipTrap and add one more line to the clip.txt.  When you restart ClipTrap, the error should happen.

Now, I don't think it has to do with the number of lines - that is, the number of carriage return/line feeds.  Because, if you take those 14922 lines + 1 and join them so that you only have one line, ClipTrap will start okay - but if you duplicate that really long line so that you have two lines, ClipTrap *won't* start.

So, it is just the GUI that has issues when it starts.  If it is already started, you can have millions of lines in your clip.text and it is okay.

Anyway, there are a few ideas to play around with.

Sure, I will do that.  Sitting behind a fancy firewall-router, I am not too concerned for security, so I like having ClipTrap on all the time.  That is an assurance when I am writing code.  Thanks for answering.

Hello, Skwire,  I am using Windows 7 64bit, and ClipTrap 1.1.1.  ClipTrap used to work, then it stopped, and I am getting this error:

Error: Can't create control.  The current thread will exit.
Line#
249: Gui,Add,Edit,xm ym+25 w505 h200 Wrap HScroll hwndText_hwnd vText_edt,Block

Oooo- I figured it out - I had copied a bunch of aspx code - html and css - before it broke.  After I cleared the clip.txt file, it worked again.  Sorry, I wish I had saved a copy of clip.txt for you to look at...

Thank you!

No, the image isn't for my order; it is a symbol for the Blessed Virgin.  Our web site is: http://www.sspx.org.

Thanks, Mouser!  I have actually been poking around here for a long time.  My profile shows I joined in April 06, 2008!  It is actually from Skrommel's apps that I took to learn AutoHotkey, which I use in my actual work.

Salvete!  I am a Catholic Religious Brother stationed north of Kansas City in the USA, and, aside from my religious duties, much of my work involves computers - graphic design, programming, tech-support, IT stuff.  A "brother" is like a "monk" except that, instead of living in a secluded monastery, he lives with the priests and assists them in their work.  I happen to be stationed at the headquarters for our religious order, so my computer knowledge is of benefit to the entire order.

Flat out, I love programming.  My first language is a little-known language called BCX.  However, I also code in AutoHotkey, .NET (vb), Powerpro, and javascript.  I think I am going to learn the syntax for C#, however.

Being a religious brother, I have the three vows: Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience, so whatever I do must be approved by my superior.  Likewise I have no income, and all my time and mind is devoted to the Church.  However, sometimes I make applications to aide my own work, and as they may be valuable to other people, so I am interested in sharing, and have no mind to make any money doing it, hence my "introduction" here in DC!

Salvete!  I am requesting a feature to be able to capture the mouse cursor during a "Grab Region" procedure.

Preliminary Notes:
  • There is already a mouse delay feature, and the user is able to set a custom delay time.
  • The standard capture delay happens *before* a capture.
  • Using this delay time is of little or no value for a "Grab Region" procedure, since it only causes the user to have to wait before he can select the region - what good is that?
  • There is no convenient way to capture the mouse during a "Grab Region" procedure, without some combination tricks.  (See https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=29580)

However, the delay feature may become useful for "Grab Region" if it affected the grab *after* the user selects a region.  Then the user would have time to move the mouse back into the region for it to be captured.  Now, I think the "region selection box" should be visible during the time of delay, that way the user doesn't have to guess where to put his mouse.  Then, of course, the box goes away at the end of the delay and the capture is made.

I am proposing these changes:
  • Change the way "Use Delay" works ONLY for "Grab Region".
  • Move the delay for "Grab Region" to *after* the user draws the selection box.
  • Leave the selection box visible until the delay ends.
  • Leave the "Capture Cursor" option just the way it is.

Thanks for your attention!

Thanks, Ath, I'll do that straightaway. 8)
https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=29593

Also, I understand exactly why you used the double screen grab procedure.  That way you don't have to do any cropping - you just have to remember where your grab-box was.  It's 6 one way, half-dozen the other. ;)

Well, there is already a delay feature, but I have tried that, but it just delays before allowing you to select the capture region.  A delay before manually selecting a region seems rather unprofitable, maybe if "Use Delay" affected "Grab Region" differently.  Perhaps with "Use Delay" enabled (using the ms paramter's value), you could select the region and *then* the delay would come into play, which is what I think you are suggesting.  But my point is, that this could be how the delay actually should work with "Grab Region".  Does that make sense?  (Please imagine that I am speaking very humbly)

hm, I've (just a few minutes ago) captured regions with cursor on FireFox 9 without hassle (select a region, then repeat last size & pos moving the cursor inside the region the second time), but then I'm on Win7 (x64), so that might be the 'solution'?

Hmm...  Maybe I am inept....  I think I understand now.  I'm sorry, fellows, I assumed that SC would capture the cursor too with Grab Region.  It never occurred to me that it wasn't the case, so long as "capture cursor" was enabled.  After y'all's comments, I figured I must be missing something.  And, well, now I know I was.

It seems like a lot of steps: Start Capture Region, select region, discard image (I use the popup), reposition mouse in the invisible location (where you have to remember the bounds), and then "Repeat Grab" and then accept the image (with the popup, again) - all to get a grabbed region with the mouse cursor.  Maybe this could be an option, therefore?  To me, it seems very intuitive to "Grab Region" and get the mouse cursor if "Capture Cursor" is enabled.

Thanks for y'all's comments - now I understand what is happening.

I updated the nvidia driver to vga_driver_nvidia_xp32_285.66, but the problem persists.

@mouser, but the mouse cursor disappears immediately when I push the printscreen button.  It dissappears even before I select any region.  Really, I'm not so inept, however, as to complain that the cursor isn't being captured in a place where the cursor didn't exist. :tellme:  I know I am capturing the area where the mouse cursor was.  However, since I updated the nvidia driver, I find that I can't capture the mouse cursor at all in a select-region command.  But it does capture the mouse in window-capture mode, and whole-screen mode.

Okay, you got me there.  I am using driverzone to find drivers that need updating, and discovered there is a newer version.  I'll try that and see what happens.
