Description
Being a coder/programmer I often need to view the icons inside of a dll or an icl file.  I have tried all sorts of icon viewers and there are a lot of them, but none of them did everything that I wanted, or else I found them klunky in one way or another.  So, in the end I built my own which works exactly the way I want it to.

What I wanted most of all was to complement my particular workflow:
  • Quickly open a library (either by drag-n-drop or commandline)
  • Quickly fetch an icon's position
  • Quickly extract an icon if I want it

Features
  • Designed to be Quick and Easy
  • View icons at 16x16 or 32x32
  • Easily and quickly switch between libraries
  • Common Libs menu:  Keep a library of often used icon libraries
  • History List: Keep history of viewed libraries
  • Open the library in your favourite icon library editor
  • Open icon libraries in Iconus via commandline, drag-n-drop, file-browse
  • Get detailed information on each icon in the library
  • Easily extract any icon in the library
  • Easily fetch the icon's ID

Planned Features
  • Option to associate file types
  • Update the help file with commandline info  (I forgot)

Usage
Installation
To install Iconus, simply extract the contents of the zip file to any folder.

Using the Application
Designed for the sake of the ease-of-use in fetching an icon's index from .exe, .dll, .icl, .ico files.
You can open files via drag-n-drop, commandline, or file-browse.

Uninstallation
How does a user uninstall the Application?  Just delete the files.

Known Issues
The History List can be a little quirky; it still needs a little work to tune up, but it works for the most part.

General Software Discussion / DIY Control4
« on: October 31, 2015, 08:25 AM »
Anybody here have a Control4 Home Controller System?  It uses windows software called Composer to manage the system.  Normally you need a "dealer" who sells you a system and sets it up for you, and once you're in, you have to call them every time you want something added/changed.  Well, my dealer was quickly unreliable and so I decided to figure out a way to get control of my own system.

I'm interested to hear if anyone else is in the same situation.

And.....  there is always Fungus!

I am still waiting for someone to do this!

Mr. Unlimited Bacon made an Android app out of, but never completed it; it works, but you can tell it isn't finished.

I just wanted to say that I use this program on my server to back up all my network's windows workstations.  It is wonderful!

General Software Discussion / Re: The Hostile Email Landscape
« on: October 19, 2015, 07:46 PM »
I have hmailserver installed and it works VERY well for a full-fledged mail server.  But I discovered that my messages were being bounced by the other recipient domains because I did not have reverse DNS configured for my domain.  That was an issued to be solved with my ISP.  We ended up using a Google Apps domain anyway so the problem became moot.

Oh, I just noticed that Skwire said the same thing...  hahahhaa

I provision a LOT of computers and my policy is to never release any machine with less than 6GB RAM.  Of course more is better, but that is my bare minimumum.  If I handle a computer with less, then I always upgrade if possible.

407
Exactly.  That's why I have 24GB!

408
It's true!
My machine has 24 GB RAM.  Once I reached 16GB there was no more performance improvement.  But I am able to run a lot of things at once (like virtual machines, for example) without dragging the system down.

So aside from a better processor (I have an Intel i5-2500K) there are only a few ways to get more performance:
 - overclocking (which is possible with my processor)
 - switch to an SSD (not possible in my case to replace my 1TB with an SSD drive)

So there is a third option, however, that is inexpensive.  I picked up a 160GB SSD drive.  Then I enabled RAID in my bios.  Then I set up Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) that uses RAID for a certain kind of cache (not the Page File - this is different) - so it used half the SSD drive.  Since I had the other half, I put the page file on the other half of the SSD.
This boosted my computer's performance by about 20% and the effect was immediately noticeable!
Sure, this will wear down the SSD over time, but I'm storing no data there - only temporary caches.
I also made sure to use a new high-end 160GB SSD drive.

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: sChecklist
« on: July 10, 2015, 05:19 PM »
Skwire,  I have autosize columns checked in my options, but if I have an entry that is too long it gets trunkated even though I have the gui window big enough.
I would expect it not to trunkate if the GUI is big enough - so the autosize columns needs to resize with the GUI.

Well, I *was* using ImageShack before but then they changed some of their rules and since I hadn't paid, my trial expired.  Now I can't upload anything anymore.

How can I add imgur?
I don't see any way to get that into the built-in settings...

411
Mouser - I was looking, but I don't see imgur in the Service Options - only ImageShack, which isn't free anymore - that's what made me look at shareX.

If you go to Preferences > Tools > Online Uploading
and click the Visit ShareX Site to Download button
You go to a page pointing you to another page.

In other words, we need to update the link from
http://code.google.c...moved?project=sharex
to
https://getsharex.com/

413
Okay, I've updated it to version 1.1.
Now it has several commandline parameters and an option to toggle the tray support.
Please see the accompanying chm file for details.

414
Aha!  No, not yet.  However, I have that on my todo list.

I am also conteplating a popup that can show some more image information (if you have dragged an image) - including the bit depth.
Also, I'm going to add an option (via commandline too) to disable the tray support - that way if you use it via commandline then it will stay hidden and not show.

That will be in the next version as soon as I can get a chance.

415
Oh yeah?  Well I use XnView, and it can too!
Actually, I originally made PixCalc to be just a calculator, so I could take the pixel sizes and figure out the print sizes (hence pixels to inches) - that's why it's called Pix - Calc.
Then I realized how easy it would be to drag-n-drop an image and load the values automatically.
PixCalc is just a calculator for lazy people like m who don't want to do math to figure inches...

416
Ah - I figured it out.  It was a typo in the releasing code....   :-[
But I've updated it.
Please try it again for me!

417
Hmm..  I didn't know it would lock the file!
You can exit by using the menu for the icon in the system tray, or by pushing ctrl+Q (see the help file for keyboard commands).
I'll look at the file-locks and make an update.

418
Hello, all!

Here's a little program that would have been better for the NANY.
I made it for myself, but I like to share (for free), so here it is!

It is a handy dandy calculator for converting pixels to inches or centimeters and vice-versa. You set the dpi, height, width of your image and it will give you immediate results and automatically copy them to your clipboard. You can also drag-n-drop images onto PixCalc and it will read the dimensions and dpi for you.

It comes with a chm help file.

Thanks, ayryq - I'll try that one.  I've tried a half dozen already, but not that one.
I'm using RSS Builder at the moment, but it doesn't work the way I'd like.

Hmm...  I guess nobody has any ideas?

422
Skrommel - I concur with anandcoral - since you were so kind to post so many autohotkey scripts (source and all!) - I too used your work as a launching board for learning autohotkey.   Now I used autohotkey ALL THE TIME and I don't even have to always look up the API anymore.

So I thank you, too, Skrommel!

423
That long, huh? :)
Hello, everyone! Still alive, just life bitchin' me...
Joby!  I didn't know you were here!
Joby_Toss and I are beta testers for FreeCommanderXE.

Mouser - I wasn't in the list!  :P  And I get all the rss feeds.

424
What about a page of ongoing freeware links related to category,
but JUST the list with a hyperlink - no descriptions, no clutter - maybe some stars for a rating - but that's ALL.
Maybe something like the "Alternative To" site.
There are lots of top ten lists, and there are lots of freeware sites, but there isn't any singe BIG simple list anywhere.
The freeware sites are never all-inclusive.
Just an idea.

Living Room / Re: How to use a pantograph for duplication?
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:51 PM »
@bit Hey!  I HAVE that book!  I've read it, and I've taught art too.  There's a lot of true things in that book.

I produce a childrens' magazine and have a section called "Aspiring to Scribe" where I've gone over calligraphy and drawing.
So I wanted to show them how to make a pantograph.
Myself - I've never needed a pantograph.  I can draw anything.  I can draw the pantograph.  I can even draw the pantograph in use!
I just can't draw the pantograph duplicating because I can only get it to enlarge.....  hahhahahhahaaaa
