General Software Discussion / Re: Which MP3 tagger do you use?
« on: November 05, 2007, 07:48 AM »
I use AudioShell for audio tagging and integrates into Windows Explorer. You can edit tags from the Properties dialog, under the Tag Editor Tab. Great for quick editing.

On Vista, I've noticed the same type of problem, as stated above, with ZoneAlarm when the computer loads. Sometimes I see only half to just the title-bar of the application.

I use it and find it to be very decent for a program that is free. It also includes:
  • *ButtonMaker- Create Buttons
  • *IconMaker- Create Icons
  • *ImageMaker- Take Screenshots and Edit them
  • Batch Converter- Convert images to different formats
  • PDF Tools- Create PDFs from your Help files

*Uses new Office 2007 Ribbon style

For these programs, see the HelpAppsx Menu or your program installation directory (C:\Program Files/vahelp/)

I know that ZipGenius has an option to encrypt a zip file and also create an application:

Also See Help Topic:

Can you zip the file and encrypt it?

tinjaw,
I am seeing the same thing on all of the programs (LaunchBar Commander, Screenshot Captor, and FARR). My font size is normal.

Nice Find. This is exactly what I was looking for, in terms of a good program to make collages and prints with multiple photos.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Evrsoft First Page 2006 Reviewed
« on: June 27, 2007, 12:18 PM »
The nag screen is there because it was available for purchase. Now as it has been abandoned, there is no way to purchase the program, and there are no limitations in this version.
If you can stand some of the bugs (I have, after dealing with worse), it's not a bad program.

I already use and like KompoZer for visually editing sites with CSS. Possible New Mini-Review coming for KompoZer.

I use MyWay. It is operated by the company that owns Ask.com. It's not bad, although lacks some features. I would recommend it to a person who just wants a simple e-mail account.

Wubi has appeared on the DailyDownload Blog at Download.com:

Computer giant Dell made big news yesterday when it began shipping desktops and laptops pre-installed with Ubuntu, a popular Linux distribution. I'm not sure who the heck is going to buy a Linux Dell, but it certainly marks a sea change in retail computing.

Living Room / Re: Why don't you pay for software?
« on: May 23, 2007, 07:27 AM »
I don't usually pay for software because there are too many frere/open-source programs that do exactly (and sometimes more) then the commercial alternatives. This comes to mind, mostly with graphic programs and VB.NET components for GUIs (I develop free software).

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox
« on: May 16, 2007, 08:49 AM »
I like and use Firefox because of the add-ons, open-source, and not being made by a giant software maker. IE7 has some improvements over IE6, but still I will use Firefox.

And the Update process is easier. No IE6 > IE7 upgrade fiasco...
http://www.ie-vista....om/known_issues.html
The installer removed existing files, the installer failed, then did not put back the files it removed. I lost every IE component. System Restore then did not run, as it runs on IE. I ended up just re-installing Windows XP. The reason why this happened is that ZoneAlarm was installed... IE7 eventually installed with the new re-installed system. I was smart to install it before ZoneAlarm.

Go Firefox! 8)

The following are free scren capture programs:
Three Programs I use
* DebugMode Wink at http://www.debugmode.com/wink/- Flash output, the best for free. Only one listed in this post, that provides nice editing features
* AviScreen Classic at http://www.bobyte.co.../AviScreen/index.asp- Creates AVI screen captures
* CamStudio at http://camstudio.org/- produces flash output

Also DonationCoder does have a review about these tools at https://www.donation...enCasting/index.html
Note that Wink 1.0, not the current version, is reviewed

I just found out yesterday. I re-downloaded the freeware version at Download.com. I do not see many enchancements (for me, at least) over the previous version.

If you are still looking for the freeware version, search CNET's Download.com for FastStone Capture, and see where it shows license: it should say Free. Edit- link: http://www.download....361.html?tag=lst-0-1

Of course, I will usually use Screenshot Captor :)

Some Ideas:
* OpenOffice.org Impress is an excellent presentation-maker. It can save and open PowerPoint presentations, and has many PowerPoint-like features. A Screenshot is shown below:
ooimpres1.png
... Animated Demo: http://www.openoffic...t/flash/Impress.html
... Get it at http://download.open...org/2.2.0/index.html
* Create a flash animation using a free program: Liveswif 2.2 at http://liveswifers.org/. The tutorials will help you with creating an animation.

* Create a show using PowerPoint, and capture it using DebugMode Wink (free video-screen-capture program) at http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

Some ideas...

Living Room / Re: Microsoft takes on the free world
« on: May 14, 2007, 09:02 AM »
Watch some users decide to use Windows, instead of Linux (I use a Live CD & like it), due to the claims. It takes one company to ruin/destroy it for everybody. Personally, I do not like Microsoft, but I have no choice.

Resource bloat is the wrost, your computer slows down, and then the Low Virtual Memory message appears. The programs I think of, with this is: some Roxio programs, and old versions of Norton Antivirus.

I usually don't care about the numerous features... All I want is that those features just have some purpose.
