Developer's Corner / Re: Help with Delphi Console Keypress
« on: December 21, 2006, 06:05 AM »
I can't get past the 255 error.  Like I said, weird.  Frankly at this point I may have to punt and press on with my old VB5.  I know that pretty well, but I was hoping to get my feet into Delphi.  Well, maybe later I can try again.  I can't wait too long, though.  My trial license of Turbo Delphi is only good for 98 more years! :P  Thanks to All for the help.

Thank you.  I will give it a try and get back.

BTW - Can you tell me why any string def I use will not allow more then 255 chars?  This even happens when I declare the following...

var
      Longstring: AnsiString;

It's supposed to take 2GB, but I keep getting the error saying it can only have 255?  Weird.

Alright, no console.  Anyone else want to chime in?

I was looking to test out an app idea with the Delphi Console Keypress (or whatever it is) and was interested in some opinions.  The reason I want to use the "console" is because it is a game for the blind.

Thank you, Ruffnekk.

@mouser - I wonder if this click-reveal idea could be used on the self-installed badges?  BTW - is this still something being worked on or is it out?

1034
Wow, Mouser, just imagine if you could get only a single dollar per year from each one!

Excellent!  Thank you Andrey and Cody!

1036
I PM'd you... I'm good!

1037
Oops, I forgot...  There might even be some form of tangible reward, via "Cody Credits" or something like that.

I would like to see some form of "Kudos" we can click on in every post, both positive and negative.  They are completely anonymous and can only be entered once for each member.  Democracy in it's purest form.

The whole architecture causes one concern.  There is no way an entity that has this kind of tentacles can be good in the big picture.  This is why Scroogle was initiated.  I use the Scroogle Scraper as a search engine substitute.  Works great!  They keep an eye on Big "G" and reports on the unsavory activities.  Check 'em out.

Me too!

Being realistic, I don't believe I will ever be a good enough programmer to be employable by a company, but I can possibly be good enough in time to be a self employed shareware/donationware programmer and earn enough to cover the necessities of life.
Here's hoping... for both of us.

So... which is it?   ;)

Ha!  I wonder if I just coined a new buzz word for growing old.  Anyway, I am interested in getting back to coding, but I want to do it with my eyes wide open.  I can muster the discipline to work hard, but I don't want to kid myself *IF* something is out of reach.

I liked coding and development years ago and maybe that would have been the best time to learn C or C++.  This would have been a simple thing to learn way back when. I am frustrated with myself for not being able to grasp things as quickly as I used to. It's frustrating to see kids that I inspire, pick up a book and 6 months later have more knowledge than it took me to learn in 2-3 years.

I was wondering what non-programming tools different folks use for programming?  Anything you use to help that is not your IDE or actual coding software is game.
Thanks!

Does anyone know where is a good site for royalty-free sounds and sound-effects?

1047
A "D" language!  Who would have thought.  Thanks for the link.  I just wish I had the background you heavyweights have in order to make a intelligent evaluation.  In the meantime, I will press on with my TI99-4A. (Just kidding)  :P

1048
What compiler are you using?

1049
Thanks for the input.  It seems that you also take a great deal of care in coding "right."

I have heard some things about VC that I am interested in taking a look.  I have thought about using an older version since it can be had pretty cheap.
