General Software Discussion / Re: Program to move/size windows
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:06 AM »
AutoSizer - Freeware

WindowSizer - Shareware

ZMover - Shareware

AutoSizer is probably the one you want.

And for manually sizing windows for those specific dimensions you may not need all the time, but want access to quickly, use Sizer.

ClipX is also a very good free, and lightweight clip program. Be sure to get the stickies plugin though.

I'm a hard core ClipCache user, but I find ClipX much more suited for graphics work as you can see the thumbnails from the context menu.

 :P Opera nerds!  ;D

I tried Sumatra for about 30 seconds and deleted it. It failed to render the first PDF that I opened. I doubt I'll ever try it again. Anyway, I hate PDF and wish it would just die. Nothing there that couldn't be done in an archive using HTML (afaik).

331
They're not the same at all. I use KeyPass and it's much better than KeePass. Not sure how anyone could confuse them...although I often see people mistakenly referring to the latter as KeyPass too often. It's kind of like how no one on the internet seems to know how to spell definitely.

332
It has a some other features (which I have already in DM2,LClock, & the new Tray It! released a few days ago) and uses less RAM, but Taskbar Shuffle has the best of the features and is a more finished product. XNeat is very rough around the edges (imo).

333
This looks similar to Taskbar Shuffle, which I currently use. I'll download it and compare it.

334
I have it. I call it "my brain". It allows me to do amazing things with Firefox.

335
Here's something I thought I'd never have any use for....until now. ;)

Thanks

I do something similar using Locate.

I use SlickRun and type find, search, or locate and then the terms and in about 3 seconds I have my results. I don't know if you can do this with QTToolbar. Would be cool though.

Yes, it's search as you type, and it does exactly what I need it to do. If I need a more in depth search, I'll turn to my indexing program which is extremely fast and lets me work with files exactly as in explorer anyway.

I have a download folder with hundreds of unsorted ebooks for example. Sorting these will take several days, if not weeks. Typing in a certain title and having only those items shown will save major time and make sorting them much more enjoyable.

Concerning features, there are probably more coming, as these products seem to be in current and active development and have had a few very recent revisions.

No, it doesn't slow explorer down at all. Trust me, I would notice. :)

I always like GIF Movie Gear myself and still use it quite often. No gimmics, just a program for animating GIFs.

My avatar was made using GIF Movie Gear.

Well, if people would check it out they'd realize they can customize it, even change the buttons. It's fully skinnable. You don't have to have more than one line of tabs or an entire other toolbar.

I think it looks pretty decent myself, I hate cluttered toolbars.

This is pretty damn cool. I'm surprised no one has commented yet.

The best part isn't necessarily the tabs, but all the little tweaks that come with it.

Living Room / Re: help with dvd
« on: April 07, 2007, 07:02 PM »
Get a program that can extract rar files. WinRAR, 7-Zip, Universal Extractor, etc...

Extract them to a folder, you will see a bunch of files like VOB, IFO, etc. Just burn them on a DVD. Hopefully your DVD player will play them, if you're unsure, it's probably better to try burning onto a DVD-R as some older players only play those.

343
No Ken, it doesn't. It was just a fluke incident.

General Software Discussion / Re: Virtual registry

Closest thing to what you want: Software Virtualization Solution

Homepage

Doesn't store reg keys in a fashion that you want. You'd have to create a loader for every program for that. It does restore the original registry to it's prior format after unmounting the programs you have loaded into it though. It would come in handy for extracting registry info for a particular program, but you would have to backup the original registry and then the modified one, THEN compare and extract the modified portions into separate registry files. You could leave these files separate or merge them all into one file.

Having too many fonts will slow your machine down. Not a good idea!

If you want that many fonts, you should keep them in another folder other than the system fonts folder and use a font manager similar to Font Xplorer (now free) to load fonts only when you need them.

General Software Discussion / Re: Virtual Drive Pro
« on: April 04, 2007, 05:27 PM »
You can get CureROM and many others for free that do the same thing. The Makers of MagicISO give away MagicDisc, and Slysoft has Virtual CloneDrive.

I personally use Virtual CloneDrive mostly to mount iso images that I have backed on DVD's, but quite often to play games too without having to load discs, or to test images before burning them.

You could also replace it with MaxView, Curt. You could even just unzip the portable version to test it out.

Again, like Windows Desktop Search, there's better alternatives! (IMHO). Unless the thing is actually used to view faxes, lol.
