Living Room / An ode to my failed disk drive
« on: September 06, 2014, 08:36 PM »
A drive with bad sectors galore
Won't store data, not a bit more
So I attempt to format
And then toss in my hat
As I throw this damn drive out the door

It is the same way MiTM is conducted on firewall appliances like Palo Alto or A10's thunder series. You have to do some form of MiTM to sniff SSL traffic.

It sounded quite different in Murray's blog.

Notice, Murray posted on his blog that they hoped to release whatever product he was talking about by the end of July. Jeff didn't bother replying to the month long topic until the 29th leaving users to create more speculation about these vague announcements.

They announced AM5 to be released this Summer. Looks like winter now.

Actually, Jeff made it quite clear on their forums they only announced the release of the FREE version of ad muncher this year, not Ad Muncher 5.

Living Room / Current web-based RSS readers - What is your pick?
« on: August 10, 2014, 08:54 PM »
So, with Google reader long gone, and many products having time to develop themselves, what are currently the top picks that everyone is using for news consumption? I am only looking at web-based solutions, not desktop.

Because they are a company and need to set up things first.

Like the features they've been "setting up" for the past 10 years?

Living Room / Re: SPAM reaching epidemic proportions
« on: July 30, 2014, 04:27 PM »
I haven't seen a legitimate spam message in...6 years now. I love it!

no illegitimate spam either? :D :P

PS how come?

I use Google Apps and setup "groups", aliases, for various services I use. Each email address is for a specific service (mortgage, bank, specific ordering site, etc.). That way, I know which sites are selling my info if I receive a spam message over it.

That said, since moving to this (and previously fusemail) and the alias system, I have seen NO SPAM since starting it :) I am quite happy about that. That said, I do have a "catch all" alias that attracts everything else from my domains.

And now the plot thickens: Jeff is stating that v5 is NOT COMING SOON

He waited over a month to reply to the thread on their forums with this info. Sounds like v5 is still a ways off...if at all...

It appears they are still sending out "renewal" notices to customers on yearly plans. The emails DO NOT mention that their product will soon be free.

Why does this seem unethical to me?

Let me just leave this here: Linux users are super villains

Running as administrator allows it to run on Win8.1.1/x64, but I receive errors such as "index out of bounds" or no results being shown in the search window.

Mouser, add the following line to the cpanel.alias file

         <Result>Network Connections | %windir%\system32\control.exe ncpa.cpl /ICON=NetworkSharing.ico /winvermin=6.0 /winvermax=6.2</Result>

I think my biggest issue with this, aside from the whole potential advertisement of third party products later on, is that the only way this information has been disseminated is via Murray's blog. Why is this information not on the Ad Muncher front page? What about an email to previous purchasers? What about a newsletter being sent out via the list I signed up for previously? My thought is that it is because they want people to continue to buy licenses for v4 until v5 is released. I can understand this from a sales and business perspective, but the problem with that is that there are people making a purchasing decision based on incomplete information. What happens to the guy who buys a lifetime license a week before the product goes live? OK, they have a 30-day refund policy, but what about someone who purchased 31 days prior? What about the casual buyer who does not check the forums to see the topic, of which there is no OFFICIALLY POSTED topic, that the users have created regarding the announcement? If I were a new purchaser who found out the product is now free after dropping over $100 for a lifetime license, I would be EXTREMELY pissed and would demand a refund.

Just my two cents but this announcement should be on the product homepage or should have been withheld until he was ready to not receive new orders.

General Software Discussion / Re: Product Key finder needed
« on: June 27, 2014, 10:20 PM »
Key Finder as in what key is currently installed on your system? If so, you only need it for office 2013. Quicken does not use product keys.

http://www.magicalje...ybean.com/keyfinder/

That can recover the key used on an existing installation

saurabhdua: I am the one who created the cpanel alias set. I attempted to incorporate the "God Mode" links, which are essentially direct DLL calls to open specific pages on a given form, but was unsuccessful. I've managed to recreate a few of the links but the problem with the God Mode folder is that the links contained in it are not standard lnk shortcut files. They are special shell calls to specific functions.

That said, I think I can add in your "Network connections" folder link and will publish the file I am working with at home. I had the same requirement and just forgot to give it to mouser to re-package into FARR. I think this will solve what you need.

More to follow when I get home tonight.

Our good friends at Hidden Path Entertainment have hooked us up with a truckload of beta keys for their upcoming sci-fi tower defense game Defense Grid 2 to hand out to the Dtoid community!

Following on the success of the 2008 original, DG2 looks to expand on the original in many ways, including user-created content, an updated pathing system, and some very pretty visuals. To try the beta out for yourself, just head on over to our code giveaways page and click the button! (You must be signed in to your Destructoid account first, obviously.) Then, code in hand, just load up Steam and activate the code there. Easy peasy!

Have fun!
