Does this look right? The percentages and stuff look strange - https://getmydeck.in.../s/US/512/1626478593

Oh, so you'd already reserved it. I thought you just reserved it.

General Software Discussion / Re: The End of the Atom Editor
« on: June 09, 2022, 07:40 PM »
Oh, and it just occurred to me that Microsoft bought GitHub a while back, so I guess it would make sense that they'd kill Atom in favor of VS Code.

In this case, I don't think it's in favor of. Atom stopped getting updates before that deal IIRC.

I use N++ for ad hoc editing, VS Code for projects that I don't want to open VS2019 for, and for non-project stuff, like writing, note taking, and web sites and such, and VS2019 for project related stuff that compiles.

General Software Discussion / The End of the Atom Editor
« on: June 08, 2022, 08:14 PM »
I tried it back in the day, but didn't find anything better than Sublime Text... then I started using VS Code, and it was better than both. I guess a lot of people had similar experiences.

Today GitHub announced it will archive Atom and all projects under the Atom organization for an official sunset on December 15, 2022.

Did anyone else use Atom?

I'm assuming you read the content into a string and that's what the content variable is as that's not specified.

Find returns the location of the first occurence of the string. You then have to use that to read the actual string. The -1 means it was not found.

Synchronize It! and Compare It! - superb GUI design, I still use them to this day for small simple jobs - one can still buy them, they still work, but unfortunately not upgraded for many many years. Synchronize It! can even copy sparse files, which is extremely rare.

Have they been forgotten? I thought they were still being sold? I use them all the time.

Seeing that the 512GB is $650 and the laptop I'm looking at is ~$1100 and will run the same games+ with the only difference being 256GB instead of 512GB is what's making me look at the laptop option.

So you're going to possibly purchase both the 64GB and 256GB?

I've been thinking about it still. Trying to decide between getting a new laptop and this. The laptop costs more, but would have more applications.

Ah! The Charismatic Voice channel! One of my favs. Elizabeth is an utter gem in addition to being a knowledgeable vocal coach. She just recently released her own album.

Not too hard on the eyes either.

Agreed on all counts!

Really like Home Free. The solo stuff by the bassist is good to- all of them Avi Kaplan, Tim Foust, and Geoff Castellucci

I'm looking for a text editor that does auto-completion for markdown links (that is, filenames) in the same project? This must exist, but I haven't found it.

Visual Studio Code with the Foam Extensions does this. I have it running currently.

I might pass on this. Have to think hard before August comes.

Just read a thread on reddit that threw a dash of cold water on the purchase. Not because of the device, but taking a hard look at my use case.

https://www.reddit.c...mdeck_after_a_month/

I don't travel, I don't commute, and I have a good gaming PC. Add to that the fact that I'm gaming a lot less these days, and it's starting to seem like a FOMO situation rather than the device being something that fits me.

General Software Discussion / Re: WinPatrol appears dead

That's the thing about it- WinPatrol combined a few products into one. Still running it, though I am going to take a look at the suggestions in this thread.

Someone bought the same bundle 😉

I think a lot of us did.  ;D

I don't have any specifics, but a lot of them are just going to be sitting there. If Deo and 4wd are out of something, ask me.

I hate that April Fools is a thing. I hate even more that it's become something that companies buy into.

In case anyone else is wondering, the problem was the assumption on the path.

I added

Code: PowerShell [Select]
  1. $outPath = (Resolve-Path odata.xml).Path
  2. # saves odata.xml in your current working directory
  3. $xmlConfig.Save($outPath)

and it started working.

Thanks for your help!

146
The problem with that is that I don't want that node, I want the parent variable node so I can update the development value. I was under the impression that wouldn't help me, but I'll try it.

So I tried it, and it did indeed give me the subsection I was looking for- how would I then get the development subnode to change it?

And thanks for the help... this has been stumping me for a few days.

UPDATE: I think I found out how to modify the node, but even though when I expand it shows the node as modified, when I save, it never gets to the file.

Code: PowerShell [Select]
  1. [xml]$xmlConfig = Get-Content "odata.xml"
  2. $validNodes = $xmlConfig | Select-Xml -XPath '//variable[id="odata-keys"]'
  3. if ($validNodes.Count -gt 0)
  4. {
  5.   $validNodes.Node.development = "0"
  6.   $xmlConfig.Save("odata.xml")
  7. }

What am I doing wrong now?

Developer's Corner / Searching and updating XML file in PowerShell
« on: March 22, 2022, 07:54 AM »
I have the following bit in a Powershell script:

Code: PowerShell [Select]
  1. [xml]$xmlConfig = Get-Content "odata.xml"
  2. $validNodes = $xmlConfig | Select-Xml -XPath '//variable' | %{$_ | ?{((($_.Node.Property.Name -eq "id") -and ($_.Node.Property.Value -eq "this-is-the-node")))}}
  3. if ($validNodes.Count -gt 0)
  4. {
  5.     $validNodes.development = $encryptedcredentials
  6. }

And it's not returning valid nodes, even though the node is there.

The XML file looks like the following:

Code: Text [Select]
  1. <configuration>
  2.   <variable>
  3.     <id>this-is-not-the-node</id>
  4.     <development>2</development>
  5.     <staging>0</staging>
  6.     <production>0</production>
  7.   </variable>
  8.   <variable>
  9.     <id>this-is-the-node</id>
  10.     <development>2</development>
  11.     <staging>0</staging>
  12.     <production>0</production>
  13.   </variable>
  14.   <variable>
  15.     <id>this-is-not-the-node-either</id>
  16.     <development>2</development>
  17.     <staging>0</staging>
  18.     <production>0</production>
  19.   </variable>
  20. </configuration>

I want to select the valid node, then edit the value for development under that node.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Whereas mine used to say "After Q2 2022" it says "Q3 2022" now. That might not seem more specific than before, but for some people, they see "after Q3 2022" so that tells me I can expect to get mine sometime between July-September.

There was a converter from what we had before to what we have now, and the timeframes, and your assumptions on July-September line up with that.

149
Though I use VS Code (and Sublime Text, though vanishingly as VS Code has gotten better), the one I really like lately is Deepdwn. I'll have to try to give an overview of why when I get a chance.

It seems Valve have released an official library compatibility checking page here:

Nice! Doesn't seem to pull all of your library though...
