Chrome changes it when a video plays but will return it to 15 when you close a tab or such.

LaunchBar Commander / LBC changes ClockRes
« on: December 19, 2014, 06:14 PM »
I was reading a article about apps that change the clock-res and it hurting battery life on laptops and the sysinternals guy has a clockres checker.  I ran it and mine was changed.  I realized that starting / stopping LBC changes clockres.  Neccessary?

If I know a station name or ID or URL of RSS or XML, is there any way to bypass this list?

Sorry, I mean it won't download the list of stations at all.  I have it marked in firewall to allow.  It puts "An error occu" in the State dropdown.

Is WSW still working OK?  Mine can't download any station info.

The suggestion to turn off 'launchbar on top' was a life saver.  I was going insane.  Of course, first I had to figure out what was stealing focus.  Stopping things running in tray until problem went away.

LBC must steal focus and immediately return it.  I noticed most during alt-tab or typing in some modal dialog.

yes to "want the text box where you can type the name to be preselected".

I'm so used to the idea, attached is what explorer does on create new folder.  I usually just start typing and that seems to make new blank tree items somehow.

I've learned to hit the save button regularly, so I can kill it and still have everything.  After a restart of LBC, I of course dragged over 4 file links with no problem.  The overall problem seems to be that adding 10 or 12 things at a time drives it nuts.  So when you try it again later its fine.  I'm in the phase of trying to create my LB for the first time, so I'm doing a lot of additions.  I think the adds will be less now.  Every time I've crashed it, I try the exact last thing again, and it works.  It needs the whole sequence to foul it up.

If you ever have a version of LBC that has extra logging or diagnostics, I be happy to run it.

They don't look very informative but I attached a couple of .wer.

Side note: tell you what would be a lot less frustration, when I add an item, be it menu or new command, it would be really nice of the "new command" or "new menu" was selected so you could just start typing the real name.

LaunchBar Commander / Error building treeicons
« on: August 20, 2014, 04:17 PM »
This happened twice - both times I had dragged a link to a file over.
link for one was: %envvar%:\Documents\entries.txt
link for other was: file:///E:/Files/Internet/Setup-Current.html

Once that happens, I can't save tree, and I have tree set to auto-save, so everytime I try to exit I get second error message.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Problems showing hints

Any news here?  I have no hints except on the top level items. I see the lower level hints if I use the tray menu.

@mouser, the 'different small dialog window' would work.

If I was going to suggest a workflow, it would be:
- hit a hotkey
- dialog appears with a list of the 10 most recent clips
- select one by clicking on it
- or type a few chars to filter and get a different (filtered) list of 10.  Ideally, I could just start typing to filter (not have to hit ctrl-f or click in an input box to give it focus)

Whatever's the easiest way for you to do that (or least impact way for other users) is fine with me.

And thanks for discussing this.

You are saying when the 'quick paste popup' appears and I type a char, you won't know whether it's meant to select a row or be the first char into the filter/search box?

You are absolutely correct - those are 2 different workflows.  And you don't want to break the existing workflow.  I've never been in the habit of using the number of selecting clipboard item.

Would this work?  Add an option to designate what gets focus when the popup appears. 1. the list or 2. the new search input box. If #1 was the default, that would maintain the current workflow.

for me -- it doesn't seem to work.  Using BTS, I made IE be the default yesterday and have rebooted machine.  I run BTS today and the IE icon is in the tray, but my default browser is still chrome.  Clicking on a desktop URL shortcut starts chrome.

If I get a chance I'll see if I can try this on a Win7 machine - make sure I understand the process and see it work.

15
Maybe someone who has used it can tell us something.  I hadn't used previously so I didn't get to see it work.  I made 2 different browsers be the default, got the 2 btsregfile files and when I do the tray switch, the icon changes, but it doesn't seem to make the system refresh. i.e. when I start a browser and make it be the default (via the browser menu), usually I see the desktop icons refresh, and so forth. But when I use BTS, there's no obvious change.

In ethervane, after I type a few chars, the one I want usually ends up at the top and an "enter" will paste it it.  If more than one result remains after filtering, and the one you want isn't at the top, a double-click on the desired one will paste it in.  CHS seems to paste with a single-click -- even better.  Either way, the popup is dismissed after the paste.

I really like the filter row concept.  The other two apps I mentioned just haven't been as solid as CHS for me (after a while DB gets corrupted, ...)

Thanks for considering this.

BrowserTraySwitch / Does BrowserTraySwitch work on Win 8.1 x64?
« on: July 22, 2014, 09:40 PM »
I'm not having luck.  It makes the .btsregfile files, but picking a different browser using the tray icon doesn't seem to do anything.

Clipboard Help+Spell / add filter row like ditto or ethervane
« on: July 22, 2014, 09:34 PM »
For me, CHS, even with all the great features, just isn't usable -- without a filter row on the popup. This allows me to quickly select from previous clips that match the filter.

There's a lot of programs (photo viewers, folder size calculators, ...) that take a folder path as their argument.

Screenshot Captor / Re: screenshotcaptor and delay option
« on: December 05, 2013, 04:04 PM »
OK, I see that.  2 questions and thanks for your quick replies

1.  there is still the first point -- that the grab active window doesn't include the menu.  Is that expected?

2. Regards the grab selected region, I see 2 behaviors depending on whether how I trigger the capture.  If using hotkey or quick-capture-bar, the app loses focus somehow and then the menu of course goes away.  If I use the main window menu to trigger, it works OK.

Screenshot Captor / screenshotcaptor and delay option
« on: December 04, 2013, 08:19 AM »
I thought the 'delay' option would be good to capture an app's window and show the menu dropdown.  But after pressing ctrl-prtscrn, SSC begins 4 sec countdown, I go and drop down the app's menu, SSC wakes up and captures app window but menu isn't included.  Is there an option I missed?

Another thing that seems backward to me:  if I use 'delay' and capture-region, it waits 4 sec and then I specify region.  I would have thought I would specify region, then the 4 sec countdown would start

When I put a WinSendKeys command in a TCC batch file, the shell changes the window title to append the currently running command. So now the windowname string I specified after the -w switch is also on the TCC console and WinSendKeys sends to wrong window.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Text capture limits
« on: July 24, 2013, 08:55 AM »
On CHS options, capture options, there is the section (upper right) labeled "Text Capture Limits".  For me, the 3 checkboxes are disabled.  The input boxes are live, though I can't put a number > 9999 in for plain text, but I can put in anything for Richtext.  I was copying a plain text web page and CHS doesn't put the text into quick-paste menu.  If I select half the page and copy, it does.  So seems to be a limit issue.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Quick Paste Menu improvements
« on: July 24, 2013, 08:46 AM »
Regards the quick paste, the one thing I mess from "Ditto" is the ability to type a few characters at the bottom of the quick paste menu and filter out non-matching entries.  Same thing as you do in main window but do it in QP as well
