I have a bucket containing about half of these, sitting on the table. I think I'll just eat all the Mounds. They are not on the list. :D

I don't think so. It looks to me like it's a 'shopped image of a loaf of wholemeal bread.

I just stumbled upon this rather Irish website today - Waterford Whispers News. The opening para on their "About" page says it all:
WWN was launched and created by Colm Williamson in September 2009 with the noble aims of  extracting the urine from everyday news and media events...
(The British vernacular for this is "Taking the piss", which is a characteristically British use of humor as a levelling tool and to poke fun at something.)

They have a "Random Article" button. Here is a random selection of some rather droll articles. Nothing is sacred:

The standard of piss-taking seems quite good. Reminds me a little of the somewhat anti-capitalist anti-bullshit anti establishment Scottish group Chumbawamba who produced some brilliant and often beautiful songs and music which not only took the piss but also were making cutting (sometimes cringingly so) socio-political commentary. If you are unfamiliar with British humour, then you might not get some of their music. When you do get it, you will find that some of it is not very pleasant at all to the people/objects they (Chumbawamba) deride/despise. (Still probably well worth a listen though.)

In the US, they were a one-hit-wonder, with this song, introducing Americans to the phrase "pissing the night away", which we mistakenly thought meant something else.  ;D

Curious. What did people think it meant when they first heard it?

Generally, Americans think that pissed = angry

My mate lived over there for a while in Berkeley, he got a bit drunk one night and when one of his American friends asked him how he was going he said, "I'm pissed."
His mate went all quiet and went over to my friends wife and asked what he was angry about :)

Unless, of course, they take it in the literal sense in which you'd need a very big water tank ;)

In this case, it was taken quite literally. And since that seemed too weird for a lovely female voice to be singing about, many thought she had to be saying something else, and white washed it, interpreting it as "dancing the night away", even though it doesn't sound like she is saying that at all.  ;D

pissed = angry
pissing = urinating
mate = wife, girl friend, significant-other or procreation
friend = bud, buddy, chum, pal...
torch = acetylene, blow torch or set something on fire.

Hunh.  That wasn't what we thought when we heard it (we being my "mates" and I).
To us, "pissing," coupled with some reference of time, followed by "away" meant wasting time.  Thus, "pissing the night away" meant we'd spent the time regretfully doing nothing of value.

I'm with AzureToad on this one - the "ing" form is far different than the "ed" form.

I'll also suggest there's a lot of drinking involved, because that's known to make you ______ a lot! But that also tends to be what most generic parties involve, aka having a good time mixed with potables, so it could be a triple word play that they were partying, and having a superficial good time (except maybe for the 9th beer!), but ultimately squandering deeper things of life.

When I and my friends first heard it, we thought the woman was saying "kissing the night away" but when it was pointed out that it was saying the other words, it didn't make sense and it had to be taken literally: as in "urinating all night long" which still didn't make sense, but that's what she was saying.

Brit. vernacular:
On the piss = heavy drinking (usually beer, which makes you pee a lot).
Getting pissed = getting drunk.
Pissed drunk - utterly drunk/wasted.
Pissed off = annoyed about something.
Pissing the night away = regular boozing/alcohol abuse.

The song seems to be about the booze culture of Brit. youth and how they seem to have been conditioned to waste their lives boozing in bars most of their spare time, brain numbed and poorer for it. Yet behind it all, they may still have an indomitable spirit and a kind of aggression. Futile existence.
Sadly, a lot of NZ youth seem to follow a similar pattern.

pissed = angry
pissing = urinating

Here's it's all about context and/or inflection.

pissed = drunk, annoyed, angry
pissing = urinating, getting annoyed, getting drunk, wasting time
mate = pretty much anybody (generally males though), friend, not friend

Where was that awesome rant about Daylight savings time and programming, where the final answer was "just use the open source subroutine and don't mess with it"?

I ran into this in a big way today getting ready for a live podcast!

It's a funny video!  :D

Speaking of Daylight Savings time ending and causing weird issues, my husband worked tonight, over the 2AM mark when the clocks changed back. If the clocks had not changed, he would have clocked out at 2:30AM, but since the clocks had changed, his time slip says he clocked out at 1:30AM, but doesn't say which 1:30AM it was (1st or 2nd). So now his manager has to submit a list of everyone that worked tonight and clocked out after the change, so they all get an extra hour's worth of pay manually added to their paychecks.  :D

Drat... I'm a few posts behind on the British English stuff, but hey, I'm sure you'll excuse me as I'm half pissed. :P

To add into the vernacular there, I have a few Ozzie favourites. Root & cunt.

The Seoul Women's University cheer leading team is called the "Seoul Women's University Rooting Squad" or "SWURS".

Root in Ozzie English means "to f**k".

Root for your team? Oh... hell yeah! ;D GO SWURS GO!

Cunt is a common word in Ozzie English for "fellow" (or similar). e.g. He's a decent cunt. It doesn't have near the negative connotation that it does in American English.

Yep! It's indeed a funny video and thanks App for finding it! That was the one I was thinking of, but in a raw Youtube search I couldn't recall it was "computerphile".

And yes, the madness is just like your husband went through. To cap it all off, letting the cat out of the bag, I watched a live telecast of grandmaster chess commentary this morning, through all that stuff I mentioned earlier. To cap it all off, they told the commenting grandmaster the wrong start time! So he had to get up two hours too early for nothing, and was barely holding on with coffee! Meanwhile, I now had to add the "adjusted wrong start time" to my previously mentioned fun!

I just gave up and watched Rubik's-Clone puzzle videos for three hours waiting for it all to shake out! But at least my clocks are changed now!

PS. Wiki says one reason they changed the fall switch was to purposely kick it past Halloween to give kids more time to trick-or-treat!

(Homer) mmmmm ... little kids candy.... (/Homer)

Tom Scott / Computerphile is great. Great comedic timing for what he presents.

Here's one where he and a friend had a silly little joke on a park bench ... and it spirals out of control into being an "App"!
