Just to see MORE.

Icons are often useless and only take space which could be used for text. Console has no icons and we happily use it, so why are we forced to see pixel piles when mousing?

16 pixels is relatively small, but when you have fonts size 3-5, that's a relatively hefty lump of pixels gone to waste. Especially vertically, you could fit a lot more data on screen without this size limit.

To hide Desktop Icons:
1- With a registry hack
2- Using Active Desktop
3- Download IconDesk, HideIcons or Iconoid

To have smaller Icons:
um... Good one. Litestep has some desktop modules that may allow small icons but that's going a little beyond shell tricks.

Personally I use PowerPro for a whole slew of things, hiding desktop icons being one of them. The downside is you don't have access to your Recycle Bin.

Can you confirm that Litestep tip, screen shotties? Any Explorer replacements that let you dispose of the ever present Icon?

First of all, Litestep does not give any desktop at all by default. You have to load and configure a desktop module like Desktop2, jDesk or xDesktop. Desktop2 does not allow icons anyway.

Perusing the documentation, I could not find any desktop modules that let you have icons smaller than 16 px but xDesktop allows text-only icons. ;)
