this version is cool, tchikien.
i like the newer, leaner context-menu..

New                                                           Old
Teleport-context-menu.png                                              Teleport-context-menu-old.png

btw, using the hotkey "Ctrl+Alt+Shift+H" the main window appears behind all other programs.. i kinda prefer it prefer to appear focused.. ;)

Thank you very much, this is indeed a great tool. Would it be possible to add multiple folder support to the program ?

:) Made a gui to my previous post and changed the name.

MoveOut - Make rules to move files automatically.

Features:
- Rightclick the tray icon to configure
- Choose Settings to change rules and options
- Choose Enable to Start or Stop all the rules

You'll find the downloads and more info at 1 Hour Software by Skrommel.

Use it to make a rule that moves files from the desktop to a subfolder, based on file type, part of a filename, or whatever. Have it ask to replace existing files, or rename them. It can also ignore files.

Log Monitor might also be able to do what you want:

Try this for an amazing freebie: www.flexigensoft.com - ActualDoc.

I also couldn't get log monitor to work - file corrupted?

I made the search log function in case you have a long log file and want to find somethings you copied before.

tchikien when a program gets this developed, you need a web page and pad file for it so people can discover it.

you need to add some screenshots to that web page!
and then make yourself a pad file and submit it (we still need someone to write a nice tutorial on that),
and then add a donation link so people can donate to you..

Skrommel, thanks for all your great work.

I think you urgently need to post a warning (at least) on MoveOut's home page until several potentially dangerous issues are resolved.

1. MoveOut should NOT be enabled by default. Someone who downloads it should be able to see what the rules are before it starts automatically moving files off the desktop! That's a little too helpful IMHO.

2. But even more serious: it does not check that the destination folder exists, and if the folder does not exist, it renames the target file to the destination folder name. Not all users would figure out what had happened. They would see a new un-typed file named "Desktop" on their desktop and delete it, then later realize that they were missing a file from the desktop (and not be able to find it in the Recycle Bin).

Using AHK 1.0.44.14 (will update it now)

:tellme: MoveOut is set to start disabled, you can change this in the setting, but I've decided to add an extra confirmation dialog when starting MoveOut in an enabled state. Try v.1.1.

How about running the moveOut routine once in a while using the windows task scheduler...
Does it have any command line options to allow that? and quit cleanly after that, or send email/log if errors occur?

i think this is a brilliant idea!  i also prefer to keep running processes down to a minimum especially since i already have the overhead of windows scheduler running at all times which should do the job nicely.

also, i am experiencing a bug.  when i click "browse" to specify a source/target, i am only presented with a dialog box saying "press ok to continue".  i'm running the compiled script because i do not have ahk installed atm.  any ideas on this?  has anyone else experienced this problem?  i am running a spanky fresh copy of xp sp2 so it seems unlikely that i am experiencing a conflict with another program.

:-[ Uh oh, I actually forgot to put in the code! There's nothing there but the messagebox!

 :) Try MoveOut v1.2.

About the command line, I'll get back to it. I'm having trouble running MoveOut on Vista, seems there's some limitation in AutoHotkey. Looks like I'll have to recode the whole app...

@ skrommel:

that fixed it.  works wonderfully btw - with a few tweaks, you could turn this into a nice "log monitor" replacement!

p.s.
did you happen to notice the last post on your barnacle thread?  it's my comment but i thought i would quickly mention it in case you don't monitor that thread anymore  :)

BUGS
1)
But even more serious: it does not check that the destination folder exists, and if the folder does not exist, it renames the target file to the destination folder name. Not all users would figure out what had happened. They would see a new un-typed file named "Desktop" on their desktop and delete it, then later realize that they were missing a file from the desktop (and not be able to find it in the Recycle Bin).

Like this person said! This hasn't been corrected! This is very serious because it leads to data loss! No program should lead to data loss.

2) Adding multiple items to Files filtering. "*.jpg,*bmp" doesn't work!

3)When the user closes the window and opens it again, the columns are resized to show only the first letter of each column. The window itself isn't resizable!

I had very highs hopes for this program but it very poor error handling makes this program very dangerous!
Thank you for your time.

Adam Pash @ lifehacker.com just released Belvedere - an "Automated File Manager".

You may want to post a comment about skrommel's MoveOut and tchikien's Desktop Teleporter.
