version 1.0.1.8 is released:

  • now, when you click "Click here..." in the MyPrayers textbox after clicking the New Prayer button (or using the corresponding menu selection), the focus goes to the Author textbox, to help remind you to enter an author's name.
  • now, upon successfully saving a prayer to file, the textbox to the right of the "Update" menu-item updates to reflect the new number of prayer files in the MyPrayers subdirectory of your My Documents directory, and their combined size.
  • made the Font associated with PrayerInfo results of Search bold, for easier reading and greater emphasis
  • widened the toolStripTxtFileInfo control from 100 to 150 pixels, to accomodate a longer string when the  number of text files and the associated combined-size descriptor string grows longer
  • changed frmVersionHx form (which contains the textbox that displays the Version History for the application) to FormStyle.FixedSingle
  • now, when you check for an Update, if an update is found, the program first checks to see if you are working on a new prayer, or if you've modified a loaded prayer. If so, it warns you that you'll lose this data if you proceed with the download and program exit. The program presents this warning, with an opportunity to not proceed.

it would be nice if the "Author" field would become highlighted when tabbing through all the fields.  The cursor goes into the text box but it doesn't highlight or erase "Your name goes here...".

v1.0.1.9 is released!

  • txtAuthor field gets its text highlighted whenever the control receives focus, to help draw the user's eye to that control, in case author info needs to be entered.
  • extra whitespace in txtTags is removed after a prayer file has finished being loaded from file.
  • you can now check the checkbox located below the Begin Search and Dismiss Search buttons, in order to search within the actual prayer itself in each file, rather than by the associated author and/or tags for each prayer file. Any prayer files that contain the search-phrase will be added to the search listbox. If you double-click on one of those listbox items, not only is that prayer file loaded, but the first occurrence of the search-phrase is selected.
  • extra whitespace is removed from a prayer before it is saved to file. When you reload it, you'll notice it contains one space between words, no more.

With the release of v1.0.2.0, I'm pleased to announced the option to automatically synch files to a Dropbox directory (or other directory). I've improved the ease-of-use of the Search capability, allowing now for three search modes: normal, exact match, and search-within-files.

Version 1.0.2.1 is released. Adds context-menu to prayers textbox to allow for printing the text in its entirety, a text selection, or saving a selection to file. A couple of minor cosmetic changes. Updated the "Did You Know?" data file:

v1.0.2.3 is ready. This will be the version on which I'll build the CHM help file.  This version has a more visible icon, puts file-searching within files in a background worker thread for smoother UI, strengthens backup, and more.

I find so many of your programs cool and useful, but I never use many of them because when I want to use them is when I am away from my computer - aka mobile app.  I realize you use .Net so making Android/iPhone/iPad apps would likely not be possible, or at least a ways off, but is it possible to make them so they target Windows Phone at least as well?  I (unfortunately) do not have a windows phone, at least not yet, but I would think it might make these programs more useful to those who do.  And if you do make an iPhone app for them, I would be more than happy to test  cheesy.  Just a thought to throw out there for you....

v1.0.2.9 is an important update in that it contains a major bug-fix:

  • by popular demand, you now have the ability to select your preferred font-face, in addition to your preferred font size.
  • now, if you delete one or more prayer files using the program's Delete menu item, the program ensures that the corresponding tracking file(s) and -- if appropriate -- any backup file(s) get deleted as well.
  • Wow, found MAJOR bug in date constraint testing in my Search method. It's now been corrected. Please be  aware that, as explicitly stated in the Search Parameters explanatory text in the Search panel, any date constraint used in Searches applies to the Last Modified date on a file, not the file's creation date.

v1.0.3.4 is an important update for anyone who intends to make serious use of the program, as all Search functionality is now handled on a background thread that will not tie up the UI and make it become unresponsive. Because the files being searched are relatively small, the delay while searching a handful of files is only on the order of milliseconds, but for anyone who uses the program long-term and accumulates hundreds of files, the UI would begin to show unresponsiveness without the changes I've made. Now, you could continue to read an article or enter data into a new file while a Search is running in the background, and a messageBox will alert you when the Search completes.

Also, I eliminated a bug in the Search code.

Okay, a couple of feature requests have been fulfilled. Introducing Tagging Selection Mode toggling. Also, the "Did You Know?" tips dialog now features a Rewind and Fast-Forward button in addition to Previous and Next. A few other nice touches. The help file has been updated (press F1 to view).

v1.0.3.9 is released. It removes nonessential writing to a log-file from the search code, because it was slowing Searches down notably. Now log-writes only happen when the Debugger is attached, or if an error is thrown in the Search code.

v1.0.4.0 is released. You can now add tagged text to the Tags textbox either using Tagging Selection Mode (Ctrl-T toggles it), or the context menu within the main prayers textbox.
