Hi
When I burn a Cd With many Directories and many subfolders and files an error appears in the burning process when the paths of one or more files is more of 256 charcters (Joliet).
Nero Burning rom alerts me of this error, but when I use onother burning software this problem crash my CDs.
I think if I have a program what before burn my CDs alert me if the paths are more of 256 Chars in the paths of I wanna burn, tell me which and letme edit the paths, I don't destroy many CDs.
And tellme which files

Thanks

And pardom for my poor english :o :)

what happens when a c coder with a strong background in assembly, who has written his own custom standard c library replacement, tackles a request?  the result is a zen like study of efficiency and minimalism.

jibz just sent me his 7k drag+drop utility to perform this and report on some other nice info; it's available now on coding snacks the download page.

DropCount v1.01 is up.

Changes:
  • New icon
  • Thousands separator

Actually I am not so sure it does what was requested, but it might still be useful and/or fun :-[.

Any chance DropCount could be made to accept a path as a parameter?  By that I mean "DropCount.exe %1", e.g. "DropCount.exe C:\"  (I was hoping to create a shell extension out of it--easily achieved with a simple registry addition.)  This would also enable for a folder to be dragged-and-dropped on the DropCount shortcut itself (e.g. if that shortcut were on the Desktop).

Edit:  If version 1.03 is supposed to do this, I apologize.  I just downloaded the current copy, which is marked 1.03, but the EXE is marked 1.02 internally.

v1.03 was supposed to add this, yes. I think mouser forgot to upload the new archive when he updated the snack page :-[.

Here is DropCount v1.04, changes:
  • Locale dependent decimal separator
  • Added some tooltips

Thanks again for this app, but if i can control the long of paths to 64, 128 ,256 characters or any size?
By example if i check 128 the prog tellme what path or paths are more of that size, and letme change or edit those paths?
is one suggestion.

Hi,

very nice and useful tool. Thank you. :)

Two requests/suggestions:

  • Option to warn if filename is longer than 64 chars (maximum for joliet)
  • two positions after decimal point in KB/MB/GB... so I'd see "4,37 GB" instead of "4,3 GB".

Two decimals is a good idea, will add that in next version .

Regarding joliet format, is the 64 char limit on the filename alone without path?

Joliet:
Allow path depth of more than 8 directories
Allow more than 255 characters in path
But not all burning software allow those parameters

Regarding joliet... Sorry, I guess I told some BS.  :-[ I remember the limit used to be 64 chars with Nero. Probably they changed that. I've tested it now and the file name limit is now 102 chars, regardless of path.

Anyway... 102 is plenty, so I guess there's no extra check required. But thanks for adding two decimals. :)

love small apps! this is fantastic. :D

adding drop count to explorer context menu? right click on folder, select dropcount. would be super convenient!

in a few weeks or a month we will be releasing a new donationcoder.com app that will make it super easy to design your own context menu stuff in a super easy and super flexible fashion - it's just the thing to do what you want :)

fhoyos i was actually referring to quixos request that it be added to the explorer context menu when i mentioned the new app coming out from donationcoder.com.  it will be a kind of souped-up context menu customizer with some really cool features.  i'll post more details soon, but it's not going to be too long before this app is made available on the site, and i think you guys are really going to like it.
