Thx Josh. Gonna have to give it a try. I find I've been using Opera a lot more than FFox lately. If Opera had a feedreader add-on I actually liked it would probably replace FF as my default browser.

I'm still using all the major browsers, except for Safari as Apple seems to like to stealth install stuff...

But Opera is my #1 right now. Issues? Sure. But fewer issues than other browsers.

Lately I've been using Chrome #2 instead of FF #2... IE is my secure browser for important things, and that's not a lot, so it's #4.

But surfing with Opera 11.5 now! (Thanks Josh.) And I've updated it on my phone as well. (About time to give Opera another chance there.)

Results. Nothing matters but results...

If ad-block plus add-on goes to opera along with xmarks and few other FF add-ons then i have no other choice than to switch.

New version feels fast enough.

Although.. the new looks are going to take a while to get used to; the status bar not having the glass color anymore is especially annoying; it stands out too much right now with its whitish shine.

I don't know about passwords but for bookmarks this trick still works:

Export Firefox bookmarks as html

Import into Opera
Close Opera browser
Open Opera bookmarks.adr in a text editor

There should be a folder line underneath Trash or near the top that says
something like "Bookmarks imported from Firefox"

Delete that line and the imported bookmarks will fall into place
under the others.  I usually delete the stock ones that come with a
new install.  I use folders on the bookmarks toolbar so to get those I
have to drag & drop them onto the Personal Bar(if they still call it that)
but that only takes a few seconds.

All the free bookmark transfer programs I've tried I still have to go into
bookmarks.adr to get rid of that superfluous folder.

Periodically I use XMarks to sync from Chromium to Firefox but I don't leave it on all the time.  Too many issues with duplicates.  At least now FF has CheckPlaces and Chromium has Bookmark Sentry to get rid of the dupes.

Mention of x-marks and problems with synchronizing bookmarks made me realize that I haven't had that issue since I bought the bookmark manager Powermarks back in (gulp) 1997.  Several years ago, Powermarks gave up the ghost and I moved to Linkman, which is even better (and which will import bookmarks from Powermarks and just about anywhere else).  With Linkman, all my bookmarks are in one place, and no matter which browser I use, I can access my bookmarks, add bookmarks, etc.  I know there must be some reason that people who use multiple browsers save their bookmarks in each one rather than in a program like Linkman, but I honestly don't know what that reason is.  I hope I'm not sounding smug and self-righteous--I don't mean my remarks that way.  I'm just puzzled--and in love with Linkman.  :-*

Does it let you use your own ftp site or do you have to use their server?

I did have an issue today where I had to kill Opera. Then again, I had an obscene number of tabs open.

The scaling is nice though. I like the new slider.

One weird thing... I had Opera Mobile on my phone, and have updated it, and installed Opera Mini... Huh?  Seems odd... I'm not sure what the difference is, but I'll look into it.

Pretty light on features, but that probably makes it the most stable Opera x.5 build in recent years. The new skin could use some work, though, it still has a few niggles here and there.

Opera mini compresses the website (and images) server side - hence is much more data usage friendly (and speeds it up in some cases). Also, it appears (my own personal experience, no other evidence) to be less memory hungry than Opera Mobile as well.

@Ren- According to the Opera website: Opera Mini is the same as Opera Mobile minus Opera's own rendering engine and support for Adobe Flash and HTML5.

Those 'omissions' seem to be because Apple won't allow Flash; or any rendering engine other than their own in a browser if it's going on an iPad/Phone.

I'm guessing Opera decided to differentiate because they wanted it to be known their mobile browser's limitations were due to having arbitrary limits put on it by Apple. In short, if it's on Apple, you're not getting the full Opera experience.

That said, this new Mobile version (I'm using it right now) is still significantly faster, and feels more 'solid', than the latest Safari. And +1 w/capitalH. It does seem to have a smaller memory footprint than previously.

It's just a better browser than Safari. No surprise there.  ;D

One thing that bugs me is every time I update I have to clean off those lame bookmarks I don't want. It should only stick bookmarks in if install detectd zero bookmarks or first install.

Don't know if that happens to you, but until recently, i'd get not just those "lame bookmarks" that MilesAhead spoke of, but also a whole slew of duplicates (sync online process). With latest versions, the sync process seems to have improved.

Wonder why Opera installs those "lame bookmarks"?
Are they getting money for this publicity?

Well, I've been using Opera Mobile lately on my phone, and it does seem zippier than the native browser, though when using the "Share" function, which links to a native API, it is slightly slower than the native browser. Still, I think I may be sticking with it from here on.

Not sure but I did notice I was able to right click on all the folders in Bookmarks Bar and then Show On Bookmarks Bar.  Should have saved me time except the order was reversed. I still had to play around dragging them into the correct order. (edit: Sort Descending under View Menu then clicking Show On Bookmarks Bar I only had to move the bookmarklet. That's much easier.)

Where Opera still has the edge is auto wrap bookmarks bar.  All these years and no other browser I've seen can duplicate it.  Firefox can fake it via css settings.  But as soon as you resize the window you lose the scrollbars. Opera does it correctly out of the box.

My issues to move back to opera (using vimperopera);

1- Scroll is damn abrupt. Is there any way to change the scroll step when pressing arrow down?
Anything like yet another smooth scroll out there, but for opera?

2- gmail shortcuts don't work

3- google search box steals focus, and the userjs in the vimperopera page did not work for me

4- would like to have a kb shortcut to bookmark things on diigo...

@MilesAhead - pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is this "auto-wrapping" of bookmarks?

@urlwolf - "kb" shortcut for Diigo?

I only have my grade 12 diploma.

keyboard shortcut for diigo. The FF extension fully integrates with your bookmarks. I hate having to click a tiny icon to bookmark something.

Goccha! Diigolet isn't that bad!
Of course, Firefox was their first baby so it's hard for them to replicate their toolbar for every other browser (though they seem to be courting G Chrome quite a bit lately).

btw, i've also got a diploma in philosophy; not sure what that's worth these days.

If you resize the window(make it narrower) the bookmarks bar will make more rows to fit them all on instead of using '>>' at the right end to show there are more.

Okay!

Seems like Opera and Firefox are on a downfall...

Plus every damn time I update Opera it sets itself as my default browser. Don’t like that.

Nor I . . .  reminds me, I need to go set Opera as my default browser.
