URLSnooper doesn't work for me.
« on: February 25, 2006, 09:22 AM »
hello guys,
could anyone please help me how to make urlsnooper work?
i installed and was able to run for a while. i don't know what happened, but when i try to double click urlsnooper2 shortcut, then i get the below message
"This application has failed to start because WanPacket.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
When i tried to install it again, then i'm not able to install winpcap3.1.I'm getting the below message
"winpcap3.1 is already installed on this machine. the installation will be aborted" message box.
Could anyone please help me how to resolve this problem.
Many thnx in advance.
Sarath

if it worked before and doesnt work now, and you haven't changed any network hardware, then perhaps some other program did something bad.  you could try this:
1) reboot, see if it works.
2) if it still doesnt work, uninstall winpcap from add/remove control panel, then reboot, then reinstall, then reboot.

let us know if this gets it working.

Hi Mouser,
I did the same, but still its not working. Ya i installed "no adware" software, and it found winpcap as adware, unknowingly i deleted. As urlsnooper didn't work, i reinstalled it again, later i couldn't make urlsnooper work and it was giving this error.so i uninstalled "no adware" program, thinking that it might 've locked any of the dlls of winpcap, but of no use. please could anyone help me, i'm desperately in need of urlsnooper now.
Many thnx in advance.
Sarath.

I googled around a bit and found a support discussion that might be usefull

http://www.winpcap.o...005-July/000163.html

This is the site that of winpcap, that mouser bundles with urlsnooper with btw.
http://www.winpcap.org/

Their support stuff is on their contact page http://www.winpcap.org/contact.htm

Other than that all i can say  is make sure you do an absolute clean install.
Remember that in the windows add/remove control panel Urlsnooper AND winpcap are given separate entries.

Make sure the folders are deleted in the program folder.

Your no adware software might be trying to act as some sort of firewall too,i know sunbelt's anti-spyware tries
to be about a half a dozen applications in one, alot of security programs are going this route which is a shame.

P.S.
On a security sidenote, don't worry about winpcap or urlsnooper,it's clean.
I use urlsnooper all the time.Microsoft's Anti-Spyware program(or defender or whatever they call it now)once gave me a false positive on winpcap, and that's exactly what is was a false positive.

if you dont get it sorted in a couple of days make another post and ill try to install "no aware" and url snooper in a virtual machine, and watch what it actually removes to see if i can't figure out why a reinstall doesn't fix it..
but it's hard to see what it could remove that wouldn't be fixed with a reinstall of winpcap..

that error happens when the file isn't fully downloaded -- try downloading again, perhaps using a different browser.
