DAY 19:

The video shows how to use and configure the built-in mini-toolbar in FARR:

The entire screencast video series can be seen here: https://www.donationcoder.com/3ds/

Wow, what an incredible program FARR is, it just keeps on getting better and better. Did you ever consider creating your own OS? Just imagine an OS as customizable as FARR with all those tricks up its sleave... *dreaming away.....*

Thanks again!

Can you spell "smug"?  ;D

You're doing a great job here.
There's a lot of time, effort, and thought represented by this series.

Thank you very much!

Here's another tip for making screencasts, that i have to keep reminding myself.

If you're recording a screencast that may last more than a couple minutes, make sure to pause every once in a while between demonstrating concepts, saying and doing nothing.

That gives you an edit point if you need to cut out some material or splice in new stuff, or overdub some audio.  Without the pauses you'll find no good way to edit stuff without having to jump into the middle of sentences, etc.

And here's a tip for viewing the screen casts for once.

When viewing one of mouser's screen casts, make sure you move your mouse pointer somewhere where you can't see it. Otherwise, you could come to the conclusion that there's either something wrong with your system or that you're drunk. ;)

I was always wondering when you said that something would be going to be demonstrated in a later screen cast ... :)

More real advantage of doing multiple short screencasts:
  • less trouble for people on slow connections
  • easier to replace one small screencast if you change a feature

You could also have some bright red image open, but minimized, everytime you make an error, you maximize it for a moment and minimize it again so you can easily find those moment while editing.

So what screencasting capture and editing programs are you using?

(I appologise in advance if this is already answered deep within the thread. IMHO, this "How I did it" info should be included in the lead post.)

and Thanks for the edjukayshunel videos!

These have been created with TechSmith's Camtasia, a very good, if expensive, commercial tool.

The truth is however that for these Screencasts, i don't really use any of the advanced features of Camtasia, and could have produced these just as well with some of the free tools I think.

In particular, since I don't do any editing, I think BB Flashback Express (free) would be just as good -- and I have used that in the past, and may use it for some of the upcoming screencasts.

;D I love it when you explain the Ctrl+Alt+# thing, "ok, I don't know what this does... ok, so that's not really useful" Makes me wonder how many features of FARR you yourself discover while making these excellent screencasts...? ;)

btw, I really love these screencasts. They're very well made, IMO, and I've certainly learned a bit! Thanks!

Yeah, at ~$300, Camtasia Studio is a bit pricey for "hobby" screencasting. I have played around with BB Express some and was quite impressed with the features and quality - I thought you may have been using that...

Thanks again!
