This very cool google map mod was installed on the DonationCoder forum today with a few custom tweaks. It's a really fun way to see where everyone comes from: But it only works if people participate and mark their location in the forum profile, so please do!

Mouser, you lie, you are not from zimbabwe! We all know you live online so you should be all over the map!

dunno if it's me, or if this is getting a caning from users, but it's pretty patchy here
after discovering there is another town of the same name somewhere in the UK, I managed to place my pin correctly, but the map just doesn't display anything of value - the move arrows don't, zooming on a location loses any/all pins, clicking on a my location and the 'flag' displays out of the window so I can't see it, clicking through everyones location momentarily flashes a map that may or may not have been their actual location before returning to some nominal (random?) location
anyone else experiencing this?

good point!!
I'm using GreenBrowser (an IE shell), but it does the same in IE (which is, i suppose, to be expected).
Clicking on a member name takes me to the map, then flicks me off to some point else, eg clicking on Phil Whites link centres on his location, then zings off to somewhere southwest of new zealand
It works as expected in Firefox (2.X) though
and I'd like to second that thankyou!! it's a great way to see where everyone is (at least everyone that participates that is...)

oh wow its COMPLETELY broken in IE. ok ill try to see if i've done something wrong with my modifications. either that or there is a problem with the embedding of the map in IE.

According to the map I am over in Cherry Blossom Land, having a picnic. (ignore the fact it's still dark outside, and it's not spring) Very cool forum feature!

I'm there also! And we're already 49! The green markers are a very nice touch, allows you to see the time fuses in action edit: and I've just noticed that 4wd is already up at 7:41am!

Grorgy: you do realize you can zoom in the map while placing the pin?

I tried that f0dder, I got a bit closer in but at that time I couldn't get close enough to be accurate, which surprised me since i saw some people (app for instance) were living in parks lol. I'm close will have a look again later.

Hm, sounds weird - perhaps a buggy browser? With FireFox3 at least it worked pretty well. I didn't zoom further in than city level, though... that's enough info

Ahhh when i tried this time it was already zoomed, so I fixed it up, possibly the zoom was just taking too long and I clicked away before it had a chance. (I was only out by about 40 miles lol)

According to my first attempt I had been cast adrift on the South Atlantic. Later I was marooned on Greenland. Now I'm somewhat closer to home.
