just a quick announcemet for our new comic strip website. as you'll see, the characters are probably related to Cody, or are his friends, at least. who knows, maybe Cody will make an appearance.

the work is a collaboration between me and another DC member, timns.

there are plenty of strips lined up and ready to go, updates will be on mondays and thursdays. the website itself is not 100% finished but it's close enough for the moment (there's plenty of stuff that needs cleaning or tweaking underneath it all).

i hope you have time to have a look and become a regular reader. there's the usual RSS and email subscriptions services available.

First of all, this is one of the most elegant and professional looking designs i've seen, anywhere.  The top banner especially.
Second of all, I'm blown away by the style and content of the stuff you (and timns) are creating (anyone who hasn't gone and checked out the Codex Transportica site needs to do so immediately).

You guys are making a good team -- you need to open up a business now where you do mascot creation / website design, etc.  I think you could offer a unique set of skills to companies looking to build a compelling web site.

Lastly I have to say it brings a smile to my face to know you guys met here on DonationCoder smiley

By the way, tim has been doing great writing for Codex Transportica -- really enjoying how well it captures the time and place.  Great work tim!

thanks very much for saying so. and yes it is also all down to DC that we teamed up (and a bit of match making from mouser), what a wonderful thing DC is.

and i'd also like to thank Tim here for helping out with the Transportica. he stepped in at a crucial moment and has done more than i could ever have hoped for.

Dang, you guys sure are artistic.  I'm jealous of your websites!  I love those pencil sketches, I have a thing for pencil sketches.  All I can do is copy people's ideas for websites.  Boo!

By the way, I also copied nudone's avatar thing, where it looks like the head's coming out of the box.  I'm shameless!

Thank you one and all. What can I say except that nudone is the powerhouse of the team... I just crank out something that I hope is a good gag and let him run with it.

Very happy we teamed up: thanks mouser, and yay for nudone.

Very funny comics. Look forward to more of them smiley

Like the website layout and style too. Logical and professional (minus the comics Grin).

Great job guys! The comics are pretty funny and the site looks good.

Constructive Criticism:

In Firefox 3 there's a big gap between the top of the page and the logo banner. Adblock Plus says it blocked 2 items, so if there's supposed to be an ad banner up there, that would explain it.

Also, the navigation links (Home, Archive, Downloads, About, Contact) appear pixelated, like they were created at a smaller size and then enlarged. Even the title "Head in the Clouds" looks a little pixelated, but the navigation links are very noticeable.

Here's a screenshot of how it looks on my computer.

Good job nudone and timns! You're really doing something great!

thanks for the constructive criticism. there should be adsense banners where your ad blocker is taking them out. i'll put something there to indicate they have been removed - or maybe get the top to close if nothing is there.

the navigation links are actually exactly how they are meant to be. but now you've mentioned it i will try to smooth them out. it's not that they've been enlarged or compressed - it's simply the font being extremely fine and what i did to it. i will see what can be done to even out the pixel edges without making it too thick.

very helpful comments though. anything else that looks odd, please let me know.

BTW did anyone spot nudone's terrible visual pun with his choice of wallpaper for the site?

in the interest of getting the page design perfect, i'll point out two very minor issues:

good points. not already gone unnoticed by myself during the design stage.

but the areas you point out at each side of the navigation are deliberate - i call them 'details'. i suppose they don't actually add anything to the design though so they could be removed. they were simply there to 'break' up that rectangle a little bit, i.e. it would have been easier for them not to be there.

the bottom column gap - also deliberate although frowned upon by many no doubt. there are meant to be several more banners down that left column that would force the gap to close automatically. but, as it might take a while for the other banners to appear i suppose i could close the gap anyway.

good observations, but not necessarily ones that i'll rush to change.

One of those links at the bottom left will, of course, be DC smiley

i'll admit, it wasn't a deliberate joke. Tim saw the connection and assumed i was being clever.

Argh smiley You need to watch out, throwing puns like that about when we're nearby... or we'll eagle-y seize upon them and use them in the strip.
