Anyone who has frequented the DonationCoder.com forum for a while knows that DC member Skrommel is just about single-handedly responsible for the success of the Coding Snacks section of the site. His contributions here are immeasurable, and yet Skrommel is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, and normal methods of saying thanks simply are not appropriate. So the question is.. how do we as a community say thank you to Skrommel in an appropriate way?

How do you solve a problem like Skrommel? How do you catch a cloud and pin it down? How do you find a word that means Skrommel? A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell him Many a thing He ought to understand But how do you make him stay And listen to all you say How do you keep a wave upon the sand
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Skrommel? How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?

Create a Skrommel appreciation page here, and encourage everyone who appreciates Skrommel's efforts to subscribe to it in some way? That way, Skrommel could see just how much appreciation exists.

Maybe pay for his transportation to the Scandinavian gathering? Norway does have quite long distances, as the lenght of a stretched Norway matches the hight of the rest of western Europe!

1) Send him real snacks!
2) Make him a "candygram" using Alphabet Cereal shaped into some code.

I thought about this, and remembered something about my own software, that in a way really bothers me about the whole idea of freeware/donationware and the attitudes of most software users when it comes to making a donation...
If I had $1 for every time someone downloaded one of my applications, I wouldn't have a worry in this world when it came to being able to pay my bills.
If skrommel had $1 for each time someone downloaded one of his apps, he would be richer than Bill Gates!
While we can't possibly all make up for the non-donated $1's, we can all donate a $1 now, and let him know how we feel about his hard work. A dollar isn't a lot...we can all afford that, and the message of appreciation that goes with it increases it's value, dramatically.
I know not everyone will donate, but if every member of this forum did, he would have a gift of $114,272.00 (at the time of this post), and that is no small change.
It would more than enough to pay for his transportation to the Scandinavian gathering...and singing nuns...and enough chocolate Cody coins to make him sick.
So let's bomb him with dollars and tell him how we feel! (my $1 and my message has been sent, your turn now)

Skrommel doesn't seem very interested in money.. He has several hundreds of dollars of credits built up that he shows very little interest in. That's one of the reasons I think we need to figure out something non-monetary and special to get him.
However, I like the idea of paying for his transport to a DC gathering, so let's definitely say that anytime skrommel is willing to attend a DC gathering, DC should foot the airfare bill.
