hamradio, I have always loved Flexible Renamer since v.7.3, and that's over three years ago, but it has long been abandoned — at least it hasn't been touched since 2003. Abandoned?... NOT... Flexible Renamer v8.0 is out. Lots of new features and improvements.

From the message linked by Abterix: After many years, Bulk Rename Utility is retiring. It has run its course and is now a reasonably stable product. There may be one more release, to tidy up some loose ends, but that is not confirmed. I WILL be continuing to support it though. Thanks to everyone for the support and suggestions over the years. Thanks to Jim for his hard work on BRU.

For anyone who doesn't frequent the forum, I announced a few weeks ago that Bulk Rename Utility had reached the end of its development lifecyle, and that the current release would be the final release. This news item confirms that statement.
Support will continue to be available for the product until the end of 2008.

Having finally tried it, I was not able to send my message to the coder, error message below: My message: Hi, someone over at http://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php likes your program, so I just tried it for the first time. I like it, and I found two bugs: 1) in the list of files, you can't type "www" quickly to jump to the first file named "www..." - instead you just move to the next file starting with "w..." every time you press the key 2) in the list of files, when you press the menu key on your keyboard, the context menu doesn't show up (should be the same function as clicking it with the right mouse button) I'd like to see this fixed in the future, thanks! If anyone would like to send it to him on my behalf, please do and post here that you did!Error message: Contact INCOMPLETE
Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Unfortunately your email has NOT been sent.

AFAIK, it’s back in business but has been sold to TGRMN Software. There waS some kerfluffle about this transtition last fall because there is a sliver of advertising for Vice Versa Pro at the bottom of the GUI. I just installed this version on my Vista 64 machine and it's OK. I did make a couple of donations when this was freeware, though, and wish that there were some way to turn it off (though it's really not that bad).
Anyway, the point is that it IS worth contacting the developer - I'll send it in along, if you like?

OK - I couldnt' get it to post, either and no longer have Jim's direct e-mail address to hand. brotherS, why not post your suggestion/request in the BRU users forum - Jim was active there as recently as yesterday: http://www.bulkrenameutil...d1f355ee342d496966e3a3731That link should take you to the suggestions board.

Just to point to the thread on the BRU boards announcing that BRU is no longer being retired and that development will continue: http://www.bulkrenameutil...ewtopic.php?f=5&t=524Also, here is a thread about the ViceVersa ad I mentioned above: http://www.bulkrenameutil...ewtopic.php?f=5&t=564The next release should allow users to get rid of it... Note that the new owner of Bulk Rename Utility is TGRMN.

I don't know why other people comes to DC, but I come here to build up my vocabulary! Noun: kerfuffle1. A disorderly outburst or tumult synonyms: commotion, disruption, disturbance, flutter, hoo-ha, hoo-hah, hurly burly, to-do [WordWeb.info] Thanks, Mike, for giving me yet another chance to use my dictionaries!

Thanks, Mike, for giving me yet another chance to use my dictionaries! Sorry, everyone, for someone involved in ESL (English as a Second Language) education for 15 years, I'm still REALLY Anglo-centric (English language centric I mean...)

I found it quite intuitive to use, never checked if there even IS a manual. Btw, zero replies to my bug posts there after 3 weeks...

Hmmmmmmm I've used that for years. FreeCommander has some renaming capacity now but it's not as vast as BRU.

This review needs updating. SUPERB piece of software! Bulk renames those files that other file renamers cannot rename.
