General Software Discussion / Re: recommendation: sabayon linux
« on: January 09, 2010, 10:16 AM »
How many times were you told to RTFM, "fix it, you have the source", or were otherwise mocked? :)

(My experiences with linux IRC rooms have been less-than-stellar; but I guess it might help to join freenode/whatever linux channels and not EFNet :))

My experience with linux channels was simply people pretending I was invisible. For hours. Even asking smart questions in a smart way.

My experience with Ubuntu/LinuxMint on my netbook.
 • Everything worked out-of-the-box
 • Mixxx crashed my computer. Every time. Back to Windows.

Finished Programs / Re: ZIP to PHP converter
« on: January 05, 2010, 09:10 PM »
Any chance you can do this with exe too? :P Just kidding.

Again, awesome utility here.

EXE: use your favourite archiver. WinRAR, WinZIP, WinACE, 7Zip all do SFXs
As soon as I get ASP to work there will be an ASP version (will prolly involve two files instead of one tho)

Er.. What I meant was EXE2PHP. So I could execute an executable on a server via PHP. But like I said it was a joke. ;)
Ever heard of system()?

This is a very cool idea! Can it cope with tarballs (.tar or .tar.gz) as well?

Not yet, mebbe I should add it.

you, sir, are awesome.
this is simply ingenious.

Thanks.

But what's the point?

Are there hosts which allow you to run PHP scripts but don't give FTP access? And don't allow .zip files from web-based upload forms? O_o

The problem is not uploading the zips, but unzipping them server-side.
Uploading a crapload of small files takes ages over FTP.

This is a small application that converts a ZIP file into a self-extracting PHP file. Simply upload it to your webserver, call it once, then delete it.

I want to make BigTimer FOSS. But please advice me on license specifics. Do I need to use some special license to include the (adapted) files above with BigTimer? I have made an icon from the image file and that icon is compiled into the BigTimer exe. I also include some separate files in the zip: an .icl file with two adapted icons (one for each mode) and a .png of the image and a .wav of the audio. Those are used by BigTimer.exe .

I think you'd have to release it under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0, which is the most restrictive of all licences used, but IANAL.

 • A joystick/joypad

Description
Yup! I did it again! I managed to totally screw my NANY release and am putting up a different app.
This is a small autohotkey app that lets you map your typical 10-button joypad (think dualshock clone) to keyboard keys.
Nothing too fancy, but if you open the thing up you'll see it's pretty easy to solder buttons.
I used to use this when doing kiosks (is far easier than mapping a keyboard).

Features
Maps joystick buttons to keyboard presses.

Planned Features
A GUI, a non-fixed number of buttons.

Screenshots
No UI, so no screenies :(

Usage
Installation
Edit the ini in your favourite text editor, run the exe.

Using the Application
Press buttons on your joystick, see the magic happen

Uninstallation
Format your hard drive, or delete the exe and ini files.

Known Issues
A maximum of 10 buttons are supported.

hey, thanks for this.  I went another route and just use Survey Block to do it for me since the method you posted rips ALL javascript, and really I only need the surveys disabled :)

Dear Spammer:

What the hell? Can you please explain why typing javascript:closeeverything();void 0; rips ALL Javascript? That's impossible.
Thanks for wasting our time.

Love,
scannie

Oh also I found an interesting view on bookmarklets and I would have to agree with its author. There is definitely a possibility of malicious bookmarklets and they must be viewed like any other software you install. Can you trust it? http://www.hunlock.com/blogs/Bookmarklets_--_The_Evil_Lurking_In_Your_Browser

Nice link!
You might liek to take a look to the JS Beautifiers, they even unpack packed/"protected" scripts.

What would your ideal workflow be?

I love how the app presents the files!

good for you scancode -- but this sounds like something that could easily reach above and beyond a coding snack to me!
As we talked about on IRC, that's the idea :)

And to release something.

"Win32.Gen/DOCOVIR/PACK has been detected as a threat. Avast is 35% certain that this is a genuine security threat."

Then "detects 100% of on-the-wild threats" becomes "detects 100% of what it thinks could be on-the-wild threats".
Doesn't look good on product pages :)

doesn't seem to work for me or i dont know how to use it.. i selected the entire text, pasted it onto my link toolbar in firefox.  when i click it nothing happens.
