@Mouser: Wise idea not to develop just another skinning system. This one seems to be sufficiently capable.
Although it doesn't skin tables, which is a pity since a table is one of the most visible controls in Find and Run Robot.

Skins I like: 15, 26, 39, 44, 66 (though I will probably not use any of them as I prefer FARR unskinned).

What are the licences on the other skins, can we remix them?

Those skins seem to be the example skins from link rank. I wouldn't change them without asking those guys.

What skinning format is it that you are using. The skn files don't seem to be normal zip-files.
Is it possible to create custom skins?
I noticed that the preferences aren't skinned. That looks a bit strange when the rest is fully skinned.

Yes, it's fixed. Thanks!

Find And Run Robot / Re: Version 1.06.01 released

Working directory (start in directory) of shortcuts was not being respected.
Yes, thanks.

Last version was improperly focusing results window on startup.
That was fast. Work, too.

Find And Run Robot / Bug: Focus on list instead of input on first start
« on: September 05, 2005, 11:28 AM »
Hi!

I think this changed one of the last betas. When I bring up F&R the first time after starting Windows the focus is inside the list and not the input field.
So I cannot just start typing. I have either to click inside the field or close it and bring it up again.
Also I think that when I start typing while the focus is in the list and I'm not typing one of the shortcut numbers, the field should get the focus automatically and all I type in should go there.

Cheers,
  Robert

Cool, Firefox bookmark search would be nice.

Find And Run Robot / Re: F&R fans get an update

I don't think the database size is really a problem. F&R doesn't search inside the files. Only file names are searched. So even if you have a database of 1000 file names with each filename having no more than 100 characters. Thats 1600000 bytes or1.5 MB  in Unicode. Add some database metadata and it won't be bigger than 2 or maybe 3 MB.
I think this could be an option. I don't need it since I only use F&R to find programs and use a 3.4 GHz computer, but users with slower computers or with a bigger amount of files to be searched may need this badly.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work in .24.
There is a simple test for this.
Create a batch testWorkdir.bat somewhere with the following contents:
  dir
  pause

Now create a link to it in your programs folder or somewhere where F&R will find it.
Set the working dir of the link to point to the directory containing the batch file.
Run the link. Now you'll see the directory listing of the specified directory.
Find and Run it in F&R. Now you'll see the directory listing of the directory containing the link.

Cheers,
  Robert

You forgot to change the version number in the about box. It's still .22.
I think the .19 version used the Windows XP Luna buttons etc. Now it all looks like Win 2000. Have you forgotten to add the manifest file or something like that. I don't want skinning in F&R, but it should at least look like the rest of the system.

General Software Discussion / Re: Google Talk
« on: August 25, 2005, 08:49 AM »
I read somewhere, but could not confirm that Gmail is now open to the public.
Doesn't look like this to me. There is no "create account" button or something like that on http://www.gmail.com . Anyways I have 50 invitations left. Just PM me your e-mail-adress and you'll in.

Yeah, looks good. No bloat. Minimalistic, just comunication without file sharing and the other crap.
Do you need a gmail invitation? I have a whole bunch left.

Find And Run Robot / Bug: No focus after Alt-Space
« on: August 15, 2005, 04:10 PM »
Hi!

I have used AppRocket and Launchy in the past, which seem to be either dead or nearly dead now. Those launchers are similar to Find & Run. They used "Alt-Space" as the hotkey to bring them up. So it happens sometimes that I press Alt-Space instead of Break to bring up Find & Run. If no other application takes this shortcut, the system menu of the current application is shown. When I now press ESC to get rid of the menu and then Break Find&Run comes up with the cursor inside the text field but when I type nothing appears inside the text field. I then have to press Break twice once to hide it and once to bring it up again. Then it works as expected.
I don't have to press ESC to produce this behaviour. Even when I press Break while the system menu is showing, I get the same behaviour.

No, the working directory is the same as the installation directory.
Don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm running a german  Windows XP here.
The target of the link is "f:\pc-bib\PC_BIB2.EXE" and the "execute in" is "f:\pc-bib\".
Don't know of any other application that doesn't work if it isn't started in its working directory. Normally applications get around this themselves.

65
1.05.19 is what I'm using here.
I installed it over 1.05.12 which I downloaded earlier today. Maybe something went wrong with the update.
Are there any caches kept that would need to be updated?

66
Hi!

I have an application which needs to be run inside its installation directory.
The link which is available in the start menu correctly sets the working directory.
When I start the link through Find & Run, this information seems to get lost.

Could it be that Find & Run starts the linked application and not the link itself? What happens if the link also specifys command line arguments?

67
1) I'm always using the detailed mode. I think I find faster what I want to start in this mode than in the icon mode
2) Having 1 GB of RAM I don't really care if it eats 1 or 2 MB. For speed I care though.

I think cracksloth is right.
You would have to click into it if it were integrated into the taskbar.
I think pressing break and starting to type is really fast.
BTW: As long as you don't want to start anything new, Find & Run is of no interest to you. There is no point in having it permanently visible.

69
the command behavior you suggest is definitely being added.
Nice !
i am definitely hearing you guys who don't want added stuff on the interface - if we add a toolbar of custom buttons it will be optional.
OK ;) If I can put it off I'm happy.

Find And Run Robot / Searching in Mozilla Firefox bookmarks
« on: August 15, 2005, 09:26 AM »
Hi!
I'd like Find & Run to search inside Firefox bookmarks.
The bookmarks in Firefox can be found in a file bookmarks.html. The format is rather simple. So you'd need to parse it for a search. You don't need to find the current profile. It would be totally OK to ask the user to select the bookmarks.html files he wants to be part of the search.

72
I wouldn't do this.
There is no need for a toolbar of selected applications.
I'm using Find & Run because I'm tired of all those toolbar apps. They are just too slow.
I'd like to see special text shortcuts to start special actions like triggering searches. "g Find +Run" for example could start a google earch for "Find +Run".
It would break the general philosophy of Find & Run to have to click on buttons for some actions.
