N.A.N.Y. 2010 / Re: NANY 2010 - Mini NANY Submissions

@Perry Mowbray: I made a few years ago a cryptor/decryptor of such texts for a coding-contest. You can decode the whole bible in only a few seconds with it with very good results - a lot of languages and slangs are supported :D. If you have enough memory you can even calculate new words and grammatical variants that can be used for decoding. It is called the Salatschleuder. I improved it after the contest. So download the final version here if you like.  ;)

Living Room / Re: Any old Amiga users among us?
« on: December 08, 2009, 08:55 AM »
Oh, I missed this important thread from 2007  ;D
I also jumped from the C64 to the Amiga and had a lot of fun there as Democoder. The Amiga was the best multitasking-OS with windows and hi-color graphics for a long time. They were with the system itself lightyears away from competitors - but they forgot to step along with the hardware fast enough. My good old Amiga R.I.P.  :(

It´s not necessary to create new levels for Boulderdash - it has been hacked and extended in 100 versions. Paradroid with new levels would be cool. I don´t think too much people will bother around with this but it´s a cool idea to do something like this.

This is really cool, but is there a game coming up with more than only one galaxy? In our universe are at least 100.000.000.000 galaxies.

Damocles was the follower and 4th part of the Mercenary Trilogy. This game was also great!

I have too less time to make a game right in time. But I plan a little game. I bought a few weeks ago Robot Maker and it would be funny to convert this very addictive game to a 3D-game. Do you really prefer to see a game as a NANY entry - not my DocMerger project?
I´m still working sometimes on my 3D-Engine. At the moment it doesn´t supports bone-animations - so all looks very static.
Here are some pictures, but don´t think I made the first one today (can you find my beloved dog I lost 2 months ago?)... I did the X-Cat-model 1 month ago without knowing that I´d show it to you  ;D

I´m now a proud owner of the full Game Programming Gems Series and some other interesting things like Game Programming AI by Example or Physics for Game Developers. It´s so much material that I can´t work through within the next year.

Not very easy to do... what´s if the destionation folder is far away on another drive (20 Dirs up and on the next drive 20 Dirs down)? Your way is only interesting, if the destination folders are directly around the files you want to move - I see this as a very special case. So you perhaps will move them more around as necessary. Have you ever tried to place 50 or 100 Names around one in the centre? The navigation would be more complicate than working with two explorers.

141
Wouldn´t it be better to look for the last used folders than creating a mindmap-like environment where you never can be sure that the position of your folders are the same? I personally don´t like mindmaps - they´re more confusing than helping at fileworks or managing textual structures. MMs are only useful for collecting a huge bulk of text without taking care of finding particular ones very fast.

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / NANY 2010 WITHDRAWN: Crush DocMerger
« on: November 07, 2009, 03:10 PM »
Ok, here´s my first idea. What about a multiple text-mixer, not only looking for differenz existances of single lines - it can also take care of existing blocks with extension by some rules.
Example: You have a file that contains all your registrered keys - after some time you started a new file or made a copy of the old one with changes. Later on you have 10 files containing all your keys spreaded at different places. Now you want to merge them without losing a key. All doubled blocks should be eliminated and repeating blocks with differences shall be composed to a block containing a mixture of both.
It´s not as easy as it sound - especially implementing some kind of "rules" that are signing block as lines with "-------------" or doubled newlines but I think this could be rather useful for different things.
If you have any suggestions what other useful functions could be implemented, tell me. I´m starting it now.

Developer's Corner / Re: What's your Programming Language?
« on: November 05, 2009, 06:45 AM »
I´m a C++ only fan. I don´t like all others (perhaps Java and C# are quite good) - but use them when I have to work on projects demanding them.

General Software Discussion / Re: 3ds Max...very nice program

Realsoft3D V4 and Truespace V7.6 are also quite cool free programs. It´s worth to mention that both are longer in development than 3DSMAX! I Personally prefer Truespace for fast animations and designing, but there are some very special Features in Realsoft3D and its high-quality-renderer is one of the best I´ve ever seen.
This is made with Realsoft3D 4 years ago (in only 5 minutes):

Living Room / Re: Best Free and Pay FTP Client
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:22 PM »
Right, the main question was a client - not a server. A lot of file-copiers support ftp-access like Directory Opus - it´s working fine and is rather flexible for its job. Sometimes I use Filezilla.

146
I personally like the freeware Mediacoder. This Converter allows you to manipulate really every codec-feature and supports even GPU-encoding with CUDA. This means your graphic-card is used to code & encode the videos if you like - that´s much faster than normal encoding.

147
I have an idea for a new NANY project... I hope I´ll have enough time to make it.

I thank you all for your solicitousness!

Even one week after that bad day I have very hard feelings several times a day and dark thoughts. Every thing and place that recalls my dog is hurting. It helped a little bit that I collected all of Cliffs pictures and movies in a digital photoframe that´s always in sight and to visit his grave every day. I never could imagine that I can get so brutal sad after losing my dog.

DC Gamer Club / Re: Tales of Monkey Island (Episode 1) - for free
« on: September 19, 2009, 05:20 AM »
But I´ve seen a video showing a feature to switch with a hotkey during the game between pictures from the original version and the new version. The locations were exactly the same and the story also. There seems to be a new plot but the old one´s also integrated.

Telltale does a good job and I´m sure this monkey-island remake also will be great.
