Find And Run Robot / Farr vs DiRT series

Recently Codemasters made the transition from GfWL^w to Steamworks and in the process, upgraded DiRT 3 to DiRT 3 Complete Edition.



On hearing this, i rubbed my hands in glee because I could finally play the game I bought 2+ years ago (note: GfWL is not supported in my region therefore I could not save my progress). However there was one more obstacle in my way. Curiously DiRT refuses to start if Farr is running in the background!

This perplexed me at first but a quick search shows this to be a known issue, as can be seen from posts here and here. Hence I wrote this AHK script which works as a middleman by closing Farr before running DiRT and relaunching Farr after you're done with DiRT.

To use it, just unzip and run the "Dirt_3_CE_Launcher (DoCo).ahk" instead of launching DiRT 3 from Steam directly. That's all to it and the script was not extensively tested so caveats apply. Hopefully you'd find it handy.

in the recent update (v4.8.7 Beta), mouser added the Tools menu to SC's system tray menu. the ability to use external tools from within SC is one of the advantage that I very much like. so I was wondering what other tools out there that can complement or enhance your SC experience.

i'll start with my own SC tools menu, it's quite self-explanatory and it helps a lot with my workflow. though mouser has graciously implemented many of my requests to make things even smoother!

Screenshot Captor / Command-line option starts a new instance of SC

i have a shortcut on my desktop with the following command, "<path>\ScreenshotCaptor.exe -scan". whenever i click this shortcut to initiate a scan, SC gets launched in a new instance and only then the scan command is carried out. in the end, i end up with two SC icons in the system tray. is there a setting to avoid this? thanks!

Hardkernel, the people behind ODROID series have come up with "ODROID-U3 Community Edition" which is the same as the normal U3 but with the following clauses: "$59 is special price only for this community edition for personal use outside Korea. And the maximum order quantity is limited to one unit for one person".

This is one of the few single-board computers that I found enticing due its power-packed features. Among others it comes with a Samsung Exynos quad-core processor (same as a Samsung Galaxy 3 iirc) and 2gb of ram plus ethernet slot and 3 usb ports (not usb 3.0 though).

Living Room / Why my Win7 suddenly goes amnesiac?

I am running Win 7 Pro 64-bit with an admin level account. At times I would drag a url shortcut from the desktop on to the browser window but the action would fail silently, causing much frustration. I have to exit the browser and relaunch in admin mode for the drag-n-drop to be successful. the same goes if i am trying to interact between an explorer window and totalcmd window.

my uac setting is at default so why do the apps lapse into non-admin mode? does anyone else experience this situation?
